True. But all things have a history, and one can keep following back. It's not a big step to talk of the parental responsibility, not to mention whatever crimes they may have committed in the cover up. However, it remain a fact that the boy drank, the boy chose to drive, the boy chose to drive flagrantly dangerously, the boy killed people. Even as a juvenile, he has responsibility, doesn't he?

Can our lawyers clarify (or point me to the post if done already) what are the differences between an adult and a juvenile facing the same charges please?

Re: Underage drunk driver rams unregistered Porsche Taycan into 2-wheeler at high speed | 2 dead

The spirit of everyone seems to be fading on this incident just as I feared. There were days when home pages of many media websites and even youtube had videos on this incident.

My heart goes to out the Victims and their Families. I looked at their LinkedIN profile and couldn't control my emotions. They are just like most of us, budding young professionals with aspirations who just want to live their lives.

The huge outcry and the media attention brought a lot of traction to this case and now it has become opposite.

I really want some advocate like PC Solanki (Sirf ek bandaa kaafi hai) or Justice Chandru (Jai bhim) to take this case up Pro Bono.

Wishful thinking, I know but miracles do happen.

Really wish this Pune crash incident starts a transformational journey in our society in the way 'Serpico' effect became a catalyst for change in NYPD.

We owe it to our future generations.

Re: Underage drunk driver rams unregistered Porsche Taycan into 2-wheeler at high speed | 2 dead

All the news coming out on the family - underworld links, supari, abetment to suicide, and latest news on razing of their illegal resort - looks like the law enforcement has suddenly woken up. Didn't they know about it all these days?

And the bulldozer politics - I know multiple political parties have adopted it off late - are we going back in time as a society? Civilized societies should look at bringing someone to justice not by crude methods, but by legal means. Just doesn't give me enough comfort.

But, honestly, I think all this retribution against the family has certainly created enough pressure on them and potentially to other similar crooks to be more self-aware, hopefully.

Not a lawyer but broadly speaking a juvenile court/ trial is different as a corrective process and rehabilitation system rather than regular inmate style jail with adults.

Quoting from a article," However, the Indian Parliament, burdened by the political and public pressure generated by a barbaric gangrape case made changes as in, under JJA 2015. Viewing children through the lens of adulthood was said to, them being treated as adult criminals and tried under adult criminal justice system. Culpability was not necessarily seen as fallout of age but depended largely on the maturity of mind of the offender which was reflected by the nature of the crime committed & it was the nature of the offence committed and the circumstances of the case that would be used as a parameter to determine whether the juvenile was capable of understanding his act."
Thus a juvenile gets mostly rehabilitation measures at correction facilities than proper imprisonment or more stringent punishment.
So I sincerely hope this bugger gets tried as an adult as well has his parents and the systemic players abetting the miscarriage of justice!

Re: Underage drunk driver rams unregistered Porsche Taycan into 2-wheeler at high speed | 2 dead

I just saw a reel now that Sonali Tanpure (wife of ex Minister of Maharashtra) tell about how her son was bullied by Vedant Aggrawal. The brat didn't even leave MLA'S son, for him the victims on the bike were normal people and he has been doing all this for a long time. The only time I felt justice happened was when the public beat him up after the accident

As feared the incident is slowly dissolving on social media and only memes pop up of this which are slowing down. I hope this incident makes a change in the government and it doesn't become an old case like all the accidents a fellow team bhpian wrote. I don't expect much of justice to come now but hope atleast Vedant and other people do not repeat such accidents

Its simple. The law failed the child and the people who died. Stop trying to make fun and enjoy their pain. This is not an LOL moment.

My hear broke reading it. What a painful moment it would be for the mother to try and save at least one kid and see the others die. I hope these incidents can inspire our side society to be responsible.

In a separate case, the police showed some guts in arresting a movie actor co-accused of a murder. A stark reminder of the fault lines in our society. Was it a one-off case knowing the furore it would cause? Not sure. But, if law is applied uniformly to all classes of citizens, it can only mean we have matured as a society. I hope.

Re: Underage drunk driver rams unregistered Porsche Taycan into 2-wheeler at high speed | 2 dead

Bombay High Court has been hearing application for release of minor that has been argued by Sr. Adv Aabad Ponda. The Bombay High Court is expected to pass an order on Tuesday, and from the transcripts of argument, it is almost certain that minor will walk out.

Let us see how it goes.

"Because he is a free man" The court says this about the bail and then says "But the child is also in trauma"

Remember the old saying, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

This case as most of us knew, would also get buried and ultimately vanish from the memory of the people.

Re: Underage drunk driver rams unregistered Porsche Taycan into 2-wheeler at high speed | 2 dead

The Teen's father has ben granted bail. As much as I respect personal sentiments, I have nothing against bail being granted to the father or even the teen itself once the Police's investigation is complete and chargesheet is filed.

That is because our criminal jurisprudence says "Bail is norm and jail is an exception".

Further, no person should be behind the bars till he is actually convicted of an offence. Having a person in jail just because he is an under-trial is the worst.

The ideal situation would be to now have a quick trial and come to conclusion of guilt, but we all know that will never happen.

However, till trial is complete, putting a person behind bars for indefinite time is simply not what should happen.
