I wanted to know:
1) Can we claim this amount back?
2) If yes, then do I simply add the details from the 26AS (Name of collector, TAN of collector, Tax Collected, etc) in the TCS section of the ITR, and the refund will be processed accordingly?
As far as I know, TCS, TDS and Advance Tax are adjusted against the total tax due from you. If you have paid more, a refund will be processed. If you have paid less, you have to the difference with fine prior to filing your ITR.

So, I need to show the TCS deducted in the ITR so that it's adjusted against the total tax liability?

Right. And with the java utility I believe it will automatically appear.

Thanks

By the way I am using ClearTax, so it automatically scanned the 26AS and populated the details in the right section.

Re: All Income Tax Queries (refunds, disputes, rates etc...)

I filed my returns on ClearTax a couple of days back. Their user interface is pretty simple, intuitive and easier to fill than the IT department format. Have been using their site for the past 3 years. No complaints so far.

I tried Cleartax for first time. My review is Clear tax is not smart enough to find discrepancies in Form 16.

My company goofed up Part A of Form 16. They didn't add the TDS cut in September 2017 in Part A. My form 26AS also then had discrepancy. But Part B of Form 16 had Tax payable correctly calculated. It should have caught this issue in Form 16 and showed the discrepancy at the end page while using ClearTax.

My company has now sent me correct Form 16.

Hmm. The Cleartax site has a place where you can also upload the 26A (Other than the initial uploading of Form 16 part B. If despite this it did not point out the discrepancy, maybe you should send them the feedback. I have observed that they are pretty customer centric and will try to address this.

Cleartax is good enough for cases where everything is normal. I don't think they can adapt to any deviations. My experience last year:

For me, no Cleartax going forward.

Re: All Income Tax Queries (refunds, disputes, rates etc...)

Guys need some help. My Wife forgot to file her 2017-18 return last year and even missed the extended deadline (so even the belated return filing isnt happening).

What are the options now? what can be done about it?

She can apply for condonation of delay u/s 119(2)(b) to the Commissioner of Income Tax concerned citing reasons for non filing. When she gets it, she will be able to file her return online.

Re: All Income Tax Queries (refunds, disputes, rates etc...)

For FY 2017-18 (AY2018-19) My son's partnership firm had filed it's return last year and there was excess TDS deposited by our customers. In the end we are to receive refund of slightly in excess of 10lacs. Nothing is showing up on e-filing portal. When is the refund likely?

Similar is case with one trust's assessment where TDS on rental income is more and refund is due.

Re: All Income Tax Queries (refunds, disputes, rates etc...)

Question:

I have filed my returns, but may have missed to declare dividend from shares. The amount is quite small - about a 1000. Should I revise the submission ?

Same boat. My wife missed interest income from an FD (about 8K). I think since it still before the deadline refiling is OK.

I would say not needed as that was a insignificant exempt income.

You need to file a rectification as this has a total tax impact

That amount of extra income doesn't change the tax for my wife.
