Re: Pune to Hyderabad : Route Queries

Hi all,

Did a Hyderabad - Pune - Hyderabad for the Christmas week 24th December and 28th December with Wife, Mother and Son. Son was driving all the way till Pune and I was Driving from Pune to Hyderabad. My Machine - XUV 700 diesel.

24th December 2024
Left Ashoknagar (Himayatnagar) at 6.30 morning. Took the Lakdi Ka Pul- Tolychowky flyover - Shaikpet Flyover - Khajaguda - entered ORR at Narsingi @ 18A and exit ORR at Mutangi (Exit 3). Traffic at the hour was average and the road condition till toll road was not smooth, about 15 kms from Muthangi exit.
Had breakfast at Udipi's Upahaar on way at about 7.30. Food was good but a little pricy I thought.
Fuelled up at Jubilee Petroleum near Basavakalyan exit. The diesel price was 89.48 with 829 density. Always try to tank up in Karnataka because of Price.
Stopped at Hotel Jayshankar for Missal Pav at Lamboti at around 13.30. Too spicy for my comfort. Had Khawa Chai which they call Kunda Chai. Liked it as was unique and was having first time.
Another stop for normal adrak chai at 16.30.
Traffic started to slowly increase from Urli/ Loni and after Fatima Nagar/ Hadapsar it was seriously heavy. We were moving at snails pace and took more than 2 hrs from Hadapsar to Aundh.

Road was good all the way till we entered Maharashtra. Some of the stretches was awesome with newly laid bitumen. Maharashtra needs to improve. Most of the stretch has tire ways on the right lane. Couple of Speed breakers were not visible even on a bright day as there are no white markers on them. You get to see them only when you are near and you have option of sudden brake or break the suspension.
Was driving steadily at 80 - 100 and I got a milage of around 17 Km/ Ltr.
But over all the drive was not tiresome and we enjoyed the journey and will do the drive again if I have a day to spare.
Best luck to all in the New Year

Looks like it was a real long drive.Does not look like the 4 laning has in any way reduced the travel time between ORR Exit and Hadapsar. It is still a good 10-12hr drive from Hyderabad for the 550kms,compare that with a Shamshabad-Hebbal drive which is also a 550km drive that gets completed in 8hrs at 100kph avg speeds and breaks.15years ago when it was NH9 and single laned it used to take 10hrs to Pune and now also the same drive time, sigh

I have a 6 months old AX7L Diesel AT and I'm getting around 15.5Kmpl when I maintain study 95-100kmph, so I'm confident that its very much possible to get up to 17kmpl if we could maintain 80-90kmph. But my average mileage is about 12-13kmpl for most of my long drives since I prefer to cruse at 110-120kmph.

Touched 16.2 today on MID with speed range of 60-95 driven on single lane National highway. I believe MID is pretty accurate (bias of 0.5 kmpl when measured tank to tank).

Target is 18 kmpl

Re: Pune to Hyderabad : Route Queries

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to drive down my vehicle (Taigun 1.5 DSG) from Pune to Hyderabad in June (new job).

What is the best route recommended by anyone who knows the latest state of the roads?

Is it possible to do it in one stretch (I've done Pune Bangalore few years back in one stretch, but it was a little draining as the stretch after ~Hubli was horrible with construction throughout).

I will mostly be driving alone, so can plan with fewer stops.

Pune to Hyd is very much doable in a day. I always prefer driving down to Hyderabad for work purposes. Just be wary of cops near Naldurg fort, and keep your papers in order (Driving license, PUC, insurance, and RC). You should be fine. Roads till Solapur are good (recently did Pune - Kerala via Solapur).

Thanks for the heads up, I did read up about the permanent checking near Naldurg, and the quick way to get it done by showing the PUC upfront

My car is still new (< 1 year old), but I will still get it done - all papers are in order so hope should be a smooth drive.

I recently did Pune to Hyderabad in the last week of April. It took me about 8 hrs of driving time and one hour of halts (3 breaks for breakfast / tea / fuel stop)

Left at 5:30 am from Kharadi (Pune) and reached Nallagandla (Hyderabad) around 2:30 pm

Roads are good mostly. At a few places slight diversions are there due to flyover construction work. Naldurg bypass is open for traffic and that saves a bit of time as well.

That's really good time - Google Maps usually shows me 11-12 hours, so if it was 8 hours of driving time, sounds great!

What is the route you took - I will have to start from Kalyani Nagar in Pune and head near Narsingi, Hyderabad.

This is the route I took,
Kharadi - Indapur - Solapur - Naldurg - Zaheerabad - Hyderabad

Few things to note
1. Google Maps generally shows the old Naldurg route and not the bypass. Make sure to take the bypass, just follow the traffic and you would be on that bypass
2. Get on the ORR at Patancheru near Hyderabad, that will take you directly to Narsingi
3. Google maps shows more time because of the traffic while exiting Pune and the traffic while entering Hyderabad. I skipped the Pune traffic, since I left early in the morning. A few kms before ORR entry near Hyderabad, the traffic increases due to road widening work. Luckily I passed that around lunch time and traffic was relatively less (may be the trucks would have stopped for their lunch :P)

Happy and Safe travels to you
