Re: A Guide: Eating out in Bangalore

Any recommendations for a fine-dine restaurant with good Indian Chinese food (not the authentic Chinese restaurants) in South/Central Bangalore. Thanks in advance.

Any cool rooftop connectivity places for a group of 30+ in and around CBD area? Looking for upscale place with good food, vibe and not so loud music. Want people to have nice conversations and network better.

Thanks in advance.
HTC
13th Floor / Juliet if roof top is important. Otherwise Seven Rivers has a great poolside section

Re: A Guide: Eating out in Bangalore

Went to Airlines hotel for evening snacks. Had Masala Dosa and coffee. Both were very average. Infact, the dosa was not cooked properly. There are establishments which server far better dosa. I did not understand what the hype was all about?! I think the only reason why this hotel has so many visitors is the lack of any other good south indian darshini type food options in the vicinity.

There is also a KBH within the premises which is a much better option I feel

Agree 100% on the food items.

I guess people turn up because the seating setup is nice and outdoorsy for that area of the city; and parking is right adjacent/inside. And if one isn't too picky, the food quality is average but works for the majority of taste buds. Many times when my friends catch up, we debate on places but end up at Airlines as it's central to everyone coming from different parts of the city; there isn't anything else that offers what this place does.

Not exactly Indo-Chinese, but Khmer on Outer Ring Road (/JP Nagar) is a great place.

Check Julian on 1Mg mall rooftop. We recently did a 20+ team outing with food & beverages. It was quite nice. They do have a DJ/dance floor but on a Friday evening, that didn't get into motion till the time we were there (9pm iirc).

.
The outdoor ambience with service provided for people who wish to sit in their cars and eat(something I cannot just fathom of) is a brownie point. People come in swanky cars, sit and eat in their cars.

A big for me was the number of smokers lined up near the entrance to the covered seating area. The smoke was drifting to the open seating area as well which made my experience very bad. I am averse to smoking! Gives me an instant headache.

Another of those old Bangalore establishments that runs only on brand name/nostalgia. And as ninjatalli has already posted, central location. The food and service have been much below par for years now.

I don't remember if the food quality was much better before, but it certainly was a much, much nicer place a long time ago. It was a lot bigger, I think they lost a lot of space to the building (BMW showroom?) next door. People used to come to eat and relax, not to rev and show off their fancy bikes and cars. We used to run around and play as kids, while waiting for the food, now it's a mini-traffic jam entering and exiting on most days!

Re: A Guide: Eating out in Bangalore

I had been to Taaza thindi today morning for breakfast. Ordered idly vada for me and the mrs while the kids had the masala dose. The dose and the chutney was good but the idly/vada was just average. The chutney served with the idly was bland and had more mint leaves than anything. Pineapple kesaribath was good as was the coffee.

Monday my mother and I made our way to Gayatri coffee kendra, 7th block Jayanagar. Ordered idly/vada and one masala dose. Idly and dose were good while their vada was too oily. Liked the coffee though.

Dakshin Tindi has people flocking to in the recent days. I see people jostling on my way to and back from work. This is near Shalini grounds in Jayanagar replacing the erstwhile Chutney Flow. Their Benne Khali dose seems to be the crowd favourite.
I am planning to visit them this Sunday on my way back home.

Is this also a new brand owned by the guys who started Bangalore Cafe on the parallel road near BBMP office?

I tried Gayatri coffee Kendra recently and liked the Idly and (chilli hot) chutney

Felt the Vada and Sambar wasn’t that great.

Yes, this is by the Bengaluru Cafe guys. The reviews are all good for Dose and Kesari bath here.

Re: A Guide: Eating out in Bangalore

Had breakfast at Nirantaram Cafe, near Ramaiah Hospital yesterday, excellent South Indian fare.

The place has a nice ambience, and is well laid out given the space constraints (it is a small self service place). The place was full, though we were able to get a table without waiting, we did see some folks having to wait.

Idly Vada was excellent - accompanied by real sambar and fresh chutney.
Butter masala dosa was just about good, the masala was mixed in the dough itself and was not layered on the dosa like usual.
The only down side was the Coffee was flat.

There is one Dakshin Thindi attached to Simpli Namdhari's on Ashoka Pillar Road, Jayanagar 3rd block. Is this the same management? I had Ghee Podi Thatte Idli and coffee there last week. Both of them were good. My new resolution is to cut down on the Ghee idlies/dosas; makes me feel heavy for few hours.

The 30th Cross Road/Jayanagar Jain Temple road/Ganesha Temple junction seems to be buzzing nowadays. Apart from Maiya's and Hatti Kaapi which have been there for years now, there is Ishtaa, a new restaurant called Old Bengaluru Cafe (looks like it is run by Aadukale), and a huge new restaurant called "India Tiffin Club".

Had been there first weekend of December, may be just after opening night. The ambiance is definitely good, the service was good too but i felt a bit disappointed with the dish's serving size vis a vis the pricing, especially given the waiting period.

Will try again in sometime once their operations stabilizes a bit.

Yes, it is the same management and is owned by The Bengaluru Cafe.

I had their Benne Khali Dose with Palya added to it. The Dose is very soft and will appeal to the elder folks, but it didn't go well with me. Save for that excellent Palya, I could not taste the Dose in my mouth nor the Benne. My friend who accompanied me had Benne Masala Dose and he too was not satisfied.

We left the place at that and had our Sunday favourite Idly and vade with chutney and Kaapi at Gayatri Coffee Kendra.

@NPV: I have not tasted the Sambhar here, but my neice was impressed with the same.
