Re: Bengaluru Superbike Rider arrested for doing 300 km/h on flyover

Is there any chance that the speedo is erroneous! There is a moment in the video (around 1:15) when the fellow negotiates between two cars and a bike, crossing lanes and back, all above 110. That's impossible at that speed, besides the other three vehicles do appear to be doing fairly average speeds.

Re: Bengaluru Superbike Rider arrested for doing 300 km/h on flyover

There is far more common nowadays. People literally put a GOPRO on their helmet and record doing extreme speeds on motorways to gather views on Youtube.

For example look at this video -

And just look at the likes and views. Instagram has even more short videos of people doing illegal speeds just because they think they can.

All it would actually take is one pothole, a tyre burst or a simple act of losing balance. You don't just survive when you fall at those speeds, your body actually ends up turning into a pizza if you hit something.

Heck, even worse. Not only do they put their own life on the line, they actually can end up killing others.

These guys come in various shades, some do 300Kmph on a Yam R1, some do Wheelie on a RX100 (with pillion) and others do stunts on Honda Dio. Its the live performance to an unprepared audience that counts.
No one will see much of you when fly past them at 300kmph they can post GoPro footage of themselves, just like this guy did. I know there are people who do stupid stuff to show off, but there are also a lot of them who wouldn't ride/drive fast on the streets if there was a racetrack nearby.

In bengaluru, there is a speed week organized at jakkur aerodrome every year ( i think),mechanics vie for speed glory in their modified machines. They make their own frames, bolt on those frames modified, ported RX135 engines with performance parts and race it on a flat track for quarter mile glory. Fun event with a lot of sponsors. Just outside the venue you would find idiots who do a wheelie on their bikes for showoffs. So there is still a section of people for whom organized events and concerns on your own safety is a restriction of your freedom. So, yeah there are two sides to the same coin.

Re: Bengaluru Superbike Rider arrested for doing 300 km/h on flyover

The sad irony is that any biker on a half decent bike also who is geared up for his own safety is perceived as playing road rash. And the jokers zig zagging half naked and recklessly on their scootys and pocket rocket bikes (beating lights and what not) within the city go completely scotfree of any consequences.

I honestly think he should be named and shamed. No need to hide his details. He has put his idiot views quite proudly on social media.

The sense of entitlement that these jokers carry is incredible. They assume they are only playing with their own lives. What about an innocent motorist who may die at the hands of their recklessness!

Well he's got the math right. He believes God doesn't exist. And the way he rides when he "feels like God", he may not exist for long either.

Re: Bengaluru Superbike Rider arrested for doing 300 km/h on flyover

Just checked his instagram account, seems he has taken down all his posts. However, the video is already available freely on the internet. This guy should be severely reprimanded for such idiocy and putting other road users as such grave risk. Good that his bike got confiscated and he was put behind bars. The RTO/traffic police should suspend his license for good and make an example out of him. This will dissuade a lot of reckless superbike riders from doing such stunts - something that I see every weekend on the bangalore - hoskote highway.

Re: Bengaluru Superbike Rider arrested for doing 300 km/h on flyover

A classic case of money cannot buy common sense. I am ok if he kills himself doing this but one fine day people like him (both bikers and car drivers) will end up killing an innocent sole bread winner of a family ruining the future of his family including his kids future. I cannot even wonder what kind of mentality these people have.

I am glad Banglore cops are doing a crack down on such people. But because of people like him the true responsible biking enthusiasts enjoying their expensive bike (which is also higly taxed and paid for) will end up being harassed by cops.

Most of my friends who are into biking are responsible lot. Their passion for bikes is amazing but at the same time they ride safe. Even after all the safety precautions bikers are the most vulnerable on our streets. Add to that people who ride/drive like this are really Skating on thin ice.

Re: Bengaluru Superbike Rider arrested for doing 300 km/h on flyover

Youtube is to blame for this growing culture, the stupendous amount of response in the form of views and likes which mostly exceed a million gives them the confidence to get away with that.

Having said that most of the better youtubers ride this fast only on proper highways but this guy has taken it to the next level, i have never seen a youtube video with this kind of riding on this kind of bike, people may do this on an r15 or pulsars at max, not that that isn't dangerous but this is next level, usually riders who own such machines are responsible and mature.

Also just out of curiosity are such speeds even legal on the highways, because a whole lot of us drive quite fast (although in our limits and no where near as extreme) but still fast on the highway, is there a possibility of serving jail time?

P.S i don't mean technically because of course even the highways have speed limits of 70-120, but generally.

The guy should have his licence cancelled and his bike crushed. Time to put an end to hoon behaviour. The other users of the road should not be endangered by this guy. Absolute irresponsible behaviour.

Re: Bengaluru Superbike Rider arrested for doing 300 km/h on flyover

The scariest part was when his speed run ended, there were 2 cars and bikes blocking the road and driving. no space to escape. if he encountered that during his speed run, there was no chance of survival.

He zoomed away immediately afterwards.

crazy!

We need more racetracks!!

Re: Bengaluru Superbike Rider arrested for doing 300 km/h on flyover

Phew, yesterday was an exciting roller coaster ride for the Indian motorcyclists community, all the whatsapp groups were buzzing with the latest happenings on this topic. Here is a brief summary of what transpired, courtesy Whatsapp news, because thats the only trusted source of news these days

1. The police announce on twitter that the rider on the Yamaha R1 who was speeding at 300 kmph has been identified and bike is seized.

