Velocity is just speed and direction. Inertia is the natural inclination to continue at the same speed and direction. In the physics classes its all mixed in with kinetic energy and stuff that I forgot since I left school, but I absolutely remember the practical aspect that makes me wear a seat belt for every trip however slow, however short.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

I think the truck driver who is driving in the right most lane should be asked to drive in the left lane. He is not supposed to drive in the right lane. This makes the car behind to move to left and overtake and causes zig zag behavior. If the car on the left lane is fast, it will either honk, flash or move a little left to continue on shoulder.

The trucks and slow moving vehicles HAVE to start driving in the left lane. It will avoid lot of zig zag and other problems.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Few weeks back I witnessed an EV doing insane triple digit speed on the nice road shoulder, just to overtake a car in the front. Better to keep away from such driver's.

Thanks for the reminder on how treacherous NICE road is, more so at night. A lost opportunity of a 3+3 highway, the 2+2 is outright dangerous with frustrated drivers aiming to drive at the speed limit (or worse). It also has a puzzlingly wide shoulder which people consider to be a lane (and the fast one at that!). I search for a median speed and cruise, sometimes even trailing a well driven vehicle ahead. Attempts to drive fast will only result in frequent braking or zig zagging manoeuvres.

As an aside, do not take karma to heart nor try to teach an errant driver a lesson (Dzire example) as it is a very thin line between holding one's lane and causing an accident.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

So many things wrong with this truck:

1. Non functional and dangling right tail lamp
2. Non working brake lights
3. Unreadable license plate
4. Bald left rear inner tire
5. Driving slowly in fast lane

This is a recipe for disaster, especially at night when these vehicles are driving or parked in unlit areas.

Everything you said is correct. But at the back of the truck it's written - MERA BHARAT MAHAAN (in Hindi ofcourse).

In India, The road user could commit every conceivable road offence and still drive with lot of pride because Mera Bharat Mahaan. It happens only in India

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

1. Keep a close eye on the police jeep.
2. At around 55 seconds, you see a reckless biker. At the same time, cops switch on the siren and begin chase.

This continues for around 5 mins.

3. At around 2.26, you can see a crowd along with the cops on the left (Guess the bikers ditched the bike and run inside a private property. (The video was trimmed to cut unnecessary runtime).
4. At around 2.46, you can catch a glimpse of the bike that crashed on to the transformer. No idea if the biker lost control or the jeep contributed to the crash.

Audio muted on purpose due to personal conversations.

A few basic but top qualities:
1. Anybody, anybody with a phone on hand while driving/riding.
2. Closed/no ORVMs.
3. Changes lanes without indicating prior.

I agree. One of the first thing that catches my eyes are the closed ORVMs. When I spot one, I become hyper careful and very mindful of their presence

Speaking on the mobile while driving, Changing lanes without prior indication, not wearing seat belt / helmet (for 4 wheeler & 2 wheeler respectively), overtaking on bridges, blatantly crossing the Yellow line, stopping / parking bang at a blind curve, honking impatiently in traffic are some of the ways, a bad driver says "See, I am a bad driver "

The most important thing missing here in the rear underride guard/protection.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Saw this argument between a black Activa driver and a hatchback lat Malleshwaram. We were walking on this road and passed by them. Not sure what was the original issue, but the activa owner stopped his vehicle in front of the car, during peak hour traffic. Single handedly stopped all traffic.

Idiotically, he left the key in the scooter. I walked by him, unlocked the Activa and moved it to the side (the position seen in below pic).

I thought he would shout at me or come running to “save” his scooter. Turned back to see - he was fully focused on arguing with the car owner. I could have ridden away with the scooter and he could have done absolutely nothing! Went on our business and a few mins later turned back to take this picture - they were still at it Thankfully the traffic had found space to pass them by.

Ah. that was a good opportunity lost (to teach a lesson to that aggressive person). You should have just removed the key from the scooter and walked away with it and stand at a distance and watch the aftermath fun.

The car has an L board on it's front windshield, so probably a newbie driver just picking up the driving ropes. As per parivahan the car KA03 NT 5119 was registered on 15th May, 2024. So it's less than a month old car with probably, a less than a month experienced driver.

Perhaps he could have made something to make this scooter person angry, but again, the car guy is a newbie, some mistakes should be forgiven. I think he might be driving very slow or not giving way to the scooter or some minor issue like that. Just guessing as a newbie could no way be a reckless driver or break road rules(that takes time to develop to go from a good driver to an experienced reckless driver who breaks the rules)

What happens now is that this will leave an indelible impression on the newbie driver and he will carry this through out his driving life.

A Bolero with 75 bhp and 1.6 tonnes of weight & drum brakes is not the ideal police car, but how often will they get into a pursuit like this - very rare. So, "chalega".

The road looked very familiar, so was curious and I looked a bit closer

The Bolero belongs to Velloor PS (Kottayam dist). So, I think it was not a random chase! That road looks so empty, may be the time of the day, but otherwise a very risky stretch for a chase!
