Sirji,

Aadhar contains expanded initials, whereas the account name in PF has truncated name.

Sure, it should not matter, Or does it ?

I'm facing the same problem, and as hserus has indicated, there is a difference in the spelling of my name between the UAN record (incorrect) and Aadhaar (correct). However, the entry screen to key in KYC details asks for both Aadhaar number and the name on the document, which made me hopeful that there would be some manner of validation that occurs later, not necessarily real-time.

I have previously linked my passport to the UAN, and that worked just fine, despite my passport having the same (correct) name as the Aadhaar. In fact, when I linked my passport, it first went into the 'Pending KYC' section, and after a few days moved to the 'Approved KYC' section, implying there's some offline verification.

So I'm not sure why there's such a hitch for Aadhar. Just today, I've sent an email to employeefeedback@epfindia.gov.in to see if there's any response, else will have to call their helpline.

Re: The "Provident Fund" Thread

My company/ employer just made EPF mandatory for everyone from April 2017.

So now I need to forcefully put money in EPF - though I already have Superannuation and NPS as well.

Just curious, why is this forced on everyone?

It is a crazy system. You might get aadhaar linked to your EPF through your office HR / finance people - they have access to an admin interface that will allow them to update aadhaar in your PF records.

EPF is much much better than NPS. Superannuation is different - annuity in for example LIC I would guess. Wont be worth a penny later on if so.

Well, for all these systems, once you are in, there is no way out. I do not know why the Govt. like to lock in.

Anyway, what I could find from Internet sources is that if your basic income is more than Rs. 15000, you can get exclusion from EPF.

At a time when the government is incentivising people to switch to digital payments and one of its main programmes is Digital India, its Unified Employment Provident Fund (EPF) website has been out of steam since February 8.

The Employment Provident Fund Organisation's Twitter handle informed its members on February 8 that the website was down and said services would be restored soon. However, a deadline or a date for revival of the services wasn't given.

However, the aforementioned report which cites various social media posts by aggrieved parties, indicates that the website has been down since August 2016.
It might not have been offline for a whole month (since I logged in a week ago) or since last August, but I'd have to say that it is inaccessible roughly 9 out of 10 times I try to access it across multiple days.

EPF is far far better than NPS (which is more or less a slightly better managed ULIP). Get into it and stay in, across employers.

That lock in is because it is meant for your retirement income, or to tide you over when you are unemployed for several months, rather than for periodic spending of all the money.

Well, this is good in theory.

For someone with basic knowledge of finance, the other options available are far better in the longer run.
And for someone who has PPF, Superannuation and NPS - all kept for future use, why add one more 'relatively lower performing' instrument?

So, this should be given as a choice, rather than forced down the throat.

Re: The "Provident Fund" Thread

Oh, the thing is

1. EPF has guaranteed returns
2. It is EEE (exempt exempt exempt) tax wise. Factor that in?

Same here. I think it's down since as long as August 2016 with intermittent ups.

For me also, I get aadhar authentication error. But in my case the issue maybe due to incorrect gender in EPF. Somehow my gender is mentioned wrongly so that might explain Aadhar auth failure. I have already applied for correction in gender via my employer.

So, that makes at least 3 of us who've not been able to link Aadhaar to EPF ourselves via the site, all due to the "Aadhaar authentication error". I'm starting to wonder if this is not something to do with us (and our individual problems like name/gender mismatch) but something to do with the system.

Is there anyone reading this who has successfully linked Aadhaar to their EPF account via the EPFO site https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.g...mberinterface/ ?

Yes, I have, and that was a year ago. The advantage of linking Aadhaar is that one can withdraw his PF on retirement online, without having to submit physical forms. I plan to do it this October when I reach 58.

The site was working a couple of weeks ago, but not today.

But I tried to add my passport in the KYC page a month ago. For a couple of weeks, it showed under 'pending verification' sub-page, and below that was the sub-page that showed what had already been linked, like Aadhar, PAN, etc.

But when I logged in last, the passport vanished from where it was, and was also not showing up under the linked docs sub-page. So I added it again, as well as my voter id card. Could not verify again, as the site is down.

Thank you for confirming you were able to link your Aadhaar.

Coming to your passport, that's odd. A month ago, I added my passport (which went to the pending verification table) and after some days it ended up in the verified section. I'm surprised why it failed for you.

This PF website - it doesn't work. When it does work, it doesn't work right. Sigh.

Sometimes that verification doesn't stick when you changed employers. My old PF account till 2015 had Aadhaar linked. After I changed jobs in 3/2015, my new PF account under the same UAN didn't have aadhaar on it, according to my company finance team, and they updated it afresh for me using their admin UI.

The portal being down means even PF credit seems to be happening slowly, possibly due to more manual processing? I just the other day got an SMS about my December PF getting credited. When the last portal was in place, PF for the month got credited within a few days of my salary being deposited to my account.
