That is a helmet tear off. It is mostly used in endurance and dirt racing to clear the visor of insects as you say, by quickly tearing the film off. Visors are designed to handle bug splatters just fine and personally I prefer not littering public roads to cosplay a racer.

This statement is tempting me to pick up the Nirvik.
This Nirvik looks exactly like RS Taichi Drymaster Explorer, except that its not waterproof, and you need to wear a rain coat over Nirvik if it rains.

Thanks but it is not tear off film. I don't like to use tear off as well and litter our already dirty streets.

Here is the link to the product:
https://arkdisplayprotector.com/shop...sor-protector/

Perhaps, this discussion is more relevant to the Helmet thread. Will post it there

Also, which phone do you guys use for navigation? I don't want to use my primary phone for obvious reasons. Need some good, cheap phone. I checked on Amazon and frankly, overwhelmed by the number of options there. Any recommendations?

Another alternative would be to use my older Pixel 2Xl that my daughter is using. It is water proof, so no need to worry about rains!
Perhaps it is easier to get her a new phone instead!

No stock at L.A.B. as Supermoto has only Techstar7. They also offered Forma.

I've used this on my previous helmet and it was quite useful actually. So rain drops don't completely bead off, but it does help in scratch protection. I'd say go for it as its very inexpensive. Saved my visor from a big scratch once.

Actually not going to be doing major touring. Just the weekend rides within Goa or across the border into Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Quote:
The Nirvik is an excellent jacket but its meant for touring. What is your usage going to be like? If it is for riding around Goa on weekends, you are better off with a mesh jacket.
I was initially considering mesh jackets. Since the Nirvik is the top of the line model and available at a good discount, I was wondering whether to buy it. Except one, none of the RE mesh jackets come with chest protectors or even pockets for the protectors.

Oh ok. Did Enfield ever have a collab with RS Taichi?

RE had a collab with TCX for boots and Alpinestars for other gear. I remember seeing a YT Video. There was also 1 pair of gloves from this collab in the store.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

Hi everyone,
Does anyone which stores have Viaterras or Gadsyll (or any riding shoes below 10k rupees) for display and trial in Bangalore?
I usually shop for my gear at 6KIOM but their catalogue starts at 15k and I don't feel comfortable buying gear, especially shoes, online without trying them out.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

Shortlisted the following gear:

Riding Jacket
Option 1
https://www.customelements.in/produc...riding-jacket/

Option 2
https://store.royalenfield.com/en/ni...yABEgI-afD_BwE

Yes I know as some people suggested these jackets are not ideal for Goa weather but not finding a mesh jacket at the right price with all Level 2 armour including chest. Nirvik is currently on sale so similarly priced to the Tarmac.

Riding Pants
Option 1
https://www.customelements.in/produc...-riding-pants/

Option 2
https://store.royalenfield.com/en/to...40-95-cm-black

The RE Kelshi comes with Level 2 armour and is priced at 6500. The one in the link is Level 1. The advantage of the Tarmac is the Rain and Winter liners are included in the price whereas the Kelshi doesn't come with anything.

Riding Boots
Option 1
https://gadsyll.com/product/g-star-11-tourer-black/
However this is not in stock in my size.

Option 2
https://www.customelements.in/produc...-riding-boots/

Would have preferred the black but brown has more discounts.

Full Gauntlet Gloves
Option 1
https://www.customelements.in/produc...riding-gloves/

Option 2
https://rynoxgear.com/products/rynox...32124359770179

Had decided on the Rynox but the deal on the Tarmac is tempting.

Helmet
Option 1
https://www.customelements.in/produc...ow-red-helmet/

Option 2
https://www.flipkart.com/ls2-mx436-p...m3541e861dce92

Option 3
https://www.customelements.in/produc...-black-helmet/

Option 2 was available on Custom Elements in the morning but now out of stock. Option 3 was suggested by them but I don't think I'm comfortable spending 34K on a LS2. I'd rather wait and pick up one of these when I go to Europe:

https://nexx-helmets.com/en/helmets/...in/white-pearl

https://www.airoh.com/helmets/commander-2-reveal/

You might have noticed that many links are from Custom Elements. I was discussing riding gear with my friend and he mentioned that he had met the guys from this start up at an incubation centre and they have their office there. Turns out their office is bang opposite my house. Basically behind the trees in the pic which I took from my verandah.

