Re: 2021 Maruti Celerio Review

Mod note: Please avoid quoting entire large post for replies. Thanks.

It's really amusing when someone compares but touch infotainment with Tiagos and says sub par. While the reality is both are made by Harman. And Marutis version of Harman system it 1 notch better than Tiagos.
This would change after Tatas get the newer ones but for now Marutis 7 inch infotainment system is a nice compact Harman system.

The previous generation Celerio had quite a few issues with the AMT unit. Hopefully, the newer generation Magneti Marelli AMT unit isn’t riddled with problems. Apart from this, Maruti has a wide service network and part availability is never much of an issue. So ownership experiences should be satisfactory. That being said, get the extended warranty without giving it a second thought.

Re: 2021 Maruti Celerio Review

Preponed the delivery from tomorrow to today. Got it delivered today evening.

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20211223_174646.jpg

Initial impressions :

1. Power window switches, door lock/unlock switches placed unconventionally in the middle. Irritating to say the least

2. The gear lever is placed a bit too low. If you are tall, you will find it very obvious

3. Front seats are much better than old celerio. Will be more comfortable in comparison

4. K10C has excellent driveability. Reverse gear over an incline did not need accelerator input. My kwid 1.0/ celerio k10B in comparison would have needed accelerator input in the same case

5. Not at all a highway car if you like enthusiastic driving. I drove for about 40 km on the highway today. I did not like taking the car over 70 kmph. The car feels at home at 60-75 kmph in 5th. The power delivery all through seemed flat. May be, the 400 Nm of my storme and 200 Nm of my altroz diesels make the lack of torque in new celerio felt more

6. Footwell not small and not large either. I was able to place my left foot in the gap between clutch and bottom portion of the dash. A small dead pedal would have been better but then, it would have to be too narrow to fit in that space

7. Suspension definitely stiffer than old celerio. Bumps felt distinctly

8. The car is tuned for fuel efficiency. Maruti has the guts to display instant max fuel efficiency limit till 50 kmpl.

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20211223_195438.jpg

After a 50 km drive with 4 on board, the MID showed an excellent 24.3 kmpl.

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20211223_200131.jpg

New celerio will never disappoint any of its owners with respect to fuel efficiency

9. Car is spacious enough for 4 tall adults

10. Road visibility is excellent, with bonnet being visible from the drivers seat

11. Steering typically Maruti - light and vague

12. Build quality is very typically Maruti - light and doors close with hollow thunk sound. Heck, this car is lighter than old celerio

13. AC was excellent. But AC controls are still those cheap rotary knobs from the 90s.

14. It can be a terrific city car. Excellent fuel efficiency, small dimensions, superb driveability, light steering and clutch, very good outward visibility

After delivery, this is the first message the car communicated with me

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20211223_175634.jpg

Stingy Maruti dealers. Low fuel on the car. First thing I did was to fill up the tank. It gulped 28 liters of petrol.

Parked with the storme v400

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20211223_201325.jpg

I am guessing the looks might grow on me

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20211223_193959.jpg

Anyways, I am happy that I got lucky twice this year with new car purchases. Altroz booked and delivered in a span of 20 days, Celerio booked and delivered in a span of 15 days!! All this when there is chip shortage and car deliveries are getting postponed everywhere.

I don't think I will be driving it often. I will post my actual fuel efficiency readings when I clock some substantial mileage on the car.

Congratulations on your new Celerio, the mileage figures are mind-boggling. Compared to the old K10B, how is the pep/pull of the car, is it as enthusiastic on highways?

Surely they have improved in refinement, mileage and driveability, but is it as enthusiastic in picking speeds like the previous engine was? Atleast for K12N, I didn't like the Dualjet engine's nature on open roads despite increased power figures.

Shashi

Thank you Shashi

Honestly, K10B felt more enthusiastic than the K10C with respect to picking up speeds. I am slightly disappointed in that regard. Since it's going to be my dad's car, my worry is short lived.

My observation with K10C is exact same as yours with K12N.

Re: 2021 Maruti Celerio Review

Celerio hasn't been used much. Just completed 200 km in 5 days.

My dad has been adamant that I will have to complete the first 1000 km (which is just another week's usage for me). Surprisingly he wanted the car to look fresher, like my kwid. I had dechromed the kwid grille except the logo and had roof wrapped it with matte black wrap. Dad liked the OE gloss wrap of my Altroz and hence I decided to get the gloss black wrap done on it.

I did not like the two chrome strips in the front. They will not suit the car after getting the black roof wrap. I decided to wrap them strips with matte black so as to match the front bumpers black part.

Also wrapped the ORVM with gloss black. Gloss black areas that match are 15 inch alloy wheels, ORVMs and roof

Number plate also was done, with my favorite German font(all my cars have them) with Indian tricolor on the top right.

Before : White Celerio ZXI+ , lukewarm looks like Vanilla icrecream

The chrome strips

Work in progress

It was a nervous experience to see guys standing on the feather light Maruti lol

2021 Celerio is stupendous when it comes to fuel efficiency

I had to drive on the highways for about 25 km without AC (courtesy - take away food that had to remain hot till I reach home) at 70-80 kmph. The car returned an unbelievable 29.1 kmpl (MID)

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20211228_131740.jpg

Even in moderate city traffic, it doesn't go below 22 kmpl!! While returning back, I drove at an healthy 80-90 kmph with AC on. It delivered an amazing 26.1 kmpl

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20211228_140305.jpg

2021 Celerio is by far the most fuel efficient car I have owned. Mind you, I have owned several of them , be it the Chevrolet 1.0 diesel or Swift 1.3 diesel or Ciaz 1.3 diesel or Kwid 1.0 or Altroz 1.5 diesel. The celerio is more efficient than all these cars. Altroz diesel comes close though.

