@ Shashank, I presume you have a new RE Standard 350cc. this comes with the short bent pipe. Which means you could go for the "long neck short bottle" to match the length of the whole silencer. And if your bike is relatively new, stick to the OEM silencer for the time being, say at least for around 6000 Km and then think about all these mods after running in your baby properly.

By this I dont mean to say that you cant try getting rid of some of the glass wool that is inside the stock muffler. Try it out my friend, I am sure you wouldnt be disappointed. ;-)

@ Edsel_Rulez

The CI 500 Standard has separate bent pipe sets. As far as I know, you cannot fix the 350's bent pipe on to the CI 500.

You are very correct with the smooth curve and the L-Bent pipe. They are available both for CI 350 and 500.

Now you also mentioned that your exhaust system has completely rusted. Well nothing to worry my friend. All you got to do is to make 2 choices.

1. Do you want your exhaust pipes to end right near the rear tyre or
2. Do you want your exhaust pipe to end just below the rear right foot rest

If 1 is your choice, here are the things you need.

1. Long bent pipe for the CI 500 Standard available both in smooth bent and L-bent.
2. CI 500 Standard's short bottle silencer with a shorter neck. You are going for a shorter neck because you are putting a longer bent pipe. The best one to go for is from a company called "Paramount"

If 2 is your choice,

The only difference here is again the bent pipe, this time it will be shorter, as the bent pipe will end right under the kick start lever.

I hope I am clear.

I will also upload the pics of my bike first thing in the morning today.

I have been told that you cannot use the CI 500's bend pipe in 350, because of the difference in Diameter ? It will not go in the insertion hole in the engine.

You are very correct Shashank. However, you could fix a coupling to the end of the bent pipe where you fix your muffler to match the diameter of the bigger 500's muffler.

Hello Everyone.

Please check my attachment. It will show you what I am talking about. Check the joint under the kick start lever.

The bent pipe I am using here came with my 350cc Electra. All I have done is that I have fixed a coupling at the end of the bent pipe to match the 500's short bottle's diameter.

I hope this solved the confusion, if someone is confused.

Actually, my main confusion was with regard to the interchangeability of the 350 and 500 silencers, especially since I have an old (2002) CI 500. Incidentally, that's quite a gap you have between the rear tyre and the mudguard. Is that a characteristic of the curved-mudguard Electras, or is it due to the gas shocks? I'm assuming you have the standard 19-inch wheels.

@ Edsel_Rulez - that is because of the gas shocks, and yes I have the standard 19 inch rims on it.

And I am not clear on what you meant but

ron_9191, what I meant was I didn't want to buy a std 350 short-bottle muffler and find that I can't fit it on my old CI 500 after all! Anyway, I guess I'll go for a setup similar to the one on your bike -- it looks fine to me.

@ Edsel_Rulez. Nothing to interchange here my friend. All you got to do is to get a short bent and a short bottle that is exclusively made for the CI 500. Let me know how it sound when everything's in shape.

Looks like a double-megaphone custom job. A bit of an overkill if you ask me.

Looks as if this thread has ground to a halt. Let's try to get the discussions going again. On the topic of short-bottle silencers, does anyone have any experience comparing the OE bottle with the Madras and the Indore? Are there any significant changes in design and sound output? I saw an Indore job at the shop the other day and it seemed to weigh a ton!

I bought a LB500 recently in Hyderabad, planning to change the silencer. No, I don't expect it to sound like an older STD 350 but I am looking for a little more aural feedback. Right now, with the stock silencer it is eerily silent, which needless to say is out of character. The Indore the bike came with is too loud and crude so I will sell it as soon as I can. I am not interested in more power either, I just want a silencer with the least reliability issues upstream.

It appears the STD 350 short bottle is the best bet with an upjet to 120. Is the bent-pipe on the LB500 the same diameter as the one on the STD 350? Are these extra jet sizes available at RE stores or spare part dealers?
