Re: Honda Elevate Review

Hi fellow BHPians, seek your technical inputs on differences observed during my back to back Elevate Manual & CVT Test drives:

1. Engine whine was higher in Manual (MT)
2. CVT was much more relaxed and thus less stressful.

I generally like relaxed engines and am not an edge of the seat driver. Simply loved the CVT. The MT was a bit of a let down. Am very surprised at the stark difference between the two. To be honest I've not compared the City MT vs CVT.

What am I missing?

It's a bit surprising since most of the consumers find the CVT to be whiney compared to the MT. And that is because of the rubber band effect of the CVT, specially when revved hard and sudden, the RPM increases while the speed is not so quick to progress.

But anyway, since you prefer relaxed engines, CVT is the best choice for you. Simply put, any Automatic will give rest to your left foot and help you have a stress free and relaxing drive compared to an MT car, specially in bumper to bumper city traffic.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

I am one of the earliest buyers who pre-booked and bought in Sep 2023, i am enjoying it but have 4 major qualms,
1. Engine noise over high speed. What can be done for it?
2. Too much body roll horizontally when going over bumps at low speeds
3. Emergency breaking gets activated every time engine is started, is there a way to disable it permanently?
4. Company fitted wipers have started making noise already, seems like have to go for an alternative already!

Anybody else facing these issues and best recommendations for rectifying these, thanks in advance!

This is not possible unless Honda provides a software update to permanently disable it. However, this is not really an issue as I have never experienced Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) kicking in, while driving in congested city roads. I would encourage you to try driving the car without turning the feature off and you will not see a need to disable it permanently.

I have been driving a ZX CVT since October '23. I agree with your observations regarding the noise and wipers. However, not felt body roll as such. In regards to 3. CMBS or the emergency braking, I never had issues with it until now even in bumber to bumber traffic or highway. But I had found lane assist from ADAS suite a bit annoying and disabled it from console and it had stayed that way ever since, even after numerous restarts post that. This was not the case originally and I do specifically remember SA confirming it would reset on every start. I am not sure if Elevate comes with OTA that changed it or it has to do with the fact that they had rebooted the console disconnecting the battery and some other process during the first service as I have had issues with Honda Connect app updates. So you might want to check at the service center regarding this.

Some parts yes.

1. Engine noise is more and music system is just meh.
2. This happens when wheels dont cross the bumps at once.
3. No.

Check your cold tyre pressure once. Keep 33psi in the front tyres and 32psi in the rear as recommended and see if it makes a difference.

I find the audio output to be really good in the ZX variant. Are you referring to ZX too?

I think it was a great and timely intervention by the system.

I see you are using Nexdigitron dash cam. I have shortlisted the same to buy ‘NEXDIGITRON A3 Pro Car Dash Camera with OBD-2 Parking Kit’ for 4500/- on amazon.
Are you using the same one? Can you throw some light on how you have made the connections?
Thanks in advance!

Aren't you worried that hardwiring the parking kit might void the manufacturer warranty?

I bought Ace plus gps variant from flipkart during the offers. The OBD-2 variant may not have gps; location coordinates and car speed might not be displayed without GPS.

Mine is not hard wired; its connected with an USB cable, done by myself following the youtube videos. I didn't open any panels as shown in the videos as it might mess up the side airbags, just pushed the usb cable to inside little bit with the pry tool (provided with camera) along the edges on the passenger side and from under the glove box to the charger socket.

If we observe the car speed displayed in the above video; it shows 0 kmph few seconds after the car actually stopped by automatic brake. so, my recommendation is to check for any other camera which has good GPS updation frequency and thus the correct speed display.

Prior to installing this Ace camera, I had an old android mobile fixed in the car with Droid dashcam app to record and manage the video loop; this app has a very good feature to set the GPS update frequency upto 0.1 sec, which gives more accurate speed display.

Using the mobile has its own hassles, but if one doesn't like wires.. can try that.

I think the obd connect is plug-n-play and this can be disconnected as and when required easily. Rest can anybody else throw some light on this?

I checked out both the cars extensively and I found the Creta with its panoromic sunroof and slightly wider rear bench and lighter colours feeling more spacious and good place to be in compared to the Elevate.

What also helps Creta to drift in its favour is the novelty factor and the fact that the Hyundai's 1.5 NA CVT is actually quicker to 100kmph and drives rather well even when compared with the legendry VTEC on the Elevate.

Where Creta loses (talking about the S(O) variant here) is the leatherite seat covers and ADAS.

But if someone is not too keen on ADAS or drives mostly in city , which I expect most of the CVT owners to be driving in, I think the Creta S(O) IVT has an edge over the Elevate specially considering the price undercut.

I had the same question, when looking at the pricing of Creta. No doubt, creta S(O) IVT is better VFM in terms of features. Having said that,

1. Honda Elevate's potential for better crash test rating will help. I for one, just did not consider creta or seltos due to its poor safety rating. I was looking at german cars and Elevate only. If creta comes with 5 star rating, i think german cars, as well as Elevate sales will suffer heavily.
2. IMO, there is a certain psychological blocking aspect in taking non-top model. My wife would have never agreed for a non-top model, even though features are actually better in Creta S(O). She just wont reason.
3. Some folks find Elevate's road presence, bonet view better.
