Nawab Mir Barkat Ali Khan, (Mukarram Jah Bahadur) the VIII th Nizam with Princess Esra Jah at the Cedars Palace, Ooty, posing with the 1906 Rover 6 H.P

Picture credit: Rajkumari Indira Devi Dhanrajgir via The Paigah's of the Deccan FB page

Posting it here though, there are doubts that whether this car was ever owned by the Nizam, Nizam might have just used it as a photo-op, firstly because it is a simple car, secondly it has a civil registration, thirdly, the mascot seems to be Islamic, and none were used on any Nizam cars.

The car survives in a Delhi collection.

BHPian Vintage Khan (Mohd. Luqman) interacted with Daimler Guru Brian Smith, who made the following observations :

Quote:
Interesting picture. I don’t think I can give a conclusive answer on several points but note the following:

I agree, it cannot be the 1905 car belonging to the Nizam.

George V’s first Daimler (when he was still Prince of Wales in 1909) was a 38hp model shown at page 71 in ‘Royal Daimlers’. The Queen also had a 38hp car and this is mentioned in some detail between pp 81-85 in ‘Royal Daimlers’. However I do not recall having previously seen pictures or a mention of the royal car being shipped to India for a royal tour.

The car in the picture referred to by ‘Little._historian’ is almost certainly (from what one can see in definition from the image), a Daimler but no royal Daimler based in the UK had the roof feature shown – perhaps to aid cooling and provide fresh air! So it might have been the case that royalty made an earlier unofficial visit and were provided with Daimler transport for the occasion.
