Nope, Cama's car is also now red and cream, but retains the number BMY 4944, a Bombay regn dating to the late 40s. MMF 2525 is also a Bombay regn, but that dates to the 70s.

Found it ! It's WVA60, P. Bhogilal's SW.

FYI, Prince Muazam & Princess Nilufer of Hyderabad had identical cars, this one WVA60 was Muazam's and WTA23 was Nilufer's.

I found another reference to the unique Calcutta bodied Ghost in a friends book on Rolls'.




It also carries this picture of a Baroda Phantom 1.



The caption reads "1929 Phantom I tourer, chassis number LF 75, coachwork by Barker, owned by C D Ellis. One of the last Phantom 1s made, this car was originally owned by the Maharaja of Baroda.

Yes, the names of the original owners come from the RR factory sales records kept at the Hunt House. I don't know what colour the cars were originally but Princess Nilufer won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Concours d'Elegance in April 1947 with WTA23.

Here is a photo I have just bought on ebay, showing Phantom I 71DC Barker tourer. It was bought by the Nawab of Dowla and is shown here just having been imported from India in January 1973. It has English registration KNX 4L. Enjoy.

Hi Steve, isn't this 23RC which belonged to Maharaja Umed Singh of Kotah? They are similar.

As my father recalls seeing it Nawab Wali-ud-Dowla's car was fully in buffed aluminium as shown in the picture against 71 DC posted by Julian

The car I posted is indeed 23RC; sorry everyone. On the back of the photo is written "originally property of Nawab of Dowla (recently brought back from India)", so the photographer was wrong!

I have tried a few times to upload information and a photo of the next Phantom III in my list. But, and this has happened before but not to this extent, the website throws me out as I try to submit the post. This is very annoying, as it means that I have to rewrite the post again and again. This next Phantom III is unusual in that it was originally not intended to go to India. It was off test on 8 March 1937, and set up for use in the UK. It was fitted with engine M38P and with steering at the middle E rake.

The chassis had been ordered on 11 September 1936 by Windovers Ltd., and it was sent to them by truck from the RR London depot on 24 March 1937. The order had originally been intended for the Honourable Charles Fitzroy, the son and heir of the 3rd Baron Southampton, but he cancelled the order on 23 March.

Windovers built a 7-passenger saloon on this chassis (their body number 5744); this is an unusal body, because it had no division but was a 'six-light' (that is, with three side windows each side); such a body is sometimes called a saloon limousine. It had a single spare wheel, to the driver's side.

The car was to be held as Windovers Ltd stock, and was sold on 4 June 1937 to Maharaja Sir Bhupal Singh Bahadur of Udaipur (Mewar State) (22 February 1884 - 4 July 1955); he was the 8th Maharaja and succeeded on 24 May 1930. He also owned two 20/25HP cars: GNS11, a Hooper tourer and GKC10, a Thrupp & Maberly limousine. He may also have taken over use of his father's Silver Ghost Hooper torpedo tourer 64AB; his mother owned Twenty 64H9, a Barker tourer.

The Phantom III was finished on 7 July 1937 and on 11 September was shipped to Bombay aboard the ss "Strathnaver".

I know of no other owners until Pranlal Bhogilal in 1975. The car has been registered GJB3764, and is currently a mid-blue in colour.

Would you have any pictures of the car after being in Bhogilal's custody? I have this tiny photo of what appears to be the same car. Cant recall where I found it.
