re: Scale Models - Aircraft, Battle Tanks & Ships

Don't know how I missed this thread!

I am restarting my hobby of collection model planes after 14 years

I just ordered a 1:200 Airbus A380 online from https://www.flightmemory.com/

Total cost is about €43.52 including shipping. Does anyone know if I have to pay customs duty on top of this?

I also ordered an Boeing 777 and Airbus A340 from Aliexpress.com for about $50 total, do I have to pay customs on that also?

When I have done this the courier chap typically calls, informs of the customs duty in INR and collects it at the door step at time of delivery. As the amount here is less than INR 12,000 in each case you may not be required to pay anything at all. Please post pictures when the aircrafts arrive.

Thanks for the info. I saw on Amazon.com if I order model planes from the US I have to pay customs duty even if the plane costs INR 2-3k, hence I was a bit apprehensive.

I bought the below Lufthansa 747-8 from duty free at Munich and the Air Lingus A320 onboard a flight from Dublin. Both are 1:200 scale.

My favourite model is the Lockheed Constellation L-749 of Air India International named Malabar Princess. The first international flight by an Indian carrier was undertaken by this aircraft, Bombay-London in 1948 with Capt. KR Gazder in command. Sadly this aircraft was lost, in 1950, in a crash in the Alps near Mt. Blanc.

There is Lockheed Constellation on display at the Naval Aviation Museum at Goa: Lockheed L-1049G was originally delivered to Air India in 1955 and named "Rani of Ellora". It was transferred to the Indian Air Force in 1961, then on to the Naval Air Arm in 1976 and finally retired in 1983.

This plane is now refurbished and appears much better now.

In my eyes the 747-8 is the most beautiful version of the iconic 747. Thank you for sharing. Please put up more photos of your collection.

Presently, where I live, those two are all I have. I stopped collecting 14 years ago and ones I had that time are collecting dust at my parent's home in Lucknow.

On order are a A340 and 777 from Aliexpress and a A380 from Germany. Will post them when they arrive.

Ah yes the Mig-25. When I was a child I only collected military aircraft but for some reason now I have started collecting only civilian aircraft.

I guess I will have to eventually restart, but right now busy completing my Airbus A320 to A380 series and Boeing 737 to 787 series.

Thanks.

I went thru you collection from Page 1, its seems you have a big one.

Do you collect at a particular Scale or Scales?

For example all my airliners are 1/200 scale.

Sorry, replying to a very old post but:

Spicejet 737 is available for sale, in fact from Spicjet itself:

http://www.spicejet.com/spiceshop.aspx

Available in 2 sizes (1:100 is the larger size):
1:100 scale model manufactured by SkyMarks: Rs.9,499. These are high density snap-fit replicas with very high level of detail, including rubber tires and engines with fans that spin. Comes with wooden stand with a special commemorative plaque. Shipping and delivery charges: Rs.500

1:200 scale model manufactured by GeminiJets: Rs.6,999. These are diecast metal scale models with high level of detail. Includes wheels that spin. Shipping and delivery charges: Rs.200

Just that they are way out of my budget, especially when you can get these abroad for 1/5th the price.

Or were you talking about the Boeing 737-MAX specifically ?

I collect in all sizes but most generally in 1:48, 1:72. I keep them in a glass cabinet at office and one at home. Some which have been damaged are kept in a cupboard for some future time when I can sit and repair them.

Thanks for this heads up. Will check it out. In my earlier post I was referring to the MAX which is depicted in the photo.

Boeing 787-9 of Air France. Scale 1:200. Plastic model. About 13" long. Tail number F-HRBA. Range of 7000+ nm with a typical load of 280 pax. Total orders on hand 1278.

Scale Models - Aircraft, Battle Tanks & Ships-img_20170916_085634.jpg
The 787-9 maintains cabin pressure at around 5000' equivalent instead of the more usual 8000' that is standard in all other airliners. This leads to a lesser fatigue level for passengers.

F-HRBA in real life. The small tail and the nose remind me of the de Havilland Comet.
