Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Thanks for the responses!

I'm never without my water bottle too, and the first thing I do after waking, still sitting on the bed, is drink water. But I don't drink multiple litres of it every day. Sleeping and living in AC rooms is dehydrating.

On the other hand, add in the tea, etc etc (which purists do not allow) then that increases my consumption quite a lot. And, even the solid foods that we eat, let alone the very wet ones mentioned, consist, as do our own bodies, largely of water.

Really, though, I'm distressed to think of people, especially the young, reducing their water intake because they do not want to have to visit unsuitable toilets.

I don't take the thing lightly. On one occasion I did forget to drink fluids to the extent that I became dehydrated enough to feel very ill and require an afternoon on a drip.

It's just that I have no time for the magic-minimum numbers that were probably made up to sell books. Mind you, it was a wise person who told, "When you feel you need something, but can't workout what, it is probably water."

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

A general question on use of (listerine) mouthwash :

Is it advisable to use it everyday? If someone does not have any active dental/oral issues, how frequently can they use?

Reason for asking: Was speaking with my dad earlier today and on some topic he mentioned that they have been using Listerine everyday for the last 6-months or so. I was appalled!

Why appalled: I recall reading articles (in scientific journals as well) that use of mouthwash on a regular basis can kill even good bacteria in the mouth that helps in good care and digestion process. Over a longer period of time, regular use of mouthwash could be "potentially harmful."

Personally, I use it about twice a month or once fortnightly.

One more question - now that my cousin is stopping the iron tablets for a week, should spinach also be stopped. Cousin was having spinach juice for a month because it's supposed to be good for anemia. Can spinach juice also cause constipation? Is it better to eat it cooked?

Cooked whole spinach leaves (rather the juice) should not cause constipation because it has enough fibers which will prevent constipation.

Cooked spinach juice will not do anything to ease constipation. Please ask him to eat a lot of cooked spinach in form of curries/sambhar etc to see a positive effect on the bowel movement.

Spinach juice was not to ease constipation. It was to increase iron (because of anemia).

A diet high in Iron can cause constipation.

You may want to check, https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/in...tmono-912/iron

Under the side effects:

Quote:
Iron is LIKELY SAFE for most people when it is taken by mouth or injected into the vein in appropriate amounts. However, it can cause side effects such as stomach upset and pain, constipation or diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Taking iron supplements with food seems to reduce some of these side effects. However, food can also reduce how well the body can absorb iron. Iron should be taken on an empty stomach if possible. If it causes too many side effects, it can be taken with food. Try to avoid taking iron with foods containing dairy products, coffee, tea, or cereals.
Is your relative a vegetarian?

He may want to include Almonds, Dates and Pumpkin in his diet. To take a break from Spinach monotony.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Hi Guys,

I have a question regarding my eye prescription and wanted opinion from experts. I recently went to an ophthalmologist for an eye check up and realized that my eye number has increased. He has suggested me to go for Lasik but I am not yet comfortable doing any procedure on my eyes so will stick to wearing glasses.

I have visited a couple of opticians in my area and have realized there are a bunch of options for glasses. The most popular choice and the first one to be suggested was Crizal by Essilor. They will cost me around 4.9k. I have been given other options like Zeiss and Nikon which are in the similar price range (4.5-5k).

All these places have also offered me unbranded glasses which are significantly cheaper but the opticians are suggesting me to stay away from unbranded ones as the quality of glass may be inferior. I visited Lenskart where I was given three choices - their own brand which will cost around 2k, a Japanese brand called Tokai which is 4.5k and a German brand called Rodenstock which was 7k. I am comfortable spending around 4-5k on glasses and wanted to know the opinion of doctors about what would be the best option.

The opticians have told me that there is hardly any difference between Nikon, Zeiss or Essilor so going for any of their products would be the safest option. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Apologies in advance if this is the wrong forum for my query.

Check if they have Seiko lenses. They are excellent quality and very VFM. Crizal and other similar lenses for my prescription cost 9k++ in several shops but I always end up getting mine made from the same shop because they are the only ones offering Seiko lenses at 4-4.5k.

For how long is it safe to take plain milk of magnesia or Cremaffin (Milk of Magnesia + Liquid Paraffin) + stool softener (Docusate) regularly? Is it ok to take it for a couple of months with iron?

Is Dexorange less likely to cause constipation than Rarecap or Softeron?

Could you please share the shop details where you get these Seiko lenses?

I would like to get it done for my next change.

I'm from Mumbai so I don't think you would be able to visit the same shop !

But anyways in case it helps anyone the shop is Shahs Vision Express in Santacruz W near the police station.
Note the name because there is also a vision express and also a Shah opticians nearby !

Also I am not affiliated with the shop and usual disclaimer stuff
