Re: Delhi - Mussoorie : Route Queries

Roads in Mussoorie are good right upto Bhattafall, after which the traffic comes to a crawl due to ongoing patchwork for the monsoons. It is advisable to plan the trip such that you enter and exit the Mussoorie town either before 7 am (no traffic in the morning at the expense of missing the fooding at this hour) or after 11 pm (again no traffic).

Entry of vehicles is restricted inside Mussoorie town on mall road. When you have hotels booked in advance, you may be able to drive upto the hotel by showing your confirmed booking or get the hotel to arrange a pick-up cab from your public parking. An update here is that around the base of Gun Hill, bollards make it impossible to drive throughout mall road of Mussoorie. You may check the maps and see if the booked hotel is towards Library side or Picture Palace side and take a suitable route from Om Filling Station onwards.

The approach to Picture Palace side has very narrow roads and is facing a road repair since a long time . Sometimes it finds both sides jammed.

Hope you will enjoy the Monsoon trip as July 4 is the official arrival of the rains. As a matter of fact, it has been intermittently raining since last night and nights are somewhat chilly in Mussoorie requiring a light jacket. Carrying a light waterproof windcheater is advisable. You may also buy the lightweight plastic parka raincoats in Mussoorie, but I guess single use plastics are going to be banned from next week.

Re: Delhi - Mussoorie : Route Queries

Hi BHPians,
Thought of restarting this thread, any advise on the route to take from Gurgaon to Dehradun? Planning to drive down around the Dusshera weekend with the family. Google shows me two routes, one through the NE3-Muzaffarnagar-Roorkee-Dehradun and the other one is via Saharanpur so not sure which one is better to take.

To add some complexity to the entire route, the plan is to either stop either onward or return trip at Paonta Sahib (whichever is more efficient) so any suggestions would be super appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The standard route that everyone from Dehradun follows is Delhi-Meerut-Roorkee-Chutmalpur-Dehradun. You can take GMS road to Cantt area route inside Dehradun to skip traffic. If you are going from airport then it will be even better than Saharanpur route as you can skip the traffic in the heart of Delhi. The roads are great on the Meerut route; don't know about Saharanpur one.

Will recommend following route:

Delhi - DME - Meerut Bypass - Muzaffarnagar Bypass - Roorkee Bypass - Haridwar - Dehradun (Take Mussoorie Diversion before Rispana Bridge) - Mussoorie

This route is though longer than standard Chutmalpur Route, but is much faster and is minimum 6 lanes till Dehradun.

HI All, Planning a trip to Mussorie in March from Gurgaon. Is there any chance I can utilise the new Delhi Dehradun expressway to reduce my travel time?

Most of the Delhi - Dehradun Expressway is not operational yet, and is not expected to be by March. Friend who went to Doon the last weekend and returned Monday night, says GMap was showing extended travel time (over 8 hours) from Gurugram to Dehradun via the Saharanpur > Mohand route. He made it in 7 hours (excluding breaks) via Haridwar as routed by GMap, and as Aniket described...

Re: Delhi - Mussoorie : Route Queries

Good evening everyone, I’ll be travelling to Mussoorie from Sonipat next week. Google maps while going shows Panipat, Shamli, Sharanpur, chhutmalpur, Dehradun route. While returning it shows the Dehradun Haridwar Muzaffarnagar Bypass route.

Panipat to Shamli is excellent. Need opinion from members regarding the Shamli Saharanpur Dehradun route or should I take Haridwar route.
Thanks
