re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Yet another accident right in front of my home. NH66 follows a blind 'U' shape here and the section around the bendy part is potholed. Plenty of panic braking every day. As usual, heard tires screeching and saw this:

The Duster was closely tailing a KSRTC. Around the bend, the KSRTC sharply braked due to the potholes. Apparently the Duster didn't have enough time to react and went under the bus.

Windshield wasn't cracked. Well done seatbelts! So much for the macho bull bars though.

This is the red KSRTC ordinary with no under run protection.

Look who got stuck in Traffic! Had Middle Eastern plates.

That is a NH?

Been a long time since i took the car out to drive within Kerala. Trains are so much peaceful. My desire to burn rubber is sated on TN highways.

How did the biker get involved?

Duster - 4 tyres, <2 Tons, hydraulic brakes. Driven by an amateur
KSRTC Superfast - 6 wide tyres, ~16 Tons, air brakes. Driven by a professional.

Common sense is all that's needed to avoid tailing a behemoth that has all the braking power you can imagine. But some people have to learn the hard way.

Yup. This is an NH. And believe me this is one of the wider sections around here! There are places where two buses cant pass simultaneously.

The biker was tailing the Duster and nearly crashed into it. He was there to vent HIS anger!

Just outside Thalassery, along the Thalassery-Mahe stretch.

This kind of behaviour is usually exhibited by bikers. They tail bigger vehicles looking for an opportunity to overtake. This guy may have graduated from 2 wheeler. Old habits

Ah ok.

Been a long time since i traveled that stretch. Private buses can be a nightmare on those roads. Used to have a shop in Mahe years back so kinda used to drive from Kozhikode to there. It was bad then. I can only imagine how it must be now.

Foreign registrated vehicles are allowed for short periods upto 6 months with permission. Eg: Embassy/Consulate vehicles or vehicles passing through the country.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Happened in Dwarka, NCR.

As per eye witness accounts (maybe inaccurate) - Empty stretch, insane speeds, cow, panic braking, *overturned*.

Car is facing the wrong way. It is on the left carriageway on a divided 4 lane section. Hence, assuming, the turning over story might be true. No idea about occupants.

Haha. Welcome to Kerala. This is how majority of NH in Kerala looks like. Undivided two lane roads. Only recently many roads got converted to 4 lane. These narrow roads with many turns & inclines with heavy vehicle density and closer towns make long drives in Kerala tiring. This also causes many head on collisions.

But there are plus success too. You won't hear about many accidents at insane triple digit speeds. Because one simply cannot maintain sick speeds . Moreover, driving is less boring compared to those straight long wide NHs. As a result of which, you'll see less number of accidents due to driver falling asleep (not that it doesn't happen)

Saw this at the airport today,. Ghastly.

Is there no recourse for such governmental negligence?

Knowing how "Our Capable" authorities work, I can bet my bottom buck that this will be fixed...

..and just as sure as there will be a zillion more that will be un-attended, until the media reports another mishap/death

The problem with Indians mentality is:

Solution exists only for the immediate problem. Foresight/future planning is passé

Came across this other news report of a pot-hole caused death in Delhi:

http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/d.../1/728291.html

The DCP states that a team is out to nab the accused. I wonder who is the accused here - the tanker driver or the PWD / road maintenance agency.

It's high time potholes should be given the status of a criminal offence. Pothole on the road? Jail the engineer!

One of the headlamps was replaced, costed around Rs. 19K.

A similar incident involving a woman biker from Mumbai. She was trying to overtake a truck when she fell because of the pothole and came under the rear wheels of the truck.

Mumbai: Woman biker from Bandra lost her life in an unfortunate accident /

Quote:
35-year-old woman biker killed after being run over by a truck when she fell off her bike on hitting a pothole on the Dahanu-Jawhar road. The deceased was mother to a 9-year-old boy.

Biker Jagruti Hogale, 35, wanted "to fly", "do something different", and live her life to the fullest. And in pursuing that passion, the mother of an eight-year-old died last morning.

Requesting all fellow bikers to ride with utmost care especially in this season. It's better to imagine that we are invisible to everyone else on the road while riding to keep ourselves safe.

Also, the road conditions will be at their worse in these months with unexpected surprises even on the roads we know like the back of our hand. So please be safe & ride carefully even if you are completely geared up as all the armor we wear helps reduce the consequences from the impact substantially but in no way makes us invincible.

Mods: Not sure if there is an alternate thread where this post should go or already exists (duplicate post). Requesting you to check the need for a separate thread.
