The laser treatment is doctor dependant rather than hospital dependent. Look for someone who has a good experience. I can recommend you one in mumbai if T-BHP forum rules permit the same.

I have been wearing prescription glasses for short sightedness since high school. Now I need bifocal (progressive lens in modern lingo). Should I consult an ophthalmologist and make do with the opticians at the glass dispensers? My eyes are also very sensitive to very bright light, sometimes I find it difficult to read computer monitor in very bright environment.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

From last 3 weeks, I am having pain in my lower back.
1. The pain is in lower back, at the center.
2. If I stand up for more than 2-3 minutes, the pain starts increasing. Also if standing prolonged, the pain starts shifting towards both sides.
3. If I lean forward, I feel more pain (it feels like being stretched)

Went to an orthopedic who requested an X-ray, which didn't show anything alarming. So he concluded that the muscles must have gone stiff given that I work in IT and do sit for at least 9 to 10 hours a day. He also advised not to exercise till the pain goes away.
He prescribed me a muscle relaxant (Mobizox) but it didn't help.

So after a week I again went to the same doctor and as per him, the tablet should've worked if it really were stiff muscles. Now, for time being he has given an alternate tablet, and suggested me to visit a general surgeon to rule out kidney/urine stone.

As my wife had suffered from kidney stone not so long ago, I can clearly differentiate between the pain she had and the one I am experiencing. I do feel that this shouldn't be a kidney/urine stone as I do not have any symptoms like that, of course I'll let the doctor decide it (I am planning to visit a general surgeon tomorrow).

But I'd like to ask experts here what should I do in this case? What direction I should go, as it's already been 3 weeks?

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Sore Throat?

I am frequently having sore throat and fever. When it happened 3 months back the ENT specialist said it's coz of my immunity. I had completely stopped cold beverages and all. This time, it came along with fever and was prescribed antibiotics and paracetamol. A day before the onset of fever, just had a glass of Tropicana at a relative's place.

What could be the underlying reasons for this recurrence of sore throat?

Bangalore climate is a bit harsh. When i was there for a short time (around 1.5 years) - i used to get something similar every 4-5 months or so. Though, Delhi NCR is no better with dust pollution causing allergies.

What your doctor told might be right. Our immune response is not as good as it should be, according to the kind of climate we are living in.

But allopathic doctors don't provide the solution. They only treat the symptom. At max, they can advise you to do exercise, and give a generic advice to eat more fruits and vegetables to boost immunity.

I suggest you start with a holistic approach, by first figuring out your "Dosha" type. You can use any Dosha quiz online. For example, Dr. Deepak Chopra Dosha quiz.

https://store.chopra.com/dosha-quiz?...sx9s20f7xa9udt

Next, based on your "Dosha" - try to alter your lifestyle accordingly, specially your diet. If possible include meditation and Yoga in your routine.

I would mention here that its not necessary to get into herbal and ayurvedic medicines as such. This is because, simple vegetables/roots available at your local vegetable vendor - such as Garlic, Ginger, Raw turmeric, Tulsi leaves, Aloe vera - do just as well - without the fear of being adultrated with heavy metals as is the case with some ayurvedic medicines available in stores.

If you include these lifestyle changes according to your dosha and incorporate simple herbs and roots in your daily diet, you may began to notice improvement gradually.

My suggestion is to consult an ophthalmologist. An optician at an upscale store told my mom that she has cataract. Checked with a doctor and all she needed was a new pair of glasses.

I too face this issue of allergy cold and throat infection. This is what I do:-
  • Drink a hot beverage before bed (I prefer tea but it can be anything).
  • Completely avoid curd/raita etc for dinner.
  • Keep the car windows rolled up and use AC 100% of the time.
  • Make sure to cover my mouth and nose if I foresee exposure to dust.
All this plus regular exercise (3-4 times a week) has reduced the frequency of infection to a great extent. My doc had prescribed a Nasal spray to use daily but I have reduced it to occations only when I am exposed to heavy dust something.

I too have a similar problem of sore throat with every season change. Each time (for past 1 and half year now) I have been given a dose of Antibiotics which take around 3-5 days to cure.

Just like you, I have been advised to stay away from col beverages. Additionally, I have to be cautious about consuming oil and fast food items.

Even now I have a sore throat and have decided to go with Homeopathic medicine.

I have the same problem. I get a sore throat by - ketchup, mirinda, Fanta, ice creams etc. it's kind of irritating and this leads to fever if not treated. This has also lead to ear infection because my sinus does not let me drain out my cold. I have gone through allopathy as well as homeopathy but still have not found a solution. I even tried vitamin C for a month but to no affect. Next on my list is the Amla juice from patanjali

Anyone got a solution for this?

Multiple stones is not even a medically treatable condition. Infact it can even worsen if it only gets relieved partially.
I would suggest you to consult a Surgeon and get the treatment if you have the indications. You'll need it sooner or later. No need to get it done right now unless its causing a lot of symptoms or there are any other indications. Laparoscopic would be the safest approach.

It would be better if you consult a Dermatologist and a Rheumatologist side by side. PM me if you need references in Vellore.

Hi akshay,

If replacing an old silver filling is the only procedure being done, there shouldn't be any pain at all. It is a painless procedure.

If the filling happens to be deep (and closer to the pulp), the tooth might elicit quite a bit of sensitivity which would only get exaggerated with a drill.

As far as my experience goes, sensitivity cannot be controlled by Local Anaesthesia.

A visit to a dentist shouldn't be accompanied with phobia, if you trust your dentist, that goes a long way in making your appointment much pleasant.

Good luck!

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Dear Doctors,
Since 3 months, I am facing a peculiar problem. I am not able to sit for a long time(Read more than 15 minutes). My buttocks starts aching. The moment I get up and stand/start walking, Pain will be gone

I consulted 2-3 allopathic doctors and they suggested Muscle relaxants (Mucospas ) but it is not relieved. Post, I also consulted Homeopathic doctors, but this also did not help

PS: No x-ray or any other diagnostic methods were applied so far for this treatment. However, for my lower back, physiotherapy was suggested and I went through 6-8 sittings

Can this be relieved at all? Please suggest any method that can relieve my pain
