As per my understanding, pass is not needed in Telangana. So not sure whether we need to get a pass even if we want to cross the state. I checked in the AP epass website and is asking for AP address as endpoint to apply for the pass.

AP doesn't require a pass for transit travellers.
Infact AP has removed the epass requirement with unlock 4.0.

Thats true, AP has removed E-pass system. Please do check with TN as these guys are still asking for E-pass between inter state. I heard it will get approved as they just want to track people who are travelling.

1. Best route to take from HYD to Chennai (to reach near Guindy)
2. What is the latest on E-pass requirements for AP and TN

1. NAM expressway-Ongole-Madras is the regular route.
2. TN is registration only ePass. Home Quarantine-14 days.

Any update on recent travel duration on this route?
Driving with family that includes a kid, so thinking if I need to stay overnight, if so any recommendations? Trying to avoid the stay in these times, but still asking

Yes, that is the one. It is a 8.5-9 hour drive at sane speeds, you wouldn't need an overnight stay to do HYD-MAS. If at all you need to, look for one in Ongole.

I recently travelled last Sunday from Chennai to Hyderabad and travelled on the above route. No good places for restroom between Nellore and 100kms before Hyderabad. So better choose a busy petrol bunk for rest stops if needed. Started by 5am and reached by 2:30pm.

Hello all. Planning a quick to and fro trip from Hyderabad to Chennai and back during the Dussehra weekend. This is almsot after 2 yrs since I drove this stretch. Some queries.

1. What route to take? Hyd-NAM expressway-Nellore-Chennai or the route via Cuddapah?
2. How are the road conditions in both routes and the time taken nowadays due to rains.
3. Any epass requirements in either AP or TN or on the way back?

Would really appreciate inputs from experts and those who have taken this route recently.

I travelled last month to Hyderabad and returned to Chennai this month. I took the Chennai-Nellore-Ongole-Nalgonda-Hyderabad route. The road conditions are good. I packed my own food and took only one or two rest stops. There is no much options for resting though. I was not stopped or asked for epass anywhere during my travel.

For the information of those looking at driving from Chennai to Hyderabad, I thought I'd shed some light on the route that I took and the road conditions. I drove up a few days ago.

- From the Red Hills toll gate to the border; multiple diversions due to bridges that are still under construction. There doesn't seem to be any work happening so its definitely a long term vision.

- Border all the way to the Medarametla turn off after Ongole; about 4/5 diversions and traffic slowdowns due to road works. Just have to be patient behind the slow moving trucks. Apart from this, roads are fantastic!

- From Medarametla to Pidigurula; roads are 90% ok with the exceptions of the massive and irregular speed breakers before the small towns

- Entering and exiting Pidigurala; a major P.I.T.A; narrow roads, numerous potholes, slow moving traffic, crowded town centre.

- After Pidigurula to Nalgonda, the roads are amazing and the scenery is also beautiful. There is one spot before a cement factory that its quite bad.

- Nalgonda to Hyderabad; about 50km before the Hyderabad ring road, there are multiple potholes and slow moving traffic. Be cautious of swerving vehicles.

There were absolutely no check-points on the way up for e-passes or otherwise. I'll update this post once I head back down to Chennai.

Did the trip last week....Should take 12-13 hrs and possibly earlier if you are able to avoid the traffic at Red Hills while exiting Chennai

Road blocks on Nellore Guduru naidupet sector of nh5 due to cyclone. Avoid this route for a day or 2. It’s all clear north or Nellore
