Did you also change the fog lamps?

in some LEDs you get two options in colour temperature - 6000K (white) or 4200K (yellowish). If your intent to change is only for appearance, you can go for 6000K, but mine was functional requirement for better visibility in all weather conditions (including rain and fog) for which the 4200K (yellowish colour light) is better.

And, no, I didnot change the fog lights, as I dont need to and I use fog lights only when I need them in a fog for which the deep yellow halogen ones are the best.

Understood, thank you so much. Most likely I値l be following the same upgrade as yours, any pointers I should be taking care of? Will get it done from a local mechanic tho.

Also, yours were H11 correct? Where did you get them from?

Hi all,

I have a 2017 model Honda City VMT Petrol variant. Unfortunately, met with an accident yesterday, where the front car braked all of a sudden in highway and I managed to stop 2-3 ft before that car. But another car bumped into my car's rear as a result, even my car bumped into the car in the front. There are dents and damages at rear and front both, as a result.

When I dropped the car to Whitefield Honda Body shop, Bengaluru, the list they gave which needs to be replaced is as follows:
Front bumper
Both Headlights
Both fenders
Hood and hinges
Bulk head align
Right hand Q/P
Rear bumper
Back panel
Both tail lamp
Dicky replacement
Grill
Both fender liner

Their estimate is an astonishing 195000 + tax for the above list. Will it actually cost that much? I have acko insurance where I will get only 50% for fiber and 60% for metal parts. If I check spare parts costs online, the entire list above will not cross around 45-50k. Has anybody got such things done here? Please help!

Hi MM, this sounds high, but of course without seeing or knowing the exact extent of damage, it is very difficult to comment. You can actually check what needs replacement and what can be repaired. I would also suggest that you take an exact estimate with list of parts with their prices and also the labour costs involved with each, thereafter check the prices of these parts on Boodmo, also check what other external workshops are empanelled with Acko who would do the repair (I am not sure if they would accept the parts prices at the costs that Boodmo delivers them at).

Yes, they are H11 and I ordered them online. You can check with your local Osram dealer too with the product details of the sticker that I have pasted the photo of.

Well, I got a detailed estimate.. Spare parts would cost around 1 lakh and labor charges itself would cost 96000 apparently!

I had purchased extended warranty for 40,000 + 40,000 kms 2+2 years for my Honda City (Diesel 2014). Dealers find pathetic excuses to delay and deny warranty, and if they do replace under warranty after rigorous convincing, you have to pay for extra parts and labour that are not not part of warranty.

The main problem in my case was that they considered only product failure for warranty, performance/quality issues were ignored.

Problems with my Honda City listed below with approximate defect origination kms.
The car is driven sedately and had covered 70k kms covered in 4 years under warranty on smooth NCR roads.

1. Gear Shifts hard - 20k (Quality defect, never acknowledged or resolved)

2. Dashboard Noise/rattle - From 1st Day (multiple repairs, never resolved)

3. AC failure - 30k (Problem with most Honda cars) (mine had multiple repairs, still doesn't cool well)

4. Door Lock - 10k (Problem with all Honda CITY cars launched after 2013, ignored by everyone, It took me three years to get it replaced. I have read one newspaper report of person dying locked in a burning Honda City)

5. Ignition Shelf makes grinding noise some times -30k (Quality issue never acknowledged)

6. Key Lock (Ignition) - 50k (Problem with many Honda cars) (The lock was giving problem for a long time, but they only replaced after it broke and I was stranded in the middle of the road)

7. Seat Belt retraction issue - 30k

8. Engine hole (Diesel engine defect faced by many) - 82k

9. Brake cylinder defective - 90k
10. Brake caliper failure - 90k

11. The only car I know of where the Horn becomes defective (sound change from original) after every 10k-20k kms.

If you are driving on bad roads, expect problems with suspension. Enthusiastic drivers could expect issues with steering and brakes.

I strongly advise against purchasing a 1st launch Honda if you are planning to driver more than 20k kms during the life of the car with you and are bugged by quality issues.

I also own 2015 honda city petrol and done 92000Km till date, I have only faced rattling dashboard and horn issues with the car.
Both were resolved in warranty.
My be you can try different dealership than current one.
Apart from tyre changes(2 sets till date), battery and regular service I haven't spent single rupee on anything else.

Which service centre was it? Maybe the next time I cross Pune, I値l extend my stay to get the dashboard rattle fixed :)

Hi, I am in Bangalore and I had my dashboard rattle fixed at Dakshin Honda, Hosur Road. Ask to see their test driver Kantharaj (there are several by that name in this workshop including the bodyshop incharge, so ask for this specialist guy). You can go on a test drive with him and let him experience the rattle. He is good and gets it fixed permanently. Good luck :thumbs up

Will disagree with the generalisation as I’ve owned a 2013 Amaze and a 2010 Accord, both first gen products used for 10 and 13 years respectively and apart from the hydraulic steering pump rebuild in the Accord (known weak point for 8th gen globally), have not had a single failure, not one in either car. Accord is at 80k kms and Amaze is at 60k. They drive and handle like new till today, I did overhaul the front suspension on both last year but that’s a wear and tear part, not a quality issue.

Plus I’m not even a sedate driver, I floor my cars all the time (after warm up), there’s a big difference between abuse and driving with performance in mind. Apart from brakes, nothing much really changes as far as wear and tear goes. I do stay on top of maintenance, only full synthetic Idemitsu 0W-20 changed every year (as I don’t get anywhere 10k kms), but given the dust and extreme road conditions here it’s always good policy change fluids at 80% of the time frame the manual calls for.

Amaze is very cheaply built and severely underpowered with poor headlights but it’s rock solid in terms of reliability.

Either you got a lemon or more likely your service centre is wildly incompetent, in my case I’ve always received much better service from my trusted mechanic than I ever got from Honda dealers, tried many in Gurgaon, Delhi and Mumbai. At least they were all consistent in their incompetence. The only half decent one was Pearl Honda but he shut down in 2017, maybe he was too good to be a Honda dealer.

Ignition key lock is a big problem. The key just wont go in, I have faced this multiple times and to the extent that key with remote just wont go in the ignition switch. I started using other key for ignition and now I have to keep two keys, one with remote for locking/unlocking car and the other for ignition. Out of all cars we had, this one is the first to have such an issue.
My friend had a Jazz, the same issue cropped up at 40K kms. for him, at 75-76K kms. for me.

Brake Caliper failure : This should not happen, I had to replace calipers at around 85K kms. The trust erodes if such crucial parts fail. Ranging from Wagon R to Innova, I have not seen caliper issue in any of my other cars.

Suspension : Its actually capable of handling bad roads, but one has to keep in mind City is softly sprung. Plus extremely sensitive to tyre pressure. Noisy suspension but not prone to failures. I overhauled entire suspension at 90K kms., but except coil springs.

Correct tyre pressure, driving it a notch down and suspension is ok, average for the car of this price and class, but gets the job done.

Deccan Honda Dhanakawadi Pune

I have been filling at Indian Oil filling stations for some years now but am experiencing a drop in FE in the past year or so (filled at various Indian Oil stations, not just one). I have now tried BPCL for the past one month or so and to my surprise the FE seems to be slightly better. Not sure if this is attibutable to different % of ethanol mixed in the oil in IOCL and BPCL? I am not sure upto what % biofuel mix can the 4th Gen Honda City of 2014 take? Any experiences and thoughts around it are welcome.
