Thank you, this was my point exactly. Also, there are some software engineers who aren't gaming the system. ;)

Yes, the system has worked remarkably well for us so far. :)

I'm not sure I fully agree to this. |
And the magic of democracy is that you don't have to. :)

They travel because there is no facility in their villages. Hospitals are not perishable consumables like vaccines, so the analogy doesn't hold true. Also, villagers who don't have access to internet, or read English, are disadvantaged in this 'fastest finger first' race.
Anyway, we all have our opinions and morals.

Analogy was for the point about locals' agitation being "justified". That way, anything can be justified, differential road taxes, reservation for locals, everything. One can even say that Pune people should get the vaccination before anyone else, as SII is located there! Don't know where this will end (Balkanization of India to the point everyone is local in "their" area and no outsider is allowed?)
No one is privileged here. Unlike politicians, movie stars and cricket stars who can get vaccination anytime they want, rest all of us are going through the system that is in place - you keep checking the availability slots, book one if you find any and then go and stand in the line for your turn. What's immoral in that?
I am not in a position to hold lofty, dubious moral standards, nor will I judge yours (or anyone else's for that matter).
By the way, young population in Indian villages are quite used to of online "things"(that I am telling about North India, South would be even more so, considering better literacy levels). Rural people are posting online videos, youtube channels, buying through Amazon/Flipkart and what not. For older people not well versed with internet, there are walk-in vaccinations anyway.
Everyone is not a software engineer, but most of us are quite "Internet literate" :D
About the whole "gaming the system" thing with vaccine registrations, let's not start blaming/judging each other. The real blame is with the amazing government that has managed to mess up something as simple as ordering enough doses to cover our population. What does it achieve if we just start quarreling with each other? While personally I don't see the point in driving 50, 100km whatever to try and get a shot (and mentally I've pretty much accepted that till this year end I probably won't get a shot, most states are still "thinking about floating tenders for vaccines" so we know how long a typical government tender takes!), the reality is that if the system allows it, it allows it. We all have the advantage of our relative prosperity and education to benefit from the system in so many ways. This is just one additional way. Some will use it, some won't.
Anyway, with states looking at getting their own vaccines, and the media quickly picking up on people heading out of their way to get vaccinated elsewhere, it's only a matter of time before "local address proof" and "our state/district vaccines only for our people!" become a reality. Along with all the attendant loopholes, bureaucracy, verification, hassles, babudom, local jingoism etc. How much more can we mess this up. Keeps getting better.
My parents experience at Apollo Jayanagar for vaccination.
My mother went to Apollo Jayanagar hospital in Bangalore today for her 2nd shot (Covishield). It's been more than 4 weeks since her first shot. When she received her 1st shot she was told to get her 2nd shot between 4 and 6 weeks after the first. But today at Apollo they refused to give her a 2nd shot. They claim that there are new rules that the 2nd shot needs to be taken only after 8 weeks.
The whole vaccination process was extremely badly organised. They first asked all age groups to stand in the same line. After a while, they started issuing tokens to those who had come for their 2nd shot. There was a rush to obtain the tokens, without any social distancing. After my dad somehow managed to get a token, they stood in line again, only at the very end to be told that my mother cannot get her 2nd shot today since it's not been 8 weeks as yet.
Anybody else encountered this new rule of 8 weeks waiting for 2nd dose recently?

I don't think it is case of waiting one's turn. There is no
turn: it is our turn as and when we make a successful booking and turn up to find the vaccine ready for us.
(just an observation/opinion. I'm over 60, and got both my shots easily before everything started to collapse more recently. So I have no bone to suck in the game.)
After close to a dozen tries on the CoWIN website, I managed to get a slot luckily for paid vaccination for the 18+ group. It was scheduled for today morn between 9 - 10 AM at Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, Tharamani.
Left home around 7:15 AM anticipating blocks and cops stopping the vehicles but reached the hospital without a fuss at 7:35 AM. At that time obviously, I was the first to reach.
Very well organised. We were waiting in chairs kept outside. The forms were numbered and distributed to everyone. They accepted payment only by cash. Luckily there’s an ATM machine inside the main building and it had cash.
They started calling us in groups of 10 around 9:10 AM and we were made to wait for about 20 minutes. They did not however check the BP or other vitals before the vaccination. The vial’s number is noted into their system.
Received the vaccination card, termed “passport” too.
The place was nothing short of a 5 star hotel. This was my first visit to one of the Apollo hospitals.
There’s a pharmacy inside the main building. Got a digital thermometer from here.
Had a good experience all in all.
Good luck to everyone. Please do check for slots randomly on the website.
Hi, Im not sure if its allowed. Can you call them. Theyre very helpful

Hi, you didn't have to do CoWin registration for second shot? Is Walkin allowed for first shot as well? |

What?? Just today my wife was telling me that if the 2nd dose is not taken within 8 weeks, it will be considered 1st dose. :Shockked:
My 8 weeks will complete on May 21st. So I am frantically looking for slots and finding nothing in entire Udupi district for 45+ category.

My 2nd Dose of Vaccination (Covaxin) is due on tomorrow and twice my appointment in COWIN website has got cancelled and currently there is no availability of vaccination centre admininistering Covaxin for around 45 Km from my place (near Kelambakkam) as per COWIN website. Looks like the Vaccination centres simply marking themselves as 'Booked' as I have never seen them opened in the last 2-3 days.
Do not know whether to blindly go to the vaccination centres without appointment and whether the police will allow the vehicle as there is a lock down here until 24th of this month. |
If you don't mind going for approx. 15 kms, there are 36 slots available in Gleneagles Global hospital, Perumbakkam for 45+ category, however it is paid, as I type this post now.

Don't worry as it seems to be incorrect news.
A senior health official has confirmed that a delayed second shot still not restart the clock.
https://m.timesofindia.com/city/pune...cuNSWJGe-OPXut
So a few states have started putting the brakes on an already slow moving vehicle wrt the 18-44 age group.
Delhi: No Covaxin stock/vaccination put on hold for 18-44 age group (
link)
Maharashtra: No stock/vaccination put on hold for 18-44 age group (
link)
Karnataka and a few others were already starved of stock so I guess overall the push seems to be focus on the 45 & above age group for the next few days/weeks.
Karnataka stopped the vaccination for 18-44 age category in Government hospitals starting 14th May and the already booked slots will be stand cancelled. This is to have enough supply of vaccines for 45+ age group.

That is not correct. Assuming you have taken Covishield first dose, it stays good upto 12 weeks. I have gone through the findings published in Lancet about efficacy of AstraZeneca/Covishield vaccine and it shows the efficacy actually goes up, if you take 2nd shot between 8 to 12 weeks. Don't panic and do not believe misinformation.
Any clue about the Russian Vaccine "Sputnik" which was recently received in India.
Not hearing anything about it, nor has the vaccination process started.
