re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

How distracted can the driver be for such accidents to happen in broad daylight.

That driver could see the crowd from far off, but he didn’t stop in time.

Annoying edit aside, this video is truly heart-wrenching. Can drivers be more stupid than this?

According to local news, there was an accident around 20 minutes before this, a car guy rammed into a culvert and that’s the reason for the crowd on the road.

As usual, as per our standard media/police protocol the cause of accident has been registered as brake failure.

The same incident has been discussed couple of pages previously. Check this.

Another close call, all because of low beam. Could see the shepherd and the goats because of the biker in high beam.

I see the implication being that brake failure was not the case and this is a coverup. Why would that be? Do we have absolutely any reason to believe that? Is it really plausible that the state machinery would act to protect a 'lowly' truck driver? Genuine brake failures also happen, you know.

Not often, and rarely on well-maintained vehicles. It is part of the mythology: just as the well-connected, wealthy criminal clutches his chest when arrested, the trucker cries "brake failure!"

Having already read the warning in a previous post of this incident, I won't watch the video, but it has been said that the driver had plenty of time to see the people. So what did the driver do about the "brake failure?" What did he do to avoid driving into that group of people?

Not that genuine brake failure cannot happen, but there are some templates that our media/police follow, maybe there is no competent authority to investigate the actual cause.

How the police/media come to an immediate conclusion of brake failure or tyre burst as the cause of an accident is highly questionable.

NHTSA National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Survey states that only 2% of all car accidents are caused by brake failure. While the brakes on modern vehicles rarely fail, it is absolutely possible. Many drivers attempt to blame brake failure instead of their own negligence when they rear-end a car in front of them. People simply do not like admitting that they made a mistake.

Sorry for going

On the contrary, I think the visibility is affected primarily due to high beams from the opposite lane.

You meant "couldn't" right? Atleast in the video it is fairly clear the high beam was blinding. Should have atleast been able to see the outline of the goats if he was on low beam.

Looks like the truck ran amok and mowed through the vehicles, that's what comes to mind when you see the carnage.

That pileup looks horrific. People should understand buying a safe car is more important so you’re atleast less affected by others mistakes. All the cars here are multi decade old ladder frame Mahindra cars. Feel pity for the Kia Sonet there.
