Just managed to get a slot for the 17th at Apollo Hospital, Modern School, Sector 7 Vashi. However, I can't find any Apollo Hospital at sector 7 Vashi on Google Maps, just Modern School. Is it just a camp set up by Apollo Hospital in the Modern School premises? Does anybody have any experience of this venue for vaccination? |
To answer my own question, the Apollo Hospital, Modern School is a camp set up by the hospital on school premises. The venue is located in a very quiet lane with ample parking. Everything was managed quite well. Our slot was from 10-12 in the morning. We reached there by 0915. We were handed a form by the security guy mentioning our numbers as 6&7. He then politely asked us to wait in our car and walk-in only at 10 am. We did and the vaccination was done by 1015.
Sharing my update after taking our second shot of Covaxin today at Manipal clinic, Jayanagar (Bangalore)
Manipal clinic uploads slots on Cowin portal everyday for the next day. Typically they have 100 slots. These slots get taken with a few minutes, so it is very difficult to make an appointment. Our second dose was due on May 17. Logged into the portal at 16:50 on 16th and kept checking every couple of minutes. Nothing was posted until about 17:06, 17:07 but when I refreshed the portal at around 17:10, it showed up as fully "Booked" in red!
We stopped by the clinic on 17th morning and inquired with the officials. They insisted that they'll not take any walk-in and we've to go with appointment. Of course they appreciated our sob story about the portal but per them others are managing to book their slots.
So, logged in again on 17th evening around 16:55 or so and started refreshing the site every other second (yes, almost continuously clicking on the search button). Nothing showed up for 18th until about 17:10 and I was about to give up but decided to continue for a couple of more minutes. All of a sudden the clinic showed up in green with 100 slots availability. Immediately booked 2 slots (one after the other) and felt relieved and accomplished! Booking itself is pretty straightforward and quick, pick your slot, enter the captcha and click on confirm. Only inconvenience with their recent portal update is that you'll have to do it for each member separately.
Went today at 13:30 and got the vaccine by around 14:45. They were turning away all walk-ins (there were many). Several of them were still waiting hoping for some luck in form of cancellations or extra doses after fulfilling booked lots. I hope some of them at least got lucky.
In summary, have a good internet connection, log in a bit before 17:00 and click away (pin code to search for Manipal clinic is 560078) every second. If you miss clicking for a couple of minutes, you may end up not getting the slot. Both times I noticed the upload happening around 17:10 but start before 17:00. I am sure I am missing something about this process, because I find it incredible that everyone who turned up there today have been on the same clicking frenzy to get their slots. But, that is what worked for me.
On 17th, we had attempted a walk-in at Manipal hospitals on Old Airport road. They had run out of stock. Though there seemed to be some confusion amongst the staff, they finally confirmed that they are ok with walk-ins if and when they get new stock which they estimate to be around mid this week. So that is another option you can try. I was not able to see this listed on the portal (pin codes to try are 560008 and 560017)
Another option for Covaxin is BGS Gleneagles, Kengeri. They too had run out of stock over the weekend and is expecting fresh stock this week. I don't recollect looking for this on the portal but came to know of it through general media.
Besides these, there are various PHCs listed on the portal but almost all of them are always in the fully "Booked" status. I've not been able to figure out when they upload new slots and how soon they run out.
Hope this helps some of you.
Greetings,
Need advice from fraternity..
It's the same story for a rule abiding citizen.
My wife is a government doctor. She's vaccinated.
But I have not asked nor broke any rule to get myself nor parents vaccinated.
I wanted to do the right way.
Book a slot on CoWIN and get the jab.
But now I'm tired of spending the time infront of the computer or on my mobile to book a slot.
Night and day. I'm doing the same thing. Hooked on to CoWIN site.
Unfortunately im not able to book any slot.
It may sound absurd but why don't I book a slot in a state where it's available. For e.g coonoor or the Nilgiris. It is available there as I checked many times.
It's not like a holiday but a drive to the hills to get the jab.
Is it advisable?
Please suggest.
Please find the attached to see how many a times I have tried. This is in addition to the times I have tried without logging in!!

Please don't. While we understand your good morals and intentions, this is not the right time or right way to showcase it. The government has raised their hands and not caring for us citizens. We are all on our own and if possible, helping out each other.
Get yourself, your parents and your immediate family members vaccinated ASAP, using your wife's position/contact's.

