Update - all three toll gates on NAM express way ( Narketpally - Medarametla)[b] are not FAST TAG enabled, when asked when they will implement - getting different answers.

Maybe one reason is that - it's a STATE HIGHWAY and not a NHAI

Road conditions are good - Better on Andhra side.

Had taken the Hyd-Nalgonda-Miryalguda-Ongole-Nellore-Srikalahasti-Renigunta route when we went to Tirupati last month and this is our usual route whenever we go to Tirupati as well and BTW, the ladies in our family did a trip to Hyd-Kanchipuram (for wedding shopping) on this route via Chennai a couple of times last year before COVID.

We have been traveling on this route since 2015 when we went for a pilgrimage trip to TN and this is the most preferred route by my dad since the roads had become better.

And, tollgates on the NAM expressway are yet to implement the Fastag, for which we had to pay the tolls through cash.

I went until Ongole and came back - I did see barriers at AP border while entering AP, but no one asked for E-pass, no checking as well. For TN, I didn't see any barriers at Border entry.

Keep checking news, situation is very fluidic these days, they may announce it pretty soon.

Yes, you need an e registration to enter Tamil Nadu. But at a number of borders checking is not taking place. I have entered Hosur from Bangalore 4 times since the introduction of ePass / e registration, but have never been stopped even once. They are more strict with borders with Kerala and all hill district borders. E registration is auto generated and can be downloaded in 5 minutes.

I drove down from Hyderabad to Chennai today.

Took the TN E-Pass. But there was no checking at any place for anything. I drove without any issues and reached home.

Very disappointed that the entry into Chennai city is as pathetic as it was in 2019. The roads are in a bad state and the flyovers are still in the middle of construction.

Fastag was a breeze on the route. NAM is still operating on cash.

I packed a thermos of hot tea, a large bottle of water and some roti's from home. So did not stop in any restaurants or shops for refreshments.

Ongole was the fuel and toilet break.

Disappointing to hear that still the Chennai entry after Sunambukulam is still in the same shape. God knows when they will complete

There is a new Chennai Outer ring road that can reduce the pain of connecting west and southern part a little bit.

Any vehicle entering in to Telangana is now supposed to have an E-pass to enter the state. It is strictly implemented even in the Lockdown relaxation time window of 6 AM to 10 AM. Only ambulances are allowed. This is the situation as of today. So, better to procure an E pass to drive back to Hyderabad, one more news I saw on TV is entry through NAM highway is restricted for interstate travel to enter Telangana. Vijayawada to Hyderabad border checkpoint is the only way to enter the state . No idea about Kurnool border checkpost(if you are considering driving through Kadapa- Kurnool).

I drove from Hyderabad to Chennai on the 28th of March.
This was an uneventful drive with absolutely no issues.

My E-Pass request to Telangana was rejected. So I am still chilling out in Chennai with my Parents and living the bachelor life.

I'm a doctor. So I was wondering if I can show my id card at the borders? The epass website is asking for proof. What proof do I need to show to just travel to be with family, I don't understand.

Since you are a doctor, you can put up a story saying it's a medical emergency and your needed there. Further you can scan your ID card and upload them during E-pass registration. This should certainly get you the pass.
