In Russia, where the density of prey is much lower, territories vary in size from 200 to 400kmē for females and 800 to 1,000kmē for males"

Clearly prey base in AP forests has dramatically fallen. This renders most ranges unviable for tiger sustenance.

Ulhas Karanth, wildlife researcher lists prey base decimation as the single biggest reason for the dwindling tiger population in India. Seeing the state several forests in AP are I am not surprised that not a single tiger has been seen or photographed in AP !

The need of the hour really is to ensure sufficient prey base, water and
let the animals thrive.
Hi DKG, I totally agree with you regarding the preybase point. I have in my last 10 to 20 visits to NSTR have noticed a decline in the wild ungulate population, we should do something about this too.

Since the crisis seems to be over, can we not go back to NSTR?

I'm going to Kunthala waterfalls tomorrow. Will leave at sharp 8 AM in the morning from my place. Expected time of reach is 1:00 PM. Going there just for fun so, I will be leaving back to Hyderabad on the same day. People may join us (going there along with my friend).

hey folks, I hate to butt in and sound like a tool here but where will all these discussions about preserving prey base and maintaining forest cover lead? arent we overlooking one irrefutable fact?

our resources are finite. most of our planet's surface is underwater. we spread and multiply without check on the rest of it. then we wonder where all the prey and the trees are disappearing?
we need land to live and even more land to cultivate our food. it obviously cant be done on deserts, so we start eating away fertile forest land.

Ive never said it before but Ill say it out loud here. OVERPOPULATION. thats the problem. find a viable way to convince people not to multiply recklessly and you will solve most of the problems that are plaguing the planet.

As I'm not too sure of the route, I would suggest travelling in convoy. What is the meeting point and what time.

@ Venkat @ Rajkiran: Your seats in the Toofan Mail (Storm Express in english) are fully confirmed. No RAC/WL

I would suggest coming over to my place by 5.30 AM so that you can park your cars. Alternatively I can pick you up on the way as well since we would be heading towards Medchal anyways.

@ Rajkiran: I stay in Punjagutta and will be travelling to Paradise Circle wherein will turn left towards Medchal.

So please let me know both of you what you prefer.

Cheers

The shortest route to Mancherial as per Bing Maps is NH7 to Ramayampet, turn left onto SH-6 via Karimnagar onto NH-16 and Mancherial.