2. Prominent motorcyclists on Youtube run for cover and make all their videos private.

3. Some guy defends the illegal actions of the Youtubers on Facebook.

Anyways here is the sequence in a little more detail.

19 July (Sunday) - The 1 minute 35 second long clip of the 1000cc Yamaha R1 hitting an indicated 299 kmph on the elevated expressway gets widely shared on whatsapp. The rider thankfully puts his social media watermark on the clip. How else will you know it was him and not someone else?

22 July (Tuesday) 11.20 AM - IPS officer Sandip Patil confirms on Twitter that the rider has been identified and that the bike has been seized. The move is highly appreciated by the citizens of Bangalore and other bikers from around the country.

Shortly thereafter, a Twitter user informs Sandip Patil regarding high speed runs posted by other "prominent" motorcyclists who have highly successful channels on Youtube. I did not click the link in question but I believe it was the video of the Youtubers, 10r_onsteroids and DV doing high speed runs and rolling start races against each other while hitting speeds of above 250 kmph.

22 July (Tuesday) 12.05 PM : Youtuber 10r_onsteroids has already made his videos private.

This is how it looked yesterday.

This is how it looks today.

22 July (Tuesday) 12.30 PM : Youtubers DV has already made his videos private. Look at that subscriber base - 1.99 lakh subscribers! That is a staggering figure to say the least.

This is how his page looks today.

Now many of you might be wondering why is this a big deal? Most riders I know dont watch these videos and most of you reading this are likely not to have as well. But the problem is that these videos glorify irresponsible and highly unsafe riding on highways with traffic. All it takes is one error in judgement or an unexpected decision from someone else on the road, for these joy rides to end in disaster and death.

If you still think that I am making a big deal out of some 'fun' videos, here are some screenshots from the arguably most famous video of theirs that had them race against each other in a video that went around 13 minutes.

No rear number plate on the Kawasaki as well. Aftermarket exhausts on both bikes. The channel owner kept saying that the Kawasaki was flashed with a stage 2 map so that is another after market modification. I am sure the cops will be happy to add the fines for that as well.

Some guy had to post this comment since 10r_onsteroids kept winning most of their rolling start races even after they switched bikes

I heard that the Youtuber DV had an accident and damaged his knee cap which is smashed. I hope that is not the case and that they invest in proper riding gear.

The excitement for the day was not complete though, as somebody else decided to pick up the mantle for these riders and posted a heartfelt message on Facebook as was reported on this thread. The reason for this is self explanatory, this image is from his social media page.

Well, Indians didnt hold back and roasted him last night. It certainly made for some very fun reading at the end of an eventful day.

Anyways, someone helpfully reported the post and it got cleaned up by Facebook which led to another post by the same gentleman today morning.

Reported!

Act II

The police in Bangalore have already started checking bikers on bigger bikes and are asking if they have action cameras and details of their Youtube and Instagram pages. So it might be prudent for bikers in Bangalore to hold off on weekend rides for a while now, until this dies down at least.

Where are all these so called race tracks that every saint is harping about?
AFAIK there are only 3 race tracks in India, and none of them in Bengaluru.

Re: Bengaluru Superbike Rider arrested for doing 300 km/h on flyover

There are always these fringe groups in any area who are out just to spoil it for everyone by just indulging in their own mindless senseless actions.

This is just another example of that happening and about time too. This guys and his other youtube friends have all been openly posting videos on who can hit the highest speeds on public roads and racing against each other to even upload it first.

Well from the looks of it all these "bikers" have gone into hiding removing all their Instagram and youtube videos/content. Such a shame now for the coming few months any guy riding a bike with full gears or a gopro attached is going to be facing the short end of the stick thanks to these numbnuts.

And many seem to think it's just impossible to ride at these speeds and manuveour traffic at those speeds, you'd understand once you get some seat time on these machines, it is very much possible these bikes can attack the smallest of gaps with very sharp precision but there is a choice to be made, is it worth doing all this circus just to gather a few likes and 15minutes of fame status and it is clear that is what they wanted, if not why upload the video at all, i mean if he was in it for the "passion".

This is also not going to be the end of it. This fellow is just simply going to pay a fine for rash/negligent riding and overspeeding ticket and walk off scot free with no other consequence. And once all the heat has died down, they will get back to posting this again. He is not the first to be booked for this and is not going to be the last.

Well to end it, there is a saying the "It's not the cars that cause accidents in the overwhelming number of cases. It's the loose nut behind the wheel." holds golden even for bikes, superbikes or not.

Cheers
Krishna

I was like on reading this piece of news. 300 km/h on Indian Roads? His licence deserves to be cancelled with immediate effect. Seriously we have no dearth of idiots driving/riding on Indian roads. I can't imagine what the other road users must have experienced when this chap overtook other vehicles at high speeds.
.
Actually there are so many young riders riding past 250KM/HR on the Banglore Nice road. There have been many videos uploaded by the riders themselves on their YouTube channel. After the arrest of one of those guys, everyone took their videos off their respective YouTube channels
