Finally, I went to KHT Motors.
They replaced the AMT controller motor, AMT wiring harness, AMT GB oil.
All within 3 days. Costed 11k.

Super happy. Nano is running like new now.
I guess a meaningful discussion with the Service Dept folks helped.

Not too good news about my Nano.
After the above repairs in mid-Nov, last week while driving the Nano on its own moved to N and shut off.
Towed it to the authorized service center, where they initially said the AMT coupler is dirty hence the motor is getting confused. However, now they're saying entire AMT unit needs to be replaced. Cost estimate is 1.5 L !!

Already the shifter motor, AMT wiring harness, GB oil has been replaced in Nov. And am really worried if this 1.5L is worth it.

Guys, this is desperate situation for me - any advice what should I do ?

cheers

Re: Tata Nano AMT (Automatic) : Official Review

Dear Team BHP Members,
I have a Red Tata Nano AMT XTA 2015/16 with 45k kilometers here in Pune. It is in mint condition, well maintained either from authorised Tata workshop or FNG. Unfortuntely we have decided to part ways with her, although she has served us well so far. The primary reason we are planning to sell is that we have an Nexon electric and two scooters in our stable now and we are running out of "parking space" ( pun intended, since one of the BIG reason we bought this beauty was that she parks in a very compact space) also she is sparingly used like once a month. My question to you experts is what is the price i can expect to get?
Thanks

This is a collectable classic, so please don't sell cheap. I've the same model and variant, with just a clutch, 2 batteries and 4 tyres changed.

I'll never part with it.

PS: we have the same taste, I've a Nexon D XMA and a Jupiter in my garage.

Just sold my XT 2015 Genx for 60k. Had run only around 25.5k. Sold it to Cars24, and hence got a lower than expected price, but saved the hassle of finding a buyer and the subsequent transfer process.

Yours is an amt, should get around a lakh or so. If you have time with you and want a better price, sell directly to a prospective buyer.

Just seeing your post. 1.5 L is way to much an amount to be spent on the Nano AMT. Were you able to enquire outside or find other means?

If you've not done the work yet and if there's no other means to get this sorted, maybe try writing to Tata mentioning the kind of works you've already done on the AMT and it failing still. Else, the only option maybe is to part ways with the car because I can't imagining having to spend 50% of your on-road price on an AMT repair.

Looking forward to your update and hope it has gotten solved without having to go the hard way around.

I too had a Nano XTA and faced a similar issue. I was quoted 70k about a couple of years back. Thankfully that at the service center some TATA employees were also present and I spoke to them about the issue. After a lot of back and forth and haggling, the repairs costed me around 30k.

I did not keep the car for another day after it was repaired. Had lost the faith. It had run only around 28k.

Nano being nano, I ended up buying another preloved example last year, although, this time over, its a manual car. Thoroughly enjoying it every single day!

I am not sure how to reach Tata folks, but am not too optimistic about Tata admitting to an issue on their side. Do you have any email-id etc that I am reach?

Yes, I agree. The chances are bleak but still since it's kind of the last resort, it might be better to give it a shot. The only mail id i'd used ages ago was customercare@tatamotors.com but this was eons ago so not sure how it is now. Also, try out their twitter handle which is where I've seen many owners getting responses.

Hi,
Same situation here. I also own a Pink Nano XTA with odometer 39K and a Nexon Kaziranga Edition. I will never sell it as I use it for city rides. But if you have plan to sell it I will suggest you to sell not below 2.4 L. Now a days there is good demand for small car. Try to sell it to a genuine customer who really appreciate your car.

Re: Tata Nano AMT (Automatic) : Official Review

Just out of curiosity, Is it possible to convert AMT back to manual?
Thankfully, haven't had any issue so far in my Nano XTA at 29k kms.
But looking at quiet a few having had problems, want to know if it's possible to convert it to manual

Ask yourself these questions?
1. Nano XTA is 5 speed GB.
2. Nano MT is 4 speed GB.
3. How will the gear shift linkage work.
4. Odometer shows Auto N and 1 to 5.
Doesn't seem possible the swap.
Hope this helps.

I always thought GenX Nano was 5 speed for both auto and manual. Thanks for the clarification.
