Please don't. While we understand your good morals and intentions, this is not the right time or right way to showcase it. The government has raised their hands and not caring for us citizens. We are all on our own and if possible, helping out each other.
Get yourself, your parents and your immediate family members vaccinated ASAP, using your wife's position/contact's. |
Greetings,
Following the advice of my fellow bhpian's and after much persuasion by my better half, I have got my mum and dad vaccinated with Covaxin just now with the help of a family doctor in a super speciality hospital.
Thank you all for making me think rationally and guiding me to do what's best for family.
Regarding me, I'm waiting for the availability of vaccine in Telangana.
Stay Safe.

The timeout is at 15min, but can be shorter by few seconds due to the time consumed to enter the OTP. I have used a 14 min interval for logout/login and it worked for me. This was on the browser and not the app though.
Seems like Covishield stock is now being supplied to private players (other than hospitals). A friend (and his family) who works in BCG got vaccinated along with all other employees in a vaccination drive organized by their firm.
Any other firms who have organized such vaccination drives? Like many MNCs, my firm announced they would do the vaccination for all employees free of cost but there's been no visibility on when that will happen.
My experience with vaccination (Chennai)
Ever since the vaccines got approved for human usage, I've been waiting quite earnestly to get the jab. Once the actual 18+ rollout happened though, honestly, wasn't too keen on getting vaccinated right away. Call it mental exhaustion due to all the shortages and needing to fight the COWIN system as well as all the scripters/automaters who tend to book things within a few seconds of slots opening up.
My wonderful spouse took it upon herself to sign up to Telegram groups which drop info on slots opening up. She's been trying to get a slot for 5 days now but each time, slots would get booked under 5 seconds of the notification. It's frustrating and a travesty that it's come down to this but my advice would be to shrug off and try again later.
Frustrating part is that, I believe, COWIN doesn't let you do group appointments any more so only I was able to get an appointment. We went to
Gleneagles Global Healthy City in Perumbakkam to get
Covaxin, which we specifically wanted. Our plan was to, hopefully, get my spouse a walk-in appointment, which we were luckily able to.
Gleneagle's system isn't the greatest and is very bureaucracy and time intensive. We went there by 10.40 AM for our 11 AM slot. I came out vaccinated at 2.15 PM. I spent most of my time simply waiting. I would recommend taking lots of water, a book, sanitizer and maybe a snack or two as no food is available inside. I made the mistake of not doing it.
Cost was 1100 INR for the vaccine and 150 to administer it to me. All I got was a jab and this pin to show for it.

Any thoughts on the global tender by states for procuring Covid vaccines for their respective states, subsequent to GOI permission? Maharashtra couldn't get any bidders even after the last date was over. Now TN has issued a tender, and does not bar Chinese vaccine makers from bidding.
How safe will the new vaccines be, especially Chinese ones? Don't the vaccines need to be tested on Indians first for a certain period? Doesn't the ICMR or whatever body have to approve the vaccines? I certainly will not give it to anyone in my family.

The vaccines from China have been approved by many countries around the globe, with WHO approvals and as safe as any other globally approved ones. At the current projections, Chinese vaccines will have to be imported and rolled out, there is no other way to vaccinate the whole of India ASAP.

I’ve noticed this too. I’m not sure if this is the right thing to do, to be honest. Personally I think they should be made to supply to hospitals and open up walk-in so that the maximum number of people can get vaccinated.
Edit:
Has anyone here gotten the Sputnik vaccine? I have heard about some IT Corporates partnering with some hospital chains to roll it out for interesting employees.
I haven’t seen or heard anyone get it yet and hence the curiosity.

I got my first dose vaccinated by my employer, free of cost. The campaign is going on on one or two days in a week partnering with Red Cross in Chennai, but again only for 45+ including dependants. The data was collected from all of us about a month back and suddenly out of the blue, last week they arranged it.
BTW, fastest fingers worked for us yesterday.
Was trying to get my spouse vaccinated. Couldnt manage to get her done through my employer since she didnt qualify with the age criteria.
She ringed up one of the Apollo hospital and a good soul who attended the phone asked her to check between 03:45 to 04:15 PM (Tatkal time).
The slot opens between 04:05 PM to 04:15 PM for the next two days from the current date
We tried on Monday, but before entering the Captcha, the slots were full.
Tried again yesterday and we were lucky to get it in Apollo OMR in the first slot - 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Surprisingly we could see some slots were available till about 04:30 PM IST.
She had reached the hospital at around 08:45 and was given a token number and told to wait. Registration (Payment) was done at 10:15 and has got vaccinated at 10:30 around and is on the way back home now.

