The SS (Super Sport) was "derived" from the "S" series; further iterations, many for racing, included the SSK ("K" for Kurtz or "Short" wheelbase) and the SSKL ("L" for Leicht / Light - which had holes drilled in the chassis and other modifications to lighten the car). It is interesting that Jaguar which started out as "SS" for Swallow Sidecar Co., then SS Cars Ltd. - was later renamed. The "SS" connotation wasn't fashionable or favoured in Britain due to its obvious Nazi connections! | |
