The Platform: (Netflix)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8228288/

"A vertical prison with one cell per level. Two people per cell. Only one food platform and two minutes per day to feed. An endless nightmare trapped in The Hole."

Quite an interesting premise so we decided to watch this. Pretty disturbing at times and makes one think.

Not for the faint of heart.

3.5/5

The North Sea (on Prime Video)
Norwegian Movie

https://www.primevideo.com/detail/0K...M05XI1TKAWKZ7R

I watched using subtitles, later realised it did have English audio track. But nothing missed.

A disaster movie where a woman goes through hell and high heavens to save her boyfriend. This is how a female centric movie can be made without turning her into a cringy Hollywood style feminist superhero. Very natural acting by everyone.

And here is the crazy part, it has no bad guys. Just nature going nuts, and everyone tries to help out. Even politicians and oil executives were doing the best they can.

Its a 'sub-marine' movie but doesn't have the military subs you may be looking for This is based on oil rig disasters like the 'The Deep Water Horizon'. English version of 'The North Sea' is titled 'The Burning Sea'. A good binge watch I would say.

Thanks for this, I was looking for a Scandinavian movie/series to watch ever since my mind got blown by the Norwegian 'occupied' series!

Re: The Foreign (non-English) Movies thread (no spoilers please)

A very simple arabic movie based on a road trip with siblings driving from Riyadh to Abu Dhabi.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt18500680/

En-Route the encounter a mad driver.
Is it road rage or something more sinister?

I enjoyed watching this movie and frankly did not expect it to be so good.

Hellhole (Netflix)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt19724142/

Found this while browsing Netflix and decided to take a risk watching it.

Loved the dark atmosphere which really alleviated the doom and gloom feeling.

2.75/5 for me.

Watch if you have no other horror movies to spend your time on

Re: The Foreign (non-English) Movies thread (no spoilers please)

Continuing my journey into the rabbit hole of foreign horror movies, ended up watching this gem of a horror movie last night.

Incantation (2022, Netflix)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt18968540/

"Six years ago, Li Ronan was cursed after breaking a religious taboo. Now, she must protect her daughter from the consequences of her actions."

A simple summary but the movie was gripping thanks to the dark gloomy atmosphere and at many instances I had goosebumps!

A few jump scares that you can expect but overall one dark dreary gloomy scary movie!

3.75/5

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Just watched "The North Sea" on Amazon Prime. It is a Norwegian movie dubbed in English. It is an absolute 5/5 for me and really good.
It is about an Oil Rig accident.. won't say more as it will spoil the suspense :-)

More has been said, there is no spoiler since it is not a suspense movie. It is a disaster/rescue movie.

Re: The Foreign (non-English) Movies thread (no spoilers please)

Troll (Norwegian):

This was on Netflix and was recommended over at the English movies thread.

It was a fun enough watch just wish that they had dwelled a bit more on the mythological aspect.

3.5/5

Good time pass.

The Miracle (Turkish):
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3138782/

Again on netflix, this came as a recommendation while browsing through the app. One happy feel good movie. Drags a bit here and there but overall a pretty good watch.

This was a nice line in the movie:
"Some people have eyes in their hearts. They see the world through those eyes. They see everything through those eyes."

3.5/5

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Movie : Memories of Murder [2003]

About : In a small Korean province in 1986, two detectives struggle with the case of multiple young women being found raped and murdered by an unknown culprit.

My verdict : The kind of movie that leaves an impression and haunts you for quite sometime. The soundtrack is awesome and the acting and plot is top notch. Mind you, it's not your typical investigation thriller. Bog Joon Ho hit it out of the park with his unconventional style of storytelling. The ending of the movie is really haunting considering the circumstances in Korea at the time when the movie was released. A must watch for murder mystery lovers.

My rating : 4.5/5

The Summit of the Gods -9/10 - Must watch.

Just chanced upon this movie while browsing through Netflix and it turned out to be an amazing experience. It is an animated movie about a journalist who goes in search of a climber who went missing and the drama than unfolds. The animations and graphics are truly world-class, an absolute must watch for people who like this genre.