Which of the 2 options in each category do you recomend? Or any 3rd option.

Almost certain I'm going with this. There's a sweet deal on Custom Elements. Again the internal rain liner is an issue but since the pant is cheap, I don't mind spending on an external liner.

Black was not available in my size but I WhatsApped them and they said it will be in stock tomorrow. So it's either this or the below Raida.

Wanted Black but they only have Grey/Black

Had a look at a brown pair. They didn't have my size but could arrange it. Lovely boots but the other 2 options are significantly cheaper.

Ordered.

Have asked them to check if the Red/White/Blue combo is available.

https://powersports.in/collections/m...e-riding-boots

Powersports has a bunch of outlets across town you can check. Managed to get a look at the Gadsyll 9 and 11s last time I visited the HSR branch. And I think the new Korda boots should've landed as well. You can find your closest store on their site here

Need to go pickup a pair soon too

Any actual user reviews on Leatt 3.5. I have found a piece and liked it compared to Gaerne.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

I was planning to upgrade from the RE/TCX Cabo boots to ADV boots as I have gotten more into trail riding now. The plan was to get not-so-expensive ADV boots for now and use the rest of the money to get proper MX boots later.

Solace Adventure-X boots fit this requirement quite well and more importantly, they came in brown, as I don't want the hassle of cleaning them after every ride. They also come with EN 13634:2017 2222 IPA certification that ensures that they meet the minimum safety performance requirement IMHO.

This is how they look right in the shop.

The Riding Gear thread-pxl_20240719_055034601.jpg

And here is the CE label for reference.

The Riding Gear thread-pxl_20240728_072314744.jpg

This shoe is build to a cost with not-so-great finishing.

The Riding Gear thread-pxl_20240719_055317248.jpg

Here is how they look after the break ride trail ride. There was some slush and these boots handle that much water without any issue.

The Riding Gear thread-pxl_20240720_145219813.jpg

The Riding Gear thread-pxl_20240720_145240320.jpg

And here after cleaning and using a leather conditioner.

The Riding Gear thread-pxl_20240722_032104399.jpg

The first thing I have noticed is how grippy the sole is. Now the downside of the soft grippy sole is that it will have chip-offs in case one is using pointy metal foot pegs.

The Riding Gear thread-pxl_20240727_161727799.jpg

The Riding Gear thread-pxl_20240727_161733853.jpg

Another observation is these boots have tall toe caps. These require some time to get used to upshift even after adjusting the gear lever to its max position.

But overall these shoes are very comfy and are a good buy in case one is looking for comfortable adv boots on a budget with proper certifications in place.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

I don't understand why solace doesn't market the CE 2222 IPA rating. Would make them the cheapest one on the market currently.
I'm only looking at Alpinestars during the lateral rigidity it offers. But this is no doubt a good entry option at this price. The Gadsyll brand has no such certification.

Re: The Riding Gear thread

Further refined my shopping list.

Riding Jacket

1. Tarmac Adventure Black Jacket
https://www.customelements.in/produc...riding-jacket/

Pros
- Good Finish
- Full Level 2 Proctection
- Rain & Winter Liners Included
- Hydration Bladder integrated and included.

Cons
- Rain Liner is internal
- Pricing is close to the RE Nirvik

Price at Custom Elements: Rs.10,699/-

Verdict: Rejected because I thought the price was too close to the Nirvik and I didn't really need all the features. Decided to go with a mesh jacket.

2. Scala Brave Riding Jacket
https://www.customelements.in/produc...riding-jacket/

Pros
- Full Level 2 Proctection
- Rain & Winter Liners Included

Cons
- Not a popular brand

Price at Custom Elements: Rs.7760/-

Verdict: Haven't seen or tried it but decided to finalise it as it met my requirements subject to trying it out. I even placed the order wit Custom Elements. Then I had a word with another Himalayan Owner and he suggested a proper touring jacket with ventilation instead of a mesh one as he has used both for rides in Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Kept this on hold an asked for the Nirvik.

