Default August 2018 Kerala floods! Help Kerala

Kerala is in the midst of an unprecedented flood havoc. The calamity has caused immeasurable misery and devastation. Many lives were lost. Hundreds of homes were totally destroyed and many more were damaged. For the first time in history, 35 out of 39 dams in the State had to be opened. Never before had the State witnessed a calamity of this scale.

It is said to be the 2nd worst flood affected Kerala since 1924. More than 15 bridges collapsed, over 10k kms roads damaged, apart from the lives lost, landslides, and damaged houses. The estimated loss is over ₹8300 crores. Currently, all the 14 districts of the State are under red alert. The rain hasn't been stopped for the last 24 hours in many part of the State.

It is our duty to help the affected rebuild their lives. The path to recovery can be long & arduous, but you can make a difference by joining the rebuilding efforts. Contribute generously to the Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).

The details for the same are given in the CMDRF website.
Website link

Although Team-BHP is primarily an automotive community, due to the immense popularity of the forum around the world and its discussion on diverse topics under the Shifting gears section, I am creating a thread for the above cause.

Please update the thread with the road and rail conditions as well.

Default Kerala Flood situation - Travel advisory and information

As most of you are aware, Kerala is facing one of its worst flood situation in recent times. 12 of its 14 districts are on red alert and almost every dam in the state has opened their gates.
Given this being the situation, travel is disrupted and not safe.

There are many an amazing humanitarian gestures that has emerged in this difficult situation as well.

Showing the true spirit of passionate motorists, a group of off-roaders have made themselves available to partner in the rescue mission.

The “Jeepers”, as they prefer to call themselves, have joined the public effort to rescue residents marooned on houses in inundated neighborhoods.
The group can be contacted to carry out rescue operations in Trivandrum city such as evacuation of people, recovery of water-logged vehicles, delivery of food or consumables to flood affected homes among others.

Justin Joseph drops the following request:

Quote:
To help with relief operations in Kerala, the different district relief managements have requested 4x4 owners to co-ordinate with them in reaching hard to reach rescue locations.

The different emergency numbers can be reached using this URL: https://keralarescue.in/district_needs/ Respective district collector's office or collectorate numbers can be reached to extend this help. Thank you Justin

Another option for those who wish to help towards the Kerala flood relief activities.

Saw this in the newspaper earlier this week and happens to be an effort by a NGO run by a Bhpian

Friends in Kochi are coordinating with "Anbodu Kochi" and have been buying and delivering essentials to them.

Modern Breads are pumping out bread stocks and are available in bulk from their unit.

The first hand stories from friends across the state is scary and heart breaking to hear :(

Group from Bangalore who is involved in the relief work needs volunteers.

I am quoting them
"Guys, 3 vehicles with relief supplies heading from Chennai -> Blore will reach Vellore or thereabouts around 8pm. The team coordinating this has had no sleep for 36 hours. Need 3 volunteers + 1 car/driver to go relieve them from there so those vehicles can be driven into Blore from there. Anyone free/game to do this? I'm on standby to head to Coorg tomorrow."

If someone is willing, please PM me and I will pass on the contact details.
