re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Any dieticians in the house? I want to put on weight and I need some consultation. I've already posted in the body-buiding thread but I think I might find answers here as well.

Update.

We finally got the root canal treatment done for my son. The treatment was done for one of the teeth and it was a bit traumatic for the kid (but that was expected). He was administered a local anesthesia via a single injection in the gums. Post that the infection was cleaned and apparently as per the doctors there was quite a lot of infection in all 3 of his canals. There was a bit of bleeding during the cleaning and apparently he may have experienced some pain during the process. It was impossible for me to know whether it was the pain or the psychological trauma which was causing him to cry. But as per the doctors the area was sufficiently numb.

We'll put the crown next week and then check up the rest of his teeth.

Question for the dentists - just out of curiosity. What is the advantage of doing a Root Canal on a 4 year old as against just removing the infected teeth? Are these teeth going to fall off anyway?

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Two reasons:

1. That tooth will fall away after a few years and can be used for eating and a missing tooth is not psychologically good for the kid as other kids may tease him.

2. If the deciduous tooth falls of early, the adjacent and opposing teeth migrate and close the gap. This will leave no place for the permanent tooth to erupt in the proper place. It will then erupt in a slanted pattern and future orthodontic treatment becomes a necessity in that case. In fact sometimes, if a milk tooth hasn't fallen at the right time, we need to extract it to necessitate proper eruption of the permanent tooth.

From what the doctors explained to me and from what I read on the net - treating is better than extraction. If a tooth is extracted, the new tooth that comes out and it's neighbors would not be aligned because of the gap. This requires a spacer to be fixed in the gap. As long as the natural tooth is present the next set of teeth would follow their natural growth path.

This is what I understood and hence our decision for root canal. Dentists on the forum can throw more light on this.

Re: Astin 20?

Is 'Astin 20' (anti-cholesterol drug) necessary if one is above 75+ years? The side effects of rashes and itching is making us to look for alternatives. Doctors/Physicians, are there any better alternatives to this medicine?

Please advise!

Scapular fractures heal well due to muscle attachments on both sides of the bone. The shoulder joint should be intact rest no problem.

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

My wife started getting acute headache since last three weeks. Pain is concentrated just above both the eyes - and is acute. Becomes lesser if light pressure is given to the forehead, again just above the eyes. Pain is acute and is disrupting her normal lifestyle.

She has been dismissing it telling she used to get headache long time back due to her history of having sinus infection. But I'm worried if we should get it checked for migraine.

Any suggestions?

Zirconium crowns in case of RCT

Guys,

Till now I never visited, rather none from my family visited dentist for anything. This is the first time my wife got some tooth infection and doctor recommended RCT and zirconium crown. Just wanted to know what is the current cost of this crown? Doc quoted 6K per tooth with 6Yr warranty. is this the right cost?. Also Can anyone here comment on durability of the crown, She need to go for multiple front tooth RCT.

Regards

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

I recently had a swelling in the neck behind the ear. Initially doctors were suspecting an abscess, but an MRI revealed a haematoma in the sternocleidomastoid muscle. I was advised rest, painkillers and antibiotics for 5 days. Now the pain is gone, swelling is reduced by 75%.

I was also blood-tested for ASO, RA and about 12 other things. All blood reports are normal except that Vitamins B12 and D3 are deficient.

I am 35/M weighing 77kgs having a non-veg diet (no red meat). Also walk daily and exposed to the sun for atleast an hour daily.

Any suggestions on getting the B12 and D3 levels up? I will be visiting my GP soon.

hi, I am a prosthodontist (Specialist for crowns and bridges) so I guess I can comment on your post.
If it is a back tooth, Zirconia Monolithic crowns are preferable these days. for Front teeth, we need to go for layered zirconia crowns. The prices vary with doctor to doctor and also depend upon the brand of the Zirconia crown. The Cost of Zirconia crowns is generally higher than the metal ceramic crowns. The cost of 6K per crown seems very decent.(On the cheaper side in my opinion). Check thoroughly with the quality of work.

How to prevent passing on my hearing impairment

I am hearing impaired. I suffer from severe hearing loss in both the ears and I use hearing aids. Hearing impairment runs in our family, from my mother's side. About 30% of our family members are affected.

I have consulted several ENT doctors and everyone says it is 'degeneration' (not the exact word but similar) of my sound carrying nerves. It is not curable and the only solution is using the aid. One doctor commented that if treated early in life I could have undergone surgery to cure it.

My worry is how can I prevent passing it on to my four year old son.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Re: Cardiologists for senior citizens

Please suggest some best cardiologists in south of bangalore to consult, for a senior citizen aged around 75 years. He has blockage of around 70% in his main artery and around 80% blockage in other 2 arteries, hence would like to know about options of an angioplasty at his age or he has to control it with medicines. These days, he is feeling pain in his lower back/shoulders very often.

Go to http://www.jayadevacardiology.com

The director (Dr.Manjunath) is really good. He will give honest/correct opinion unlike doctors in business minded hospitals. Thanks to his correct opinion, my father-in-law was saved from unnecessary treatments back in 2005.