DGCI has stated that any WHO approved vaccine can be bought by states. The Chinese vaccines in question are safe enough, but questions have been raised how effective they're.
Since supply is very slow, all other state tenders may also go the MH way.

The Sinopharm vaccine has been approved by WHO on 8th May. WHO has already given emergency use listing to the vaccines being made by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson, and the AstraZeneca jab and Sinopharm is the 5th.
Russia's Sputnik V vaccine is the next furthest ahead in the process. China also has a second vaccine which I believe has been submitted for WHO approval. Most countries require WHO approval before importing any vaccine so data for approved vaccines should be considered legit.

I am 38Y/M and healthy. Got vaccinated with Covaxin on 18 May at a PHC in my native place in Haryana. The process was smooth and batches of 10 were being formed before opening a vial. The challenge will be to get the second jab now. With Covaxin, getting slots is a bigger challenge compared to Covishield.
Side effects from the vaccine - slight pain in arm and little laziness. Rest all is good.

Total number vaccinated as on date is 18.70 Crores.
Source :
www.covid19india.org. which is a crowd sourced website. The more accurate source is mohfw.gov.in, but I find only cumulative data as on date, not daily data on it. There will be a difference in the daily figures between the two, but I have seen the difference is usually in hundreds, so insignificant for our purpose.
From around end March the vaccination drive picked up steam in India. We can clearly see the daily figures hovering around/breaching the 3 million mark, sometimes even the 4 million mark. Even on Sundays. But for the past one week or so, we can clearly note a slackening, with the daily figures staying well below the 2 million mark, sometimes hovering closer to 1 million.
What is the reason for this? Is it shortage of vaccines? Sudden vaccine hesitancy among the people? After chest thumping everywhere that we are the vaccine makers to the world, what is the use now in allowing states to buy vaccine through Global tender? They are unable to buy vaccine anywhere, and I hear some are inviting even Chinese vaccine makers to bid.
Gross miscalculation and over confidence by the CG on vaccine front.
I read Nitin Gadkari recently said 10 more manufacturers should be give licence to make vaccines instead of just two, and they can take 10% of the selling price as royalty. Perhaps Covaxin manufacturer can be convinced, but for Covishield Astra Zeneca will have to agree. Many states in India have one or two companies each that are capable of manufacturing vaccines.
I had a lovely experience getting my first dose of COVAXIN at SRMC, Porur today.
It took me a couple of weeks to be able to book a slot, despite receiving alerts from a Telegram group and acting on them near-instantly. I was only able to book them when SRMC opened up 325 * 5 slots on COWIN, I've witnessed as many as 200-250 available slots getting fully booked between the time I clicked on the slot and the time I entered the security code(Captcha).
The process was seamless - I had a 03:00-04:00 slot, drove into the college campus at 03:02, went to the visitors parking and the COVAXIN vaccination clinic was right next to where I parked. There were low crowds and the surroundings were hygienic and professionally maintained. It took me 5 mins to fill up a form and pay the bill(SRMC charged 1500Rs. and not 1250 like everywhere else), and by 03:20 I'd gotten my shot. They asked me to wait for a couple of minutes and then took my BP and Pulse Oximeter reading. I thanked the nurses, a Doctor who was supervising, and the people manning the front desk, went back to the parking and stayed in my car for about half an hour - 45 mins, even though they said it wasn't needed...better safe than sorry, considering that I'd driven myself there.
Afterwards, on leaving the campus, I noticed that the weather had changed and there was a huge storm cloud entering the city from Poonamalle. I slowed down, intercepted the cloud, and followed it all the way home for a pleasant driving experience. :Cheering:
Side effects so far have only been a mild pain in the arm and a little tiredness, I don't think it's going to get any worse and I will update after a couple of weeks time/getting the 2nd dose to sum up how the whole experience was.
Took covaxin cause that's the only thing I got.
Was asked not to workout for two days and I waited. Worked out pretty hard on the third day morning and felt feverish by afternoon. Had a nice nap and was back to normal in an hour
So far so good!
Folks in Bangalore.
A quick question :-
With the worsening situation of low availability of vaccinations, my cousin’s apartment managed to arrange for a camp. I managed to get a booking with the camp. However the booking is not done through Cowin app. They will jab you and update, post the jab on Cowin. They have done multiple camps in the last month and all folks who got vaccinated have their details updated.
I live in JP Nagar and the camp is in Electronic City. Given that there is no travel permitted unless emergency or vaccination how do I manage the travel since I don’t have an appointment letter. I have a WhatsApp message which provides a list of 100 peoples’ names only and no numbers.
This is for my second dose. Any pointers would help.
