Nope, I think it was effective April 1st 2022. Quoting the below for reference.

"Effective 1 April 2022, any interest on an employee’s contribution to EPF upto INR 2.5 lakhs per year is tax-free and any interest earned on a contribution over and above INR 2.5 lakhs is taxable in the hands of the employees. The threshold of INR 2.5 lakhs is increased to INR 5 lakhs in case the employer is not contributing towards EPF.

As per the notification issued by the Income Tax department dated 31 August 2021, the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner (RPFC) will maintain the EPF balance of individuals in two separate accounts for taxation purposes. The contribution within the limit of INR 2.5lakhs/5lakhs in one account and the excess contribution along with the interest accrued on it shall be maintained in a separate taxable account. The RPFC shall deduct TDS on such interest paid on the account maintaining taxable contribution."

Re: The "Provident Fund" Thread

is anyone able to view the passbook? I have been trying for the last couple of days and the page throws up an error and doesn't even get to the login page. The UAN portal works fine, the passbook one doesn't.

Nope, it's completely screwed up. They are having serious issues with the site. Give it a week or so.

With some workaround I was able to.

The site which comes up from googling wasnt working on multiple tries.

But then go via UAN-> view passbook-> opens the passbook site-> enter credentials. This worked for me yesterday. (Tried at night 9ish , maybe impact of server load )

Good luck.

This one doesn't work either.. either the load or someone forgot to check if the site is back online or not and went their merry ways in the finance department.

That could be the issue for your request getting rejected.
I finally found out why my Transfer Outs are being rejected. At my Employer 1, I was not in India for a couple of years and apparently they had not updated NCP days (Non Contributory Period) and EPF officer is asking for the employer to clarify/correct this using Form 5 or 10. I don't even know where to begin this with but gonna send an email to the employer as a first step. I'm now in Employer 3 and have 3 separate PF accounts overall.

The passbook site is working and is sporting a new look, which is more confusing (at least for me) compared to the previous one. The service history is incorrect in the passbook, however it is correct in the UAN portal, not sure if I should just leave it as is or raise a grievance with them.

Still waiting for interest to be credited for FY21-22. It’s absolutely hard to believe that these guys are running more than a year behind on interest payments. Shows the level of mis-management and inefficiency at the department.

Re: The "Provident Fund" Thread

I dont understand why can't they just show the entries in the ledger on time. It's not like someone has to physically count the amount and deposit it.

Disclaimer: It was updated for me in Oct

Re: The "Provident Fund" Thread

The passbook portal is not working since more than a week now. I need to download my latest PF statement to apply for higher pension scheme, last date for which is 03-MAY. I tried using Umang app, that is also not working.
I just get the feeling that, government is trying their very best to discourage people to apply for higher pension scheme.

The EPFO IT is most incompetent department in India. We have to thank our stars if we are just able to login to their site once every year. High time they outsource their whole IT to a service provider like Infosys or TCS.

Before this 'blackout', main UAN portal was not working but the passbook portal was working. Now, it is reverse.
As you have mentioned above, this is the most incompetent department in India! Absolutely no accountability.
For everything, people have to go to supreme court and govt will act only when the order comes from there.

Re: The "Provident Fund" Thread

My struggle to update EPS contribution just completed one year, everytime I raise a grievance, EPFO staff are in a hurry to close the ticket with false commitment for settling the account.

Re: The "Provident Fund" Thread

I have been trying to transfer from my previous PF account to my current one for the last 5-6 months. Raised 3 requests and each of them got rejected with the same reason - MEMBER IS NON EPS MEMBER BUT EPS DATE OF JOINING&EXIT UPLOADED. After the first rejection itself, I had contacted my previous employer and they had clarified that due to some mistake in my onboarding document (which I made), they had not contributed to EPS although I was an EPS member. They further confirmed (shared a copy of request) that they have submitted clarification to the PF department. I went ahead and raised the transfer request which got rejected again. Then, I raised a PF grievance which was closed saying that necessary action will be taken. So, I raised the third request which also got rejected. At this point, I am not sure how to go forward. Do I wait it out for some time and raise the request again. Or is there any other mechanism to escalate.

I have got a similar issue. Turns out there was a (costly) mistake in the forms and my PF transfer has been rejected. Now, my previous employer has issued a clarification but I haven't received any updates on it from EPFO. I have been extremely irritated at how these orgs function and the rule of mandatory contribution to PF. Now, I have this fear that I may never get my own money.
