I wouldn't call it totally useless. I like the build quality of one plus phones. They can take a lot of beating. Have been using it for more than 10 years and never faced any issue. Thankfully my phone is not affected by any software issues until now.
If OnePlus is not good anymore then I need to hunt for well built Android phones within 1L range. Please do share your suggestions of any.

For a well-built Android phone, consider the Google Pixel series. They offer excellent build quality, top-notch cameras, and a pure Android experience.

Re: Your list of buy-it-for-life long lasting products

Here are my purchases which I believe will last long.

2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Offroad Premium - This with its 4.0 v6 will run easily for 500k miles. This is the most boring SUV in US market. My wife hates climbing up and down on this and she prefers her MDX all the time.

2023 BMW R1250 GS Trophy edition - Now this is my favorite bike something I really cherish. I have few buddies in my group who got more than 100k miles in their GS and I wish I can do that much in my life time with this bike.

My Thinkpad T450 which is 9 years old. It was my primary work laptop as well during covid times and I connected remote desktops, VMs in it. It is used by my wife these days as a primary work laptop to connect to her office VM. Still original battery. Very normal configuration Intel i5, 8GB Ram, 256 gigs SSD. I paid $900 for it in 2015 when I came to US.

Our 11 year old Panasonic Split AC which is running in India. My parents shifted 4 houses and it is still running in our hometown master bedroom and used daily by my father. No loss in gas, original compressor. Just replaced the capacitor once.

I have a 2016 iPad as well and I don't think it will ever go bad. It took lot of abuse from my kid in her toddler years during Covid lockdown.

Hoping to get E9# series M3 or Porsche Cayman with stick shift. I prefer to own Naturally Aspirated engine with manual transmission.

Re: Your list of buy-it-for-life long lasting products

Definitely in watches I have few which definitely gonna last for a lifetime, a Casio G shock GBD200, Titan Automatic watch and a Timex Expedition watch with Titanium body.

My Dell laptop which I purchased more than a decade back sustained all the abuse of my college and early professional life still refuse to die, many came after him and ended up in garbage but this one just keep going and is now my permanent backup laptop.

Casio 991 MS and ES the only calculator you ever need.

Honorary mention: Though its not a product I brought, A Khaitan fan in my ancestral home, I have seen it since my birth and even my uncle saw it since its birth, I have no idea how old it is and its still running strong.

Re: Your list of buy-it-for-life long lasting products

Few things which comes to my mind.
1. My 10 year old Quechua rucksack is as good as new, It will last much longer.
2. Team-bhp T shirts are great, seems to hold up well in the last 4 years. I am repeat buying with new design and new colours this time.
3. I bought the top of the line spring mattresses from Duroflex. Although it is a little early to call, it seems like it is going to last a lot longer than our earlier coir+foam mattress from the same brand.
4. A Casio G shock which many have talked about

I was going to write this and read you have written.
I spent a lot on fancy watches. Then realised it’s hard to maintain them, change batteries etc.
So then I got Citizen Ecodrive - Titanium and Sapphire glass. Never spent a dime in last 15 years.
I am a big believer of buying things one time. For example home furniture (if you are not moving)
I would spend more on good quality wooden furniture, at the max I have to change the cushions and the covers. But sheesham and teak wood lasts for life.
In India the quality of product deteriorates in smaller / starter models. As the models get bigger with more capacity etc they use stronger materials. This goes for everything from washing machine, fridge, dryer, kitchen electricals and electronics.
When possible buy high end, you may not immediately use it to full capacity but it will last better and longer.

Automobiles are subjective to how they are driven, roads, uncontrollable factors of getting dents, accidents etc. Hence if you have a nice garage then buy something that will last and you also should be happy to drive the thing for 20 years for example.

Constructing house, as in independent bungalow we have lots of freedom to select best quality material. This helps in making sure the house lasts over more than one or two generations.
My grandfather had a solid sheesham bed. That lasted 4 generations and still going on.

Given the weak battery life by design, they will be difficult to use after a few years with degradation

Point to Ponder

How would a particular industry survive if things are made to last forever!! I have been visiting my grand mother's house at Ajmer since 1974. The house was purchased in 1971. The electric switches made of Bakelite (A hard, infusible, and chemically resistant plastic, Bakelite was based on a chemical combination of phenol and formaldehyde (phenol-formaldehyde resin), two compounds that were derived from coal tar and wood alcohol (methanol), respectively, at that time - from Google) - usually black colour - some of us old timers, rather experienced and grey haired, would recall the black phones we used to use). During the 26th Jan 2024 weekend, I visited Ajmer and went to my granny's house. The house was sold in 2008, the buyer being the present occupants. I knocked the door and introduced myself. Having spent my childhood there, I have a lot of fond memories. He graciously welcomed me and told me to have a look around. Memories kept flooding. What struck me was he has retained the Bakelite electric switches for the room electric equipments (namely lights and fans) at exactly the same position. We I entered the room I used to occupy as a school going kid, I told him, this switch is for the fan - I switched it on, the next switch I told him - this is for the tube light, switched it on - a perfect click - ho and behold the tube light switched on - the owner was like awe struck!!

Now coming to the topic - if all things were made like this, one can just wonder how would the industry survive!! What if mobile phones or for that matter automobiles made to 'last', it would then be confined to 'just a one time purchase' - after that what!!

Call Dyson on the breaking of its items. Mine dustbin rin got broken and they replaced the entire vaccum machine under warranty with no questions asked.

Re: Your list of buy-it-for-life long lasting products

I always buy things which I think will last me for few years, be it electronics or clothes. As a kid, I used to wonder if the TV we got (Sony) would see me through, but things have changed.

You can no longer get a wooden wardrobe or a TV (just a random example) which will last. (You may quote and reply me at a dedicated thread for this).

Recently got 2 bookshelf speakers, one from JBL Pro and one from Pioneer DJ, hoping it will last. With new house, renovated the garden / plus terrace, now, you don't get the clay flower pots, it's all fiber, am not sure how long shall they last, but I was ready to pay more (they would be breakable though).

Point is, I usually do not get bored with things that last, be it faucets or furniture or just anything (save for cars & clothes).

My wife for example insists on new crockery or new coffee mugs every 4 to 6 months and I am drinking my tea / coffee from the same thing since, I can't remember.

5. Jeans: Iron Heart , Naked and Famous - .
That's a nice list there, sadly not much is available here, even your recommended Orient watches are NA for long

Do you know any vegan leather brands that come close?

I had used OnePlus for a while as well, in fact I have bought half a dozen OnePlus phones for myself and my family. But they are not good anymore, not since one of the co-founders left the company. I wouldn't suggest anyone to go for it.

I am currently using a Pixel, I could say that they are neither well build, nor a good software experience.
