re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

To me, the last episode of The Walking Dead was pointless. It seemed to be one of those episodes that were written by a guest writer. But who knows, they might link it up to main story somehow in the end, not just through Beth.

I doubt anyone will be left alive by the time Sons of Anarchy completes.

Meanwhile, Downton Abby's season 5 has started as well. Anyone watching that?

And Castle just seems to be getting more and more ridiculous with every season.

On the other hand, Big Bang Theory and Modern Family seems to be going great guns. Just seeing Billy Bob Thornton on the last episode of Big Bang had me falling off my chair.

Will have to give How to Get Away With Murder a try now.

*As if i dont watch enough TV already!*

Is anyone watching Masterchef? Masterchef Australia was really great to watch, with very friendly and talented home cooks and cooking masters as judges who wanted everyone to improve. It really improved my cooking as well!

Watched the first episode of Masterchef US new season with great anticipation, and was thoroughly disappointed. Many of the contestants look fake as if they are brought only to advertise bad styles and make drama.

I will mostly skip on this series of US and wait eagerly for Masterchef Australia to start again.

Masterchef Australia is the only true Masterchef. The US version is a farce. As you rightly pointed out all they are there is to garner eyeballs. Plus the quality and sophistication of cooking is nowhere close to that of the down under version. And the judges are rude and foul-mouthed.

The MCAus season that just ended was the best one yet and Brent was a deserving winner. Last season was good too but I didn't think Emma deserved top spot. This show is one reason I really regret giving up cooking (used to be quite interested in my younger days)- who knows, maybe someday I go back to it!

My list (Maybe missed many, and did not include the very old ones like '"cheers"and such):

1. Breaking bad
2. Halt and Catch Fire (great if you like computer hardware)
3. Silicon Valley (Comedy based on the startup culture in silicon valley)
4. House of Cards (Great political drama)
5. Fargo (Loved it! laid back style may not enthuse everyone though)
6. True Detective
7. The Thick of it (English political drama/comedy - in your face style)
8. Game of Thrones
9. Top Gear
10. Sherlock
11. Brooklyn Nine Nine (time pass watch)
12. The IT crowd.
13. The Big Bang theory
14. F.R.I.E.N.D.S
15. Black Adder

The Thick of it, House of cards were surprising wince I dint think I would like a political satire/drama. And Fargo was also surprising- the production value was good, and the acting top class (Martin Freeman -Watson in Sherlock- plays the main character here).

My favourites include :
  • Death Note - Just one season, but more than enough content to haunt you for a long time. Soundtracks are simply superb.
  • Breaking Bad - IMHO the finale didn't meet expectations of many fans, but to hell with that, one of the best TV shows ever
  • Prison Break - Big fan of the first season, no comments about the rest.
  • Game of Thrones - I really love the 'You-never-know-who's-gonna-die-next' approach of the show
  • F.R.I.E.N.D.S - I just love this one
  • The Killing - Really loved the first season. IMO things went outta hand from second onwards (though I didn't finish watching it)
  • House MD - Watching the show just to admire Hugh more and more for his awesome piece of work
  • House of Cards - Another masterpiece, the plot is simply brilliant.
  • Sherlock - An eastwind is coming
  • True Detective - Boy oh boy, I almost cried when Braking Bad was over, but guess who came to rescue?
  • The Walking Dead - I never thought a show that's all about killing zombies would get my attention so much. JK, great show.

Picked up The Flash on CW/Hulu

Nice storyline & narration. Its grippy like Arrow.

The only problem I have is that the narration style, locations & direction is exactly like Arrow so it lacks that freshness of a new series.

Has it moved beyond the pilot?

Gotham, from the same guy who made The mentalist, Bruno Heller.
One of the most well made show in the recent times. All the characters are bang on with their roles.
You just can't but adore the penguin.
Another dc show that i am watching currently is The Flash, it's bit loud and underdeveloped but the story is gearing up pretty well.
Suddenly I feel tv is getting conquered slowly by DC.

Homeland. What an unexpected explosive twist. I suspect now everyone who stopped after season 2 will binge watch to season 4.
Too bad no episode this weekend!!

Walking dead, as usual is proceeding at the pace of the walkers.

Each episode of this season of Homeland has been gripping. the plot and story line might have been at a slow pace initially but it has really built up the tempo now. I was eagerly looking forward to the next episode.

No episode this week?

Have started Elementary S03 meanwhile. Most of the episodes are well put together and modern Sherlock is entertaining to watch.

Television Series i have been watching for a long time

Everybody Loves Raymond - a very subtle comedy, story of a married guy whose parents live across the road, with his elder brother still staying with them. He (Raymond) has three kids, a girl and a twin baby boys.
Have seen all the seasons, and to tell you the truth, watched them over and over again, that i have actually lost the count. Now what i do is select any random episode and watch it as it is still a good fun to watch it. Raymond here (the lead character) is portrayed by Ray Romano, a stand up comedian and a very successful one, he has given his voice to MANNY the Mammoth in the animated movie series of Ice Age. Very cool family comedy, a must watch.

Big Bang Theory - Love these guys. All the characters are woven so nicely in the series. Definitely brings out the child in you when you are laughing at almost every line of each character. Following it since a long time, and watching the eighth season currently aired.

The Flash - First TV series ever to come up for a Marvel Super hero before the movie is been made. The series has just started with the seventh episode in season 1 downloaded today.
