Kerala CM's convoy Pile up Accident -

Not sure if this falls in the "Bad Driver" category as such. Probably more like hurried, entitled and following safety protocols. Rules of the law obviously don't apply here.

The lady does not seem to be in wrong though. She was waiting patiently for her turn and had her blinkers on. Although, she could have seen the oncoming barrage had she had rear view mirrors. But her other options then would have been to stand her ground / move over to the left to let them through, both I believe would have put her in mortal peril.

I just am unable to imagine the kind of repercussions she will have to face for this.
The CM's convoy also seems to be following a bit close to comfort, given the speeds at which they were travelling.

Not following safety protocols. Social/political importance does not change stopping distances.

As I mentioned in the accidents thread, these drivers should be highly-trained professionals, for security as well as safety reasons. Sorry to see that they are not.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

I simply hate the two wheeler traffic in Pune nowadays - all of them will qualify for the bad driver award except for a few select ones. It was decent till 10-15 years ago, but post COVID there has been a "swarm" of two wheeler in the city and all of them are impatient. Just today morning, two young guys on a KTM duke were honking like mad behind me (I was on my bike) at Bremen chowk signal but I didn't budge till it turned green. Next moment after it turned green these guys overtake from the left and give me a dirty look with some expletives thrown in for a good measure They were probably looking for a fight but I didn't react anyway so they went ahead with their antics and I lost them ahead of the police checking point after the river turn. And they didn't have a rear number plate.

Suddenly in Pune, I see a lot of two wheeler with their rear number plates removed. Is it because of the traffic cameras? That people feel that they will not be captured?

Both these observations are applicable in all cities.
I see the same phenomenon in Bangalore. People were used to the free roads during covid and drive recklessly even now. Sadly, wrong side driving has become a norm.

Covering the rear number plate is to escape fines. In Bangalore, anyone can report a traffic violation through public eye. Some two wheelers either partially cover the number plate with a tape or some even remove it entirely. See this interesting video .

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

This joker parked his Hyryder in the middle of road (in the driving lane) and coolly walked across to the supermarket. This while parking was available less than a 5 minute walk away.
This is why India needs enforcement with an iron rod a la Singapore. Else these people will never learn.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Just an observation:

Been seeing car drivers and bike riders wantonly ignore signals while taking U-Turns. Almost as if they have now started believing that U-Turners have right of way irrespective of signals.

Signals are for those going Straight or Right or sometimes Left but since there is no specific signal indicating U-Turns, they can do what they want?!

Just adding on to the list of things Bad drivers do.

End rant.

I saw this video in Twitter and I am shocked by the alarming level of wrong side driving! Zoom in and count the number of vehicles still joining this mess from wrong side! We can't have traffic police in every nook and corner to catch these culprits nor we can't deploy an army of police to catch such high number of rule breakers. I bet every single violator in this video went home scott free and will repeat again and again. The only solution I can think of is to make it legal to just ram them and recover all damages from their insurance! In fact, if our third party insurance claim process is simplified and justice is served quickly, all these morons will tow the line.

I get it, our road infra is bad and we have traffic jams due to forced u turns etc. But what makes these guys think its ok to drive on wrong side??

Wrong side is quite the norm. now in India. Doubt anything can be done about this. Why people do this. Cause Indians are selfish and disrespectfull to the core. Totally self centered. Else close all median cuts. Heck people even shaft their way into a free left, wrong side. Even U - shaped ones.

I totally echo your thoughts on this. We have come to a state from which we cannot recover. Especially from this wrong side driving menace. I can't understand why people take a sharp right turn and keep going on the wrong side before moving left on an undivided wide traffic free road.

Sometimes I shudder think what will happen if the same traffic rule disobedience pattern extends to a civil disobedience at a large scale. I am not sure if I our authorities can control it.

All the reasons you said are true. On top of that may I add that there is a total lack of enforcement. The one thing that most people understand is the value of money. Fine them left right and center and all the humility and empathy will suddenly blossom in their barren hearts and minds.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Two bad riders in one commute!
This one is at the congested Kogilu cross signal where the scooter rider just sneaked his way startling traffic after the signal was green

This one is near Bagalur, where there was an altercation and a group had gathered by the side of the road. But this curious rider just veered off his road to a get a bit of the action

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

A very important lesson on why one should not keep their helmet on the bike petrol tank. This happened last week where the helmet fell on my lane, as I was going in controlled speed I did predict the helmet to roll in my lane and avoided it. This is very risky, riders by not wearing helmet not only pose threat to their lives but also to others.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

This evening in Pune: I was driving in the right lane at a very safe speed, when a bike came out of nowhere & cut me off from the right, clipping my front bumper in the process. No one was hurt, nor did the bike appear damaged.
I stopped to ask the biker (in a calm voice) why he was driving rashly, and whether he or his pillion rider were hurt. They promptly accused me of being at fault, claimed some random injury and damage, all while hurling vile abuses, and tried to force me out of the car.
Since I was with family, I told them to call the cops if they wished, rolled up my windows and drove off. They chased me for 2-3 minutes and then drove off when I took a turn.
Luckily there doesn’t seem to be any visible damage to my car, at least none that can be seen in the parking lot.
A dashcam is needed yesterday, seeing the level of insanity on our roads.

Questions for the forum:
1. Is a level tone of voice and expression of concern interpreted as weakness to be exploited, especially by the so-called chhapri segment, and is an aggressive tone the best approach to fend off false accusations and shakedown attempts?
2. Is a self-defense tool like pepper spray recommended to be carried for situations that could spiral out of control?
