T-BHP is such a wonderful place.

B&T you have more friends than you actually thought you have. Just look at all the help.

Pls keep updating the thread, give us that number, lets me call and share a joke or two.

Totally agree with you. Help has literally poured in. I am extremely thankful to everyone who has helped, showed concern and provided valuable advice (one piece that almost landed me a date ).

Viva Team Bhp, and I salute the spirit of Team Bhpians. I thank each and every one who has lent a helping hand, and helped through this thread.

As of now, the update is that I have not received a single call since morning. I feel gloomy and lonely. Maybe I miss her.

Hi...

Wnt through all the 6 pages and empathise with your trauma. I am a Banker myself based out of Delhi. Should she threaten you again, you may take me on a conference call with her. I will put an end to this story.

Any which ways, you are legally safe and no section under Banking Regulation act can implicate you.. They just cant do anything to you. Its a tactics employed by collection agents to effect a recovery somehow. Anyways there commissions are linked to the amount of recovery from a single account.

Best thing is to file a FIR at the nearest police station and let the charming lady know about it...See certainly would agree to go out on a date with you and probably wud foot the bill as well !

Cheers and enjoy the Tamasha sir !

B&T by now you have started ignoring the calls.

My suggestions is next time you get a call, get the address of the branch and her name. Send a Red Kachha to the branch as a token of appreciation for calling you so religiously.

B&T, you heard from most on what to do and I won't repeat this again. While, what I'm going to narrate has little reference to your particular case, I for one would've certainly used this tactic that I very successfully (strike rate matching that of Don bradman) use with telecallers, bankers, loan givers, loan recoverers etc.,

Here it goes:

Caller: Good morning, I'm Ashish (any name) from ICICI. Am I speaking to b C Gurudutt.

I: good morning ji, haan my bol raha hoon.

Caller: (goes into his sales talk like a parrot)

I: Bhai saheb, aap thodi der mein phone karenge. My drive kar raha hoon

Caller: Jee Sir, my aapko 10 minute mein call karta hoon.

Now, this fellow calls up exactly after 10 minutes and the above conversation is repeated again.

This goes on for a couple of times and finally the Caller irritated and exasperated asks, what I had been waiting for:

Caller: Sirji, aap abhi tak drive hi kar rahe hain?

I: Haanji, my autorickshaw chala raha hoon.

Believe me, these unsolicited calls have reduced almost by 80%. And no, I've not registerd my number with the DND.

One more method of dealing with pesky tele-callers:

Suppose telecaller of bank ABC calls to sell credit card:

Telecaller-ABC: Hello, sir, this is Alana-falana from ABC.... we're offering a free credit card, blah blah blah.

Me: I'm busy right now, please give me your number and I shall call you back.

Telecaller-ABC: Sure! It's 98XXYYZZ.

Me: Ok, thanks, Alana-falana! Will get back to you.

.
.
.

After a while, tele-caller of bank XYZ calls to sell their credit card.

Telecaller-XYZ: Hello, sir, this is CallerDrone from XYZ.... we're offering a free credit card, blah blah blah.

Me: Hi CallerDrone. I've already got that credit card, but I'll give you the name and number of a friend who's interested in getting a credit card.

Telecaller-XYZ: Sure! Let me know the name and number.

Me: The name is Alana-falana and the number is 98XXYYZZ.

Telecaller-XYZ: Thanks for the reference.

Me: Glad to be of service. Enjoy!!

Never tried it out as yet, but will definitely do so.

I: Haanji, my autorickshaw chala raha hoon.

hey i was in office reading through Ajay's dilemma and tryst with the collection agencies - this got me floored. The entire office is now wondering the reason for my abnormal burst of laughter that send me reeling.

PS: Ajay bhai - do not worry. I have had such calls coming in from Airtel (when they failed to disconnect my delhi number and send me bills for the next 3 months even when I was not in Delhi. Thankfully i had a recipt from an Airtel office - and a police diary later they not only took away the charges but offered Rs 5k as damages) & Citibank (though i am their preferred customer almost every other month they falter with my utility bills and cc charges. Thankfully i keep a print screens of the every transaction made and a mail to higher authorities sets it right).

Anyway my colleague too faced this problem where he was a referance - he just told the collection guy that he stayed in kidderpore in calcutta and if he can very well come down for the collection but he could not gaurantee hsi return with the payment. plunk.......no calls after that.

That is hilarious.

Should be in Sam's "Life's like that" thread.

Here's one I use (although it's taking this thread wayyyyyyy off topic) :

Caller : Sir, would you be interested in a loan?

Me : Please speak with my secretary.
(hand the phone over to my friend)

Caller : Sir/madam I am calling regarding _______________

My friend : Please speak with my secretary.
(hand the phone over to my friend)

....and usually by the time it reaches the third person, the caller hangs up.

[Yeah yeah, we're bored in college, we find entertainment anywhere]

OT:

I had a friend who spoke German. The moment he got such an unsolicited call, he would break into German. The poor guy/girl at the other end would simply hang up.

I have tried the same technique but using my mother tongue Malayalam.

Note to Moderators:
You could actually start a new thread on how to ward off the phoney spirits
