Re: Restoration of MDN 6494 ('55 Millecento) - In remembrance of my Father

I think the result is very pleasing! Good Job doc! hope this will be only the first of many more cars you will restore. Why don't you fabricate a badge bar as visible in Rony's car and mount this and many more badges that will follow onto that. The Three slat alumium Grill is very delicate and sometimes the weight of the badge warps it down.
Also I highly recommend sourcing a Fiat radio surround and putting in a radio where you have left a blank for the millecento script. Kasli on the forum imports some really great looking classic radios which function just like modern radios.

Hi Mr. Mole

Thanks fot the compliment. This restoration would not have been possible without the help & guidance from people like you and others in TBHP.

The AA badge is not screwed onto the grill. It is fixed onto a clamp which is screwed onto the front body. So the grill does not bear the weight of the badge.

I have the orginal millecento script badge, its of a left hand drives so i have to fabricate the back Plate. Once that is ready that dashboard empty slot will be closed.

I was not sure whether my car had a radio there. Anyway will try to source the original radio.

Thamks & regards.

Dr.Kannan.

YES ! Finally I have finished the restoration of my 1955 FIAT 1100 103 MILLECENTO which I started 1 year - 3 months & 10 days ago. Just a day before the 2nd death anniversary of my father in whose remembrance I started this restoration - A fitting tribute to a man who loved his car till the last moment of his life.

Thanks APPA, for staying with me and looking over me through the entire restoration.

Thanks to one and all in the TEAM BHP for guiding and advising me, a doctor by profession, through this all new world of mine. I did not know the ABC's of restoration when I started it. But now I am being called more often these days for restoration queries rather health regarding issues

I have posted few restored pictures for now and i promise more to follow.

your comments and criticism are welcomed.

Thank you.

DR. KANNAN.
Congratulations on completing your project Doc, the efforts you have put in is a fitting tribute to the memories of a loved one. The car has a new lease on life for a long time to come. The efforts you have made in sourcing original fittings shows, and gives the car a great stance. I would only suggest you repaint the interior mirror to the original grey rather than body colour. Wish you a great ownership experience, and you are motivating me to finish my long pending project 55 as well. Do keep us posted on future developments with the car.

Thanks Karl

I was not aware that the rear view mirror was originally painted in grey. Anyway lets see when I take the car next for any paint job will correct it.

Please post me a picture of the rear view mirror in grey colour for reference.

Thanks & regards.

Re: Restoration of MDN 6494 ('55 Millecento) - In remembrance of my Father

Hi Guys

Now that my restoration is over, I was thinking of going into the history of my car.

The car was originally West Bengal number plated. She was bought by my dad some time between 1961 - 1963. The Original Registration was WBD 9170, bought on 28/11/1955.

Does this registration ring any bells to any of our Calcutta TBHP'ians !

If anybody gets a break on this, please do share it with me. It will be a great pleasure knowing them and letting them know that their car is in good hands. Hope I could get any pictures of my car prior to 1961!

My contact details are: 099940 78668 & drkannant@gmail.com

Fingers crossed!

Re: Restoration of MDN 6494 ('55 Millecento) - In remembrance of my Father

Hello Guys,

Its been some time since I updated on my Millecento.

She is driving fine, just giving her the final touches to some of the glitches that is showing up when you start taking her for drives. There was a slight drag to one side when you brake, got that corrected. Anything that I need to be concerned of or looked into, Please advice.

My big concern now is my wiper arms & blades. Not able to find the correct links as my original link has lost its threads, so when the wiper is switched on the motor is working but the wiper arms do not move. Need some help on this issue guys

Got my dashboard Millecento badge restoration work completed and fixed.

please advice on the windscreen wiper problem.

Thanks & regards to all.

Re: Restoration of MDN 6494 ('55 Millecento) - In remembrance of my Father

Hey Guys,

Its been a long time since I last posted any updates on my millecento. The car is doing great, did about 400 miles since i got it restored. There wasn't any major issues except for some excessive radiator heating. Got the radiator water circulation passage cleaned and added coolant to the radiator.

There was some excessive heat radiating into the cabin and onto to the bonnet. Got the heat insulation material stuck to the bonnet and to the fire wall from the koyas.

Any suggestion on how to take care of the body paint. Can i get the C quartz treatment done or the 3M Teflon coating? How often should i get this done? Please advice if there is anything else other than the C quartz or the 3M Teflon coating for body paint care.

Thanks & regards.

A] What seems like excessive overheating to you, is in fact quite normal for us. On hot summer days, not only is the engine running hot (nearing 90 Degrees), the entire dash is quite hot, and mind you, heat radiates from the dash.

In fact if you observe Delight meter clusters, you shall see that they taper a bit abnormally, a sign of getting a bit too heated up, perhaps?

The solution- Listen to the Beatles on the Radio, and open up the quarter glasses. Oh! The breeze! Imagine that you're not in 2014, but actually in 1964.

It works most of the time.

So, get rid of the insulation. Unoriginal, and needless, atleast to me.

B) The need for paint protection- You have a layer of clear on, I presume. Just get the good 'ol Waxpol, or any other solid wax (not the newfangled liquids, mind you!) and spend an entire Saturday/Sunday. The end results, if excellent will leave you creaking. This joint aching oh-so-slightly etc.

The joy- Oh yeah! It is worth it!

Lastly, there is no need as such for explicit paint protection, such as 3M PPF. The car is not used everyday, why bother pampering it excessively ? After all, the old maxim applies here.

"The lesser spent on a machine, and the more it works, the better".