K10C is more refined, has better driverability and delivers a solid 3kmpl more than the K10B. Only gripe is that it is even more lifeless than the K10B if you are an enthusiastic driver.

Auto start stop in traffic works seamlessly. Once clutch is pressed it restarts again. I don't know if it isn't harmful for the engine to crank again when the AC is still ON.

Happened to check tyre pressure for the first time and was shocked to see 49 psi on all wheels. No wonder why it was bumpy. Reduced the pressure to 34 psi(which is still high by my standards).

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20211228_125635.jpg

Maruti recommends 36psi for front and 32 psi for the rear !! I will settle with 32 psi on all wheels in the future. Ride quality has much improved now.

Replaced the totally worthless stock OE horn with Roots Windtone horn.

Heavily disappointed with the music system. It sounds like it is placed in a well. I thought the equalizer settings were not proper and set it to preset settings. Even then it is below average. I am not sure if my altroz's 6 speaker Harman kardon has spoilt me, but I am sure my ciaz and heck, even my previous celerio had better music systems.

Total expenditure today

Roof and ORVM gloss black wrap : 2500 INR
Roots windtone 90 horn : 1400 INR
Number plate : 800 INR

I am waiting for OE ready made seat covers, OE rear spoiler and 7D mats for the car. Being new launch, the accessories are not available even in maruti dealership, let alone local shops.

My primary ride has been put to some rest as Celerio needs some miles to be clocked. Can't wait to complete 400 or so km and refill the tank and see what actual fuel efficiency it delivers.

Was the stupendous fuel economy helped by the over inflated tires?

That was after the tyre pressure being corrected. Only thing that overinflated tyres did was to make the ride very stiff and bouncy

Re: 2021 Maruti Celerio Review

followed new Celerio briefly today, then overtook it and kept noticing on the IRVM for a few mins. I have to say MSIL has hit it out of the park with the looks on road, except for the flap-type door handles. It looks dashing when compared to the old one which I always felt looked very bland. I think it's just a matter of time before it starts doing higher dispatches again!

Completed 500 km on my 2021 Celerio

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20220108_215320.jpg

Very impressed with the car when it comes to

* Driveability
* NVH
* Ride quality
* Fuel efficiency
* Ease of use
* Triple digit cruise-ability : 100 kmph comes at 2750rpm in 5th, which is very silent inside the cabin

Not so impressed when it comes to

* Steering feedback
* ICE sound quality
* Outright acceleration and performance

On highways, the car delivers excellent fuel efficiency. I have some crazy numbers being thrown up on the infotainment. This is one such time, when I drove from the gym in a cold morning without AC switched ON

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20220108_215051.jpg

Actual fuel efficiency by tankful to tankful method so far, for the 500 km, of which 200 km were in rural areas, 100 km in city and 200 km on highways - 21.xx kmpl

Bang on to all the points. And for the Amt I will add smoothness of shifts + flawless working hill hold to the plus points also. In fact the K10C is much more refined- platform wise and engine wise, that after driving Celerio, if I have a go in my dad's Spresso amt, it is significantly noisier and there is transmission whine also. Celerio is very smooth at < 2000 rpm and in the city, silent.

Spresso amt though feels a bit more peppy, as it holds on to gears for faster acceleration and does not shift up to higher gears so fast like the Celerio, enhancing the feeling of peppiness ( Spresso doesn't get into 5th unless speed is > 50 km/h, whereas the Celerio is already in 5th by 40 km/h). But the Spresso is at least 3 km/l down in city compared to my celerio.

The only major negative ( and this perhaps applies to other AMTs also) is on slow driving up inclines. Celerio starts off in 1st, then immediately shifts into 2nd and then after 2 seconds decides first is better and downshifts. This sort of is annoying and same sometimes happens for 2nd to 3rd and immediately back to 2nd. ( from the gradient I know the car can only do it in second, but smartass AMT decides 3rd is best and then changes in mind and back to 2nd !)Shift is ok, but abruptly rpm changes and there will be a lurch. Spresso does not exhibit this as the AMT does not change from 1st to 2nd so fast like the Celerio.

My overall mileage in 800 kms of driving the Celerio( 300 highway and 500 peak city with 100% ac usage and idling stop disabled) stands at 15.8 km/l.

1st service is done and the service center upgraded the headlamps to Philips xtreme vision h4 12v 60/55w. Yet to test its effectiveness though.

Re: 2021 Maruti Celerio Review

I had 3 hours to spare today. Used it to get artificial leather seat covers on the new celerio.

Before

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20220113_141030.jpg

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20220113_141057.jpg

I used to have beige and black seat covers on my ciaz and Safari Dicor as both had major beige areas in dash. U did not go for any seat cover for my current storme. My altroz came with superb quality OE black leatherette with contrast white stitching.

The celerio has black interiors. I always loved black + tan combination and since celerio had a black dash, I decided it will be the best to go for.

We can choose our colour combinations and stich colour too. Chose tan with black borders and white stitches. They took a good 2 hours and 30 minutes to get the stitching done and another hour to fit it in.

This is how it looked after fitting

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20220113_194634.jpg

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20220113_190618.jpg

Very satisfied with the looks and fit

Meanwhile, when the fitting was in process, I couldn't help but compare the seats of Nissan Magnite and new celerio. I was surprised that both were very similar when it came to seatback thickness and contours. Nissan though had removable headrests and better underthigh support.

All black is celerio's seat

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20220113_174411.jpg

Big improvement over last Gen celerio is the front seat design. New celerio has much better seats.

A before - after collage. The wrinkles were taken care before fitting into the car

2021 Maruti Celerio Review-20220113_202618.jpg

Damage to wallet - a reasonable 5k INR
