Before finalising I did try the fluted, jubilee and in the same
mint green they had ready for another client, all stickers on as in my pics above, but still gave me a good idea. It is absolute jewellery with that fluted and Jubilee, the bezel would catch and reflect all the light, there is no way I could wear that to work related events without looking crass, or for that matter even 'smart casuals' would have been a mismatch. Excellent dress piece though.
And no you cannot change it to fluted later on. You can however change the Oystersteel bracelet to Jubilee with a wait of 1-2 years post purchase date from the service center.
Hello friends and fellow petrolheads.
I am going for a family vacation to Switzerland and northern Italy in the month of May.
We will be going to Zurich, Lucerne, Milan and Venice.
I have been saving for quite sometime and want to buy a midrange watch ( €2000-€4000 i.e. approx 2L-4L) during my trip.
Had some basic questions-
1. Is it cheaper to buy in Switzerland or in Italy on account of the VAT refund difference ( 7% vs 22%) ?
2. I want to get a chronograph watch in this range. My options are Tudor Blackbay chrono / Longiness Master collection chronograph / Norqain Freedom 60 / Longines Blue eye big / used omega Speedmaster 38 / used tagheur Carrera Glassbox. Will need some help from fellow bhpians!
3. What is a good AD to go to? I was thinking Bucherer in Lucerne.
Please do help a fellow horology nut in this exciting and big purchase!

From Switzerland get Longiness or atleast I did that few years back. Same watch was cheaper by 150 euros in Interlaken vs Rome as in Switzerland I found brand offers more up to date. Also tax free in Switzerland was up front on showing paasport vs Italy where payput is at airport or tax free shops. However tax back in Switzerland is 3% or was more then Italy
One thing I can say for sure shop in Switzerland but do check same model in different shops as retail discounts vary.
Also same watch was cheaper in Budapest vs above two. I dont know why.
Presenting my daily wear - Carl F Bucherer (Cfb, hereon).
This beauty sees 15hrs+ of wrist time every day, 7 days a week throughout the last 2.5y of ownership.
Cfb's dial has this very nice dynamic play of grades of color blue when sun hits at it from different angles (sunburst?) and the exhibition case back gives a pristine & full view into the movement similar to a manually wound watch. Thats the beauty of a peripheral rotor.
Admittedly, I do sometimes like to just hear its ticking beats😅

In my experience, watches in Switzerland are generally more expensive than most other places despite the tax refund. I bought a watch from Ethos Watch Boutique in Bengaluru a couple of years ago and it worked out significantly cheaper than in Singapore, Switzerland and Germany. All were places I checked personally.
It may also depend on the brand. Rolex usually doesn't offer discounts to keep their image of luxury. I'm not sure how Tudor work their sales. Norqain being a new brand does offer aggressive pricing. All the best! Shopping for watches is fun!
I am looking to sell my Tudor Black Bay 58 which is literally in mint and unworn condition. Does anyone have any pointers on which would be a good place to sell watches in India, where there are genuine buyers and fair prices can be expected?

As a starting point get a quotation from Ethos Second Movement maybe of what they'd pay to buy it off you. That will give you a very heavily discounted base price reference.
I think they do sales on commission basis also (without buying it off you outright) so you could discuss how that works - it will allow you to set your own realistic expected price as well.

Congratulations on getting a collectible.
I've contemplated enlisting on the elusive waitlist but could never get myself to do it.
Was there any change from MSRP?
I dream of owning a Daytona but I hear the wait times are more than 10 years.
Casio Lineage M170TSE
It comes with all the qualities I admire in life for it is loaded with features (most of them useful), is a blend of modern and retro (this is my second watch for when I don't want to use my Apple Watch so retro is what I am going for) and extremely value for money.
1- Titanium Body
2- Titanium Band - Makes it unbelievably light
3- Sapphire Crystal
4- Tough Solar with expected battery replacement around 12-15 years
5- Radio controlled automatic sync with atomic clocks in 6 countries so you never have to set time ever! (Sadly not available in countries I frequent)
6- Digital Analogue watch mechanism where in there is no conventional mechanical crown to adjust time but you set it digitally on the LCD display and then the dials move in high speed to your desired time and start from there, looks extremely cool and like those time machine movies.
I think it is like the analogue dials in our cars which are not actually analogue but controlled digitally and some of them make a full swoop before starting, it is somewhat of that tech.
All this for around INR 16,000 all inclusive (Imported from Amazon Germany)
The only con is the LCD viewing angles are not very good.

That's a lovely piece. It's going to be a collector's item in a few years. Rolex has decided to close/end the CFB brand. C’est la vie!

I know :disappointed, so much of legacy will just go poof! The other day I saw Jaquet Droz shut shop while I had
this lovely piece on my radar. Sigh!
Also, idk but I have started this itch to bring in a companion to (or trade) Cfb. Something about this 40mm Radiomir Quaranta makes me keep looking at it more or less everyday lol:
I get lume (a weakness of Cfb!) but I loose exhibition caseback so its not been an easy decision.

Nothing quite like a Panerai Radiomir. Those traditional wire lugs, that gorgeous Tonneau shape and the delicious Lume plus all that wonderful Naval history made it a no brainer for me.

I would suggest call Second Movement and Chrono Seconds. I gave an Omega Seamaster Chrono a few months ago and got a strong price.

Very happy for you. Indeed, that Rolex ‘Grail Watch’ purchase always feels very special. Well done!

MRP changes a couple of times a year I believe, you may check on the official Rolex site, it shows current prices all inclusive.

To be clear no Rolex dealer will ever give a walk-in a Daytona, they may take your name down but the wait list quotes are fictitious. Watches such as Daytona, Submariner, ‘Pepsi’ GMT etc., are prioritised for existing customers plain and simple.
When they receive a unit(s) of such high demand pieces, they go through their existing customers who have requested it first, and often they get snapped up. In the rare case they do not, the AD will then move on to existing customers who might not have put their name in the queue offering them the allocation, once again it’s highly unlikely that a Daytona or Submariner will be declined.
If it passes all these ‘tiers’ it is then offered to a walk-in, even then I do not see a Daytona being given out as a first purchase the dealer will just sit on it, but perhaps you might hear of a rare walk-in Submariner buyer.

What is the wait list for an all Green (Also know as Hulk. Not with a black dial) and Pepsi livery Submariner?
These two are borderline impossible to get in New Zealand, hence I ask.
In fact, the Green with a Black dial Submariner has a wait time of almost 2 years! They are not accepting names for any other version cause they have no clue over their wait times. The Rolex store said they have stopped making the Pepsi version. The Submariner retails for $19,300 NZD.
Well done on the new watch.