My friend created the under45.in website for getting timely alerts as and when vaccine slots open up in your district. Why don't you try it? It helps you sign up to district-wise groups in the Telegram app and alerts are sent as and when availability opens up. I haven't used the site myself but my friend is getting rave interviews with NDTV etc because it is so damned useful!

Yes. Look at this way. To be a good doctor, your wife needs to have you well too.

Leave aside whatever moral issues there may or may not be, and personally I don't think there is any immoral aspect to getting vaccinated when and where you can- the entity that should be feeling immense guilt is the wonderful government that screwed up something that was supposed to be our one strength in this whole mess - making/getting.enough.vaccines!
But practically, does it make sense to travel long distances to try and get a shot? Is interstate travel going to be allowed to get a vaccine shot, you can show your appointment and that will be ok for inter-district travel, but will the cops be ok with inter-state? What if you get an appointment and reach the vaccine center only to be told the doses are done for the day? Long drive back.

These exactly are the reasons why I'm putting off my idea of travelling, especially the last one.
Even if I fail to get vaccinated, at least I will be blessed with a long drive.
Did any bhpian go on a Vaccine Drive (Oh this sounds like something which our government is failing to accomplish).
What I meant was a Long Drive to Get Vaccinated :)
The overall daily vaccinations in India seems to be coming down from 2-3 million to 1-1.5 million vaccinations. Any particular reasons? Are even Covishield/Covaxin doses drying up?
My Vaccination Story (Chennai)
With the Covid vaccination now available for 18-45 age group, I had to get it done for a simple reason. I really enjoy my ability to breathe and staying alive.
How:
1. CoWin App: Never got the OTP to log in.
2. CoWin using Browser:
https://selfregistration.cowin.gov.in/
3. Aarogya Setu: OTP comes every time and you can register for vaccination.
Booking:
There are multiple Telegram Channels that inform you about slots becoming available. But there is so much demand for these slots that you will never be able to book the slot if you are busy tracking the channel. Slots fill up in mere microseconds.
This approach worked for me. It may or may not help you.
Login to Aarogya Setu on the mobile phone and CoWin website on the laptop. Every few minutes keep checking if there is a free slot. Select 18+ and paid in the search filters. Both the app and browser have a timeout that will strike at any point of time. So it’s best to logout and login before you search.
Don’t give up.
I had at least 3 instances where there were free slots but by the time I entered the captcha, they were gone. It took me a couple of days before I was able to get a slot.
The Vaccination:
My booking was at Apollo. Took a scooter instead of my car. There is limited parking and it makes no sense wasting time looking for a free spot. There was a queue with barely any social distancing to fill up an entry form. They had sanitizers. I used that liberally on my hands every few minutes.
Double masking is highly recommended. Carry exact change for vaccination or a touchless credit card. Sincerely thank everyone who is at the hospital. From the parking attendant to the nurse who is injecting you. They are our front line warriors who are literally putting their health on the line for us.
Get vaccinated as soon as its available in your city.
If given an option, should one go with Sputnik or Covaxin? I am asking that because I might have one. While my office might provide either Covidshield or Covaxin, my wife's office has made a deal with DRL and will be giving Sputnik.
Now, I'll simply pass the Covidshield because of the 2-3 months gap. If my office provides Covaxin towards the end of the month or my wife's office provides Sputnik towards the middle of June, I think I can choose.
This is not the desired situation and I might have taken ANY, but here I am.

Which Apollo was this? I have to vaccinate my son. What vaccine was given?
My wife and I took Covishield at our nearby GH on March 28th. They have given a slip mentioning second dose as due on May 22nd (8 weeks). Subsequently the same GH people began to conduct a vaccination camp at a nearby school for the past one month. Which I heard operates daily and is much better than going to the GH again. I also read the second dose is now pushed back to 12-14 weeks for Covishield.
So yesterday I sent our watchman to the school with the slip when he went home for lunch, to ensure if we could go on the assigned date. He came back and told me they said we should report for vaccination on 22nd June instead as per current rules.

The trouble is I never get OTP for 4 out of 5 days (yes days not just retries) from the Arogya Setu App. I dont know if its a problem with my Airtel SIM or something else because this happens only for certain critical transactions like logging in to Bank but not for many shopping transactions where OTP is required.
