Re: Bugattis in India!

Just finished reading "THE LAST WHITE HUNTER: Reminiscences of a Colonial Shikari" about the life and times of Donald Anderson son of famed shikari/conservationist/author Kenneth Anderson. the book states that Kenneth Anderson at one point of time owned a '1920's racing Bugatti' that the father and son duo would take out for spirited drives on early mornings at MG Road in Bangalore. He however had to part with it as it developed some problems.

Here you go.....the Kenneth Anderson family Bugatti. Looks like a Brescia.

How I wish the registration was visible!

A few "lesser" cars and some very interesting period pictures can be found here:

Bugatti in Mysore

Knowing of my interest in old cars, a friend recently showed me some photos of a Bugatti her relative used to own when he was based in Mysore, India. Nothing is known about the car.

My friend would like to know which model of Bugatti it is. I am guessing Type 22/23 early 1920's but I'm no Bugatti expert.

Any information I can pass on to her would be of interest.

Getting the images onto this forum is, I find, always a bit hit and miss, so bear with.

I love the one of the lad panel-beating the pointed tail back into shape with the Bug' just visible through the back door - The boy looks about 12. Also note the rather precarious jacking arrangements in the shot of it in the garage.

Re: Bugatti in Mysore

Thanks KartikeyaL.

I did find the details of the Kenneth Anderson Bugatti by searching the forum. I agree it's a very similar car and located only a couple of hours drive from Mysore.

However, I asked my friend for her relative's name which apparently was Alan Kinkead.

So, close, but no cigar!

Cheers

Thanks Bodger for posting this lovely and unique car.

The car (exception of the windshield / wings ) and location are too close to warrant more investigation, I think. The windshield and wings could have been easily modified.

We can see both windshields actually - before and after modifying The before frame matches the Anderson car.

Thanks for sharing, these are indeed priceless. Any more details that your friend can share will be much appreciated - however insignificant.

I will scan and post the rest of the pictures. They may offer some clues. Also, I am not sure of the dates Kinkead was in Mysore. I will ask my friend who may have an idea.

Actually, I have a few more pics which for some reason didn't upload. Will try again later.

Kartikeyal, I see you have an OHV Minor. Is that an overhead cam engine with a vertical dynamo? If so, I know a bit about those as I have a J2 MG.
