Good effort, but from what I can see in the pictures, the after shots show a lot more haze and lack of sharpness. Which is to be expected given the heavy abrasives in cerium oxide based glass polishes.
Piano black trim is very soft black plastic with an even softer clearcoat applied over. Just like car paint, stick to abrasives used to finish down soft car paints and you’ll get good results.
This is a before and after shot of a near new Camry key fob with the same glossy black plastic. Normally I’d use 0.25” micro pads with a rotary polisher extension but here I’ve done it by hand. APC - Menzerna 400 heavy cut - Menzerna 3000 - IPA wipe - protect. By hand it just takes a lot longer and sometimes it can be difficult to finish down perfectly. Took about 40 mins in this case.
Not perfect but a big improvement, given how thin clearcoat is, never go after deeper scratches as you risk burning through. |
