Hi Travancore. I am onto something. How do you know that the lightning stripes car is ex-Nawanagar? I am told that this is not the case. More later.

As Elizabeth Junek, the famous racing driver who was given this car by Ettore Bugatti, came to India and Ceylon and then sold it in India, I suppose the photo could be in India or Ceylon, does anyone recognize any clues?
In the Bugatti Register there is this picture under the same # as Elizabeth Junek's T44, but it looks as a completely different car to me. Anyone?

Re: Bugattis in India!

Does anyone have info about the ex-Holkar Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic Coupe ?
I've heard rumors it was underground in Mumbai until a decade ago.

Re: Bugattis in India!

Yes this is a reprint from one of the old issues of Auto India (or Indian Auto, I'm not sure). The article also mentioned that this may or may not be a true Bugatti - but probably a badged Bugatti. It also does not have a Bugatti engine - but a De Soto one. Please correct me if I am wrong.

If published reports are to be believed, you ar correct V12! I had talked about this car back in Post # 14 on this thread. Good that the car is finally making some "headway". Cheers

I don't know anything about Bugattis but when I saw the car in Jodhpur I recall being amazed at the detailing such as the Molsheim script on leaf spring shackle plates. I think the chassis and body to the rear of the cowl may still be the original. It may have lost the engine and the grill etc up front.

Re: Bugattis in India!

Someone has posted this pic on Supercars and Exotics in Mumbai | Facebook and claimed it was clicked in Worli a few years back, but is not in Mumbai anymore. To my knowledge, its presently in VJM's collection. I had long heard rumors of a Bugatti being in Worli, and that it would come out after midnight to refuel at the Lotus Court Petrol Pump. But the car in question was a Type 57 and everyone I asked denied of knowing such a car existing in Mumbai. This pic has only proved that the Bugatti in Worli news was true, only difference being that it turned out to be a Type 44 and not 57.

Re: Bugattis in India!

I would not believe a Type 57 Bugatti exists in India today. Not sure if any actually made it to India. The Holkars might have had one but in the UK.

Open to correction on the above.

Any further news on the "maharaja of Goa's" Bugatti ???

A post on page 1 states that according to Bugatti's records, a Type 57 did make it to India and was ordered by the Holkars. There is no documentation about the car nor does anyone know its current whereabouts, so the possibility that it has gone underground (and could probably be in India) cannot be ruled out.

As for the Maharaja of Goa's Bugatti, there are 5-6 palaces in there. Anyone knows which of those is rumored to have it?

I don't think it would be appreciated if I said where exactly the car is, but I understand the car is not in Goa. It is in fact not far from Bombay at all.
