Re: August 2018 Kerala floods! Help Kerala

Sad how the nation and the media has sidelined a disaster of this scale. Posting some pics for awareness of what is going on in Kerala and some parts of Karnataka -

Look at our own forum !!! Sad.

@Mods:
Kerala floods may not be an automotive forums cup of tea, and I'm sure it didn't even get a fraction of the media coverage it deserves. I'm thoroughly disappointed that team-bhp has not even bothered putting this up in the home page.

Come on, this is more important than loss of great leaders. Much of a state is still deep under water, with people taking refuge in the terraces of their homes with no food, water and power supply. Mass evacuation is in process round the clock.

Speaking in terms of numbers, around 200 have already been reported dead, 1.5 lac people are displaced from their homes and are living in the 2100 relief camps operating throughout the state and roads of over 10,000 km damaged. Around 35 of the 40 odd dams (many of which are beautifully interconnected) are operating beyond their full reservoir level to contain the flood by reducing the spillage, and to add to the worries landslides are happening everywhere. Heck the Kochi International Airport is under 5ft water, and is shut till 26th.

Please let the news spread. The state needs help. I'm volunteering in one of the nearby relief camps. The rains have abated a little, but the situation is still bad.

New numbers, sadly -

The death toll in the flood-hit Kerala has jumped to 324.

Around two lakh people are living in relief camps across the state and a red alert was sounded in all 14 Kerala districts. All three wings of the armed forces have been pressed into action for a massive rescue operation.

We request everyone to support through CM's distress relief fund. Account details are available in one of the previous posts. Paytm have option to send donation to CMDRF.

You can send relief materials through amazon as well.

Is there any relief material collection points in South Bangalore (Ecity area)?

PS: Above data not verified.
PPS: Our employer has been interacting with 'Habitat for Humanity' for assistance in relief operations.

Having seen a flooding situation at mom's home in Chennai, this alarming situation is giving me creeps and sleepless nights. I cannot fathom how the stranded people are coping up and as parents/ guardians, managing children's wellness. Hope they get rescued sooner into a safe shelter with sufficient food and essentials.

May Lord have some mercy!

The automotive picture will emerge once the flood waters recede and the threat on life has passed. The state popularly called as 'Mods own country' on the forum will lose many modified gems.

Specially in places like Kuttanad, Aluva and Chengannur - there is no hope for cars now - even SUVs and buses are under water. This will see a loss of higher numbers than the scale reported during the Chennai floods of 2015. Hope insurance companies and manufactures lend some support to the people who have lost all their belongings (including the vehicles) in this flood.

Re: August 2018 Kerala floods! Help Kerala

Since many private associations/group have taken up relief operations, most of the stores/supermarkets are completely empty (Milk - tetra packs, rice, biscuits, vegetables etc). And more people are joining these camps daily (I did visit 3-4 camps yesterday and the crowd was unbelievable.

So request all to contribute/support generously. The situation is really critical.

I was able to escape the water rise in time. Went to help evacuate my cousins - water was below the headlights when I went, 20 mins later it was at bonnet level and 2 days later the water has reached the second floor of the apartment building.

Re: August 2018 Kerala floods! Help Kerala

Hope the rain abates this week as predicted and give a respite to Kerala and Kodagu.

Something that beats common sense and costs lives is - why does rescue mobilization start AFTER a disaster of this nature? People would have known before hand - atleast half a day in advance about the planned opening of the dam gates.

We as lay men residing away from affected areas can do our bit by donating to NGOs and brave people reaching out to the affected.

Amazon is running a campaign where NGOs have added their immediate needs to help the affected people.

It's been raining from yesterday night. Sad to see that many people still don't have any idea on the situation of Kerala. Only when the PM landed, national media started covering the issue. My uncle who is with me now (he is based in Delhi) started receiving calls from his colleagues from the govt today morning asking about the situation. They had very little knowledge about the seriousness of the issue.

Most premium hotels have now slashed their rates to accommodate the needy. Few of my cousins have moved to these hotels.
