Me driving from Bangalore to Cochin the coming tuesday.
Planning to take the following route.

Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Thoppur - Salem/Mettur - Bhavani - Avinasi - Coimbatore - Walayar - Palakkad - Trichur – Cochin.

Needed an update on the road condition on this route.Also is night driving advisable on this route?

Night driving certainly not recommended on the Palakkad-Trichur stretch unless you're travelling on an off-roader. The Avinashi-Coimbatore section could also be slightly dicey - especially if it's rainy.

Just a thought. Would many routes be not lost in this endless thread? Will it be better to keep kind of Major routes threads separate? Alternatively, come to think of it even in this thread, we could post with a specific Post Title to indicate the route being queried for, that way people will be able to tell quickly which relates to which.

Just a few things I would like to see in Road Updates is (I hope I will be able to contribute to some extent as well later on):
1. When, duration, season of the update
2. Experienced in which kind of vehicle and ease/obstacles faced
3. Kind of Logs to indicate more detailed view on where the road twists and turns for better or worse
4. Food, Stay, Filling Points en route etc with approx dist
5. Driving dynamics in day and night
6. Backup plans from experiences

Divert off nh47 at perundurai and go via kangeyam palladam and then back onto NH47 before l&t bypass and then onwards to palakkad.

from palakkad go via ottapalam-shoranur-wadakancheri-thrissur-nh47 route.

Avoid Mettur and stick on to Salem route itself. Also, try to avoid Trichur-Palghat during night as the road was bad 10 days back.

I would be leaving bangalore around 10pm tomorrow.So hoping by the time I would be reach Palghat it would be dawn so thinking it would be ok to drive then as it would be bright by then.

Night or day,i dont think nh47 between alathur and mannuthy
is a bright idea.there is hardly any road in and
around kuthiran.stick to ottapalam route for peace of mind

Me doing the same till Coimbatore, for the first time, early morning start. Any suggestions on refreshment stops? Any twisties along the route? Also any sections to look out for?

LoL.What a coincidence.Me driving tonight.
All I have heard is NH7 is smooth as butter and lots of dhabas and eateries on the way.Its when you switch to NH47 post salem is when the real test starts

Unfortunately even me not taking my safari.Driving a friend's swift.So probably by wednesday night I will post all the experiences with the swift.But personally I feel should not be a problem as after all its an NH.
Keeping fingers crossed.Will update the thread by tomorrow noon once I make it to cochin.
