I will be a first timer too this time to Hanle and Tso Moriri.

What dates are you planning for?

Hi Sid,

Thanks for the inputs.
Sorry for being late as I couldn't access forum recently.

I am planning for somewhere around mid august. It was july earlier but I am planning to postpone it due to following reasons(from what I gather from this thread):
1. Peak season will be dropping. I intend to save some money(probably).
2. I can get leave much easily (not as easy as it sounds) in August rather than July.
3. I will be on a Motorcycle. So that will give the roads sufficient time to recover from snowfalls (hope I am right here).

I will upload my daywise plan soon. Hope to get some inputs from others.

Regarding your query for trip from Hanley to sarchu in a day, I found someone with the same question as mine. I too was planning from Hanle to keylong . But it seems I was being too hypothetical.

Regards,
Mohit.

Re: Leh, Ladakh and Zanskar - The Ultimate Guide

Hi Tanveer,

I have attached my daywise route plan for Leh trip.

Please suggest anything you would note is worth being rectified.

Any suggestions from anyone are most welcome.

Please do consider that my companion on this trip will be a Pulsar200NS (No modification yet).

Note: Is Kick start option a necessity? (Not available in stock).

Thanks and Regards,
Mohit.

Re: Leh, Ladakh and Zanskar - The Ultimate Guide

Hi BHPians,

We are planning a Chandigarh-Srinagar-Leh-Pangong-TsoMoriri-Manali-Chandigarh trip in first half of August for about 12days. All of us are planning to transport vehicles to Chandigarh from Bangalore and fly to start point.

Mode:
4 bikers(bullets)
1 Xylo(myself and a friend)

Xylo details:
E8 with ABS
2009 Sept model
Completed around 78,000 kms

I wanted some inputs from your experiences.

a) I would like to carry some fuel(disel for car and petrol for bikes) along the way from leh - 25-30L each. I have been reading on some of your notes that carrying fuel in jerry cans inside cabin is not good due to fumes. Is that true or is that a concern only if the jerry cans are not of adequate quality without good airtight lids? And where can i get good quality jerry cans in Bangalore? Is the composition of can different for disel and petrol?

b) While i always enjoy my drives, i am not a guy who would open the bonnet to know too many intricacies - i do get my car regularly serviced and is in a good shape! Result of this is, i dont know any car maintenance stuff(other than tyre changing) - should there be a situation. Any of you have got some tips on what are the basic stuff that one mandatorily needs to know before embarking on such trips? Any pointers? Driving wise, absolutely no issues - its just the maintenance part that i am not aware

c) If there are any bhpians in south bangalore(particularly JP Nagar, Bannerghatta road side) who has leh experience? Would be great to catch up for some tips and advice. If you know any Mahindra scorpio/xylo users having done trip in south bangalore, would be great to know

d) Any tips in general?

For car maintenance, since 3 more months are there, if there are any experts/enthusiasts who are willing to share some hands on tips, it still helps to give a try :-)

Happy weekend!

Regards,
Deepak

Zoji La pass ceremonial opening has happened. So it should be open for regular traffic around next week or so!

I am in the process of making an itinerary for my Leh-Ladakh trip in the first week of september, i have 14 days Dehli-Delhi. As per your suggestions i plan to go via Srinagar and come back via Manali. I wanted to know if i should include Gulmarg for a day & night stay or is it advisable to spend that day in Leh-Ladakh region( i have kept one day & night stay at Amritsar & Srinagar as well). Thank you once again for your Excellent work

Re: Leh, Ladakh and Zanskar - The Ultimate Guide

Any clarity on what's being enforced regarding NGT's Diesel and Petrol vehicle ban on Manali-Rohtang stretch? How are they going to provide piped CNG to locals?

Quote:
Following NGT's order, Himachal Pradesh government is set to introduce CNG buses in Manali. Over 5,000 families here who are totally dependent on taxi service are spending sleepless nights. NGT in its orders has stated that only CNG vehicles should ply on the Manali-Rohtang highway as petrol and diesel-run vehicles are polluting the fragile environment of the region. Local taxi operators are opposing the decision as nobody is familiar with CNG here.

Re: Leh, Ladakh and Zanskar - The Ultimate Guide

On the Panamik side, do we have some indicative pictures of how scenic the route is? Are there any waterbodies against which one can capture reflections of snowcapped mountains on the road to Panamik from Khalsar?

When we went to Panamik in 2009, the weather was not very good. Neverthless, the pictures on this page are mostly from that route

Hi Anshuman,

As per NGT's latest order dated 15.04.2015, only diesel vehicles are not permitted for tourism purpose to Rohtang Pass w.e.f. 1st May, 2015.

Attaching copy of NGT's order dated 15.04.2015 NGT_Order-dt.15.04.2015_ban-of-diesel-vehicle-to-Rohtang-pass.pdf

I don't think you can take rental cars via Rohtang because of the new NGT ban. Not sure about this though.

Is it possible to share more info on the new NGT ban? I thought like the ban is only for the Yellow number plates and not for the Black number plates who can proceed further to Rohtang Pass road by getting permit from the Gulaba Checkpost.
