I think its easier to look for Kaveri hotel on top of Tavandi ghat once you cross the Toll Booth at nippani. After this right for the first few kilometers you are in Karnataka but then re-enter Maharashtra and the signage is much better after this point.

Next Monday going to Goa. What's the latest on routes?

I am going from Pune to Cavelossim (South Goa).

How do I get there? Any step by step guides, especially near the end?
How long should it take me to get there? I am planning at leaving at 5am.

Thanks

I would suggest the same one I drove on recently. Pune - Kolhapur - Nipani - Uttur - Ajara - Amboli - Sawantwadi-South Goa. Pretty nice road except for a couple of sections which are being widened.

We started around 6:30am and reached Margoa by about 3pm. But this included couple of 15 mins breaks and a hour long lunch break at Sawanthwadi.

Thanks again Spadival
I am also planning on taking a few breaks like you. I plan on NOT driving too fast; 80-100kph. I want to catch some scenery if possible. What was your average speed?

Average speed same as you - 80-100kmph. Its a frustrating experience overtaking slow moving trucks on NH4, so why speed up only to slow down behind an elephant overtaking another elephant at 20kmph !!

Planning a trip to Pune this Monday. Is this route quoted by Spadival still the best? I require details on good petrol pumps and decent restaurants along the way as well.

request update on pune-goa route

Hi everyone,

Planning a trip to Goa next weekend. Request update on route to take from Pune :

Pune - Kohlapur - Nipani - Gandhinglaj - Amboli - Sawantwadi - Panaji - Margao
OR
Pune - Belgaum - Khanapur - Londa - Molem - Margao

Also if we want to go to Palolem, are the interior roads from Molem - Sanguem - Cuncolim okay.

Eagerly waiting for responses,
Thomman.

Actually some of the maps show the 'new' NH 4A road that goes straight from Molem to Khanapur (hypotenuse) instead of going through Londa (actually that plus junction a few kms before Londa, where the left road goes to Khanapur, straight road goes to Hubli, and the right road goes to Yellapur. A couple of years back when we were going through the 'martian' stretch between Molem and Londa, somebody on the road told us this is not the highway. But we missed to see a left turn at Molem that connects straight to Khanapur. But does this road really exist?

Hello folks, I am a Newbie here (just registered yesterday) and need some very quick advice. Based on the messages from several pros (moralfibre, spadival.....) I am convinced the best route is Pune-Kolhapur-Nipani-Uttur-Ajara-Amboli-Sawantwadi-Margao.

I am leaving early morning tomorrow, and will appreciate some advice on the exact directions after hitting Sawantwadi. Should I take NH17 right down from Sawantwadi to Margao, or is there a better option? Also, how long would it take to reach Margao from Sawantwadi.

Thanks. Will "Introduce myself", and send details of my trip after my return. Sorry about this urgent request.

Best ....

Just travelled (a couple of weeks ago) via Pune-Kolhapur-Nipani-Uttur-Ajara-Amboli-Sawantwadi-Margao. Uttur- nipani road is patchwork repaired and not so good.
Pune - Kohlapur - Nipani - Gandhinglaj - Amboli - Sawantwadi - Panaji - Margao is much better.