3. Royal Enfield Nirvik V2 Black Riding Jacket

Pros
- Good Finish
- Full Level 2 Proctection
- Rain & Winter Liners Included
- Rain Liner is external
- Available at a good discount.

Cons
- Less ventilation compared to mesh jackets
- Hydration Bladder not included.

Price at Custom Elements: Rs.11000/-

Verdict: Had tried it out at the RE Showroom. Perfect fit and the discounted price makes it a good deal. Have asked Custom Elements to let me try it and then I'll take a final call thought I've tentatively finalised it.

Riding Pants

1. Royal Enfield Kelshi Riding Pants

Pros
- Good Finish
- Full Level 2 Proctection

Cons
- Less ventilation compared to mesh pants
- Not eligible for the 25% Discount at the RE Dealer
- No Liners included.

Price at RE Showroom: Rs.6500/-

Verdict: Had tried it out at the RE Showroom. Again almost finalised. The 25% discount on gear in the store was not applicable to this. However if I purchased another item to make the bill above Rs.7000/-, they were giving a duffel bag free. A search online shows it has Level 1 armour but the piece at the showroom had level 2. Decided to skip it in favour of the below

2. Tarmac Drift II Level 2 Black Riding Pants
https://www.customelements.in/produc...-riding-pants/

Pros
- Good Finish
- Full Level 2 Proctection
- Rain & Winter Liners Included

Cons
- Rain Liner is internal

Price at Custom Elements: Rs.5399/-

Verdict: Perfect fit and the discounted price makes it a good deal. Have asked Custom Elements to let me try it and then I'll take a final call thought I've tentatively finalised it.

Full Gauntlet Gloves

Tarmac Rapid Black Full Gauntlet Riding Gloves
https://www.customelements.in/produc...riding-gloves/

Pros
- Good Price for a full gauntlet

Cons
- Some YouTube reviews say the gloves deteriorate quickly

Price at Custom Elements: Rs.2999/-

Verdict: I've tentatively finalised it subject to trying out on Monday.

Riding Boots

1. Gadsyll G-STAR 11 TOURER BLACK
https://gadsyll.com/product/g-star-11-tourer-black/

Can't comment on the Pros and Cons as I have not seen it.

Price at Gadsyll: Rs.8300/-

Verdict: Was not available in black so opted for the below though kept is as a back up if I don't like the Raida

2. Raida Explorer Black Riding Boots
https://www.customelements.in/produc...-riding-boots/

Can't comment on the Pros and Cons as I have not seen it.

Price at Custom Elements: Rs.7450/-

Verdict: I've tentatively finalised it subject to trying out on Monday.

Helmet

1. Axor X-Cross Flash Dual Visor Neon Yellow Red Helmet
https://www.customelements.in/produc...ow-red-helmet/

Pros
- Good Finish
- DOT/ECE/ISI Certified
- Affordable price
- Attractive colours

Cons
- ECE Certification is 22.05 and not 22.06
- The colour I want is not available in my size

Price at Custom Elements: Rs.6983/-

Verdict: Had tried it out at another shop. Perfect fit and the affordable price makes it a good deal. Have asked Custom Elements to check if they can arrange the Red/White/Blue and then I'll take a final call though I've tentatively finalised it.

Currently my list looks like this:
- Royal Enfield Nirvik V2 Black Riding Jacket - Rs.11000/-
- Tarmac Drift II Level 2 Black Riding Pants - Rs.5399/-
- Tarmac Rapid Black Full Gauntlet Riding Gloves - Rs.2999/-
- Raida Explorer Black Riding Boots - Rs.7450/-
- Axor X-Cross Flash Dual Visor Neon Yellow Red Helmet - Rs.6983/-

Total Rs. 33831/-

Based on the approx 3.5% discount he had given me on my previous selection I'm expecting approx Rs.800 additional discount on all the items except the Nirvik which is already discounted.

Please share your opinions on:
1. My selection of gear.
2. The pricing I'm being offered.

Yup, these are the cheapest properly certified boots that are in India right now.

I feel that all Indian Gear Brands don't know what to market regarding safety certifications. They tend to concentrate on useless features while omitting the basic certifications that prove the safety performance.
