Industrial insulation manufacturing firms should approach our ageing superstars as brand ambassadors.
Our superstars are fully "insulated" against reality and public perceptions.

Has that happened at any time? The problem is that people have very short memories, and one win changes the dynamics. We lost to New Zealand 3-0, but after winning in Perth, everything was forgotten. Everyone started thinking we could beat Australia easily.

Additionally, the coach sits outside, and it's the players who have to play according to the plan. I guess it's high time players are held accountable for their performance after each series.

Bumrah can't bowl from both ends - Rohit Sharma’s warning to bowlers !

No comments for batters.

I mean really, Time for introspection, it was the batting pseudo stars and his below par captaincy which let us down.

You nailed it, rest Sharma and Kohli, (send them far away from the team) Bumrah and the boys will do wonders, Gautam should not leave the hotel, Ajit give it a try and see the results.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The term paper tigers spring back to mind after the Adelaide test, the team was finalized basis 'Names' rather than recent performance.

Why was Washington replaced in the first place, he was bowling well, batting was good enough to be called a proper batsman in the test set-up, he looks like some-one who can easily hang around and let other lower order batsmen play around him.

Virat & Rohit have become really good friends in the last 3-4 years and this strong lobby is really hurting the Indian cricket, additionally, now Gambhir is also in the mix.

Remember the `22 BGT in Australia where the team performed better once Virat left, I believe, this team can do much better if not weighed down by these 3 big names.

This one. We hardly play with the pink ball, so the odds were always stacked against us in Adelaide.

The Australian first innings was the rare occasion where the Indian bowlers struggled to find the perfect length. But I think it's too much to expect Bumrah & co to bring us back from the brink game after game, while the batters struggle to even post a total of 200.

Their "fans" might fight like rabid dogs on social media, but Virat & Rohit are managed by the same PR team, who most definitely instigate these fan-wars online to gain impressions which are shown to brands so that both command enormous endorsement fees. Nothing wrong with it, but it starts leaving a bad taste when the onfield performances have been bad for years on end. But then again, we have had a superstar culture in Indian cricket, and almost all of our stars have overstayed on the basis of their past clout. Not sure what's the way forward, the fan in me says Ro-Ko will bounce back in Brisbane, but I also feel playing Jadeja/Jurel & Washi in their place will improve the team.

It's too early to say whether Gambhir is good or bad. India have lost a lot under him, but he inherited a declining batting line up that can't play spin (and pace too). But he has also blooded in youngsters like NKR & Harshit. He also brought back Washi from the wilderness.

His only job is to identify and correct the same. That is what is the only KPI for him in this position that he is holding. Not indulging with media, whenever an opportunity arises.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The Perth win was a great one after the first innings wipeout. Despite the win, for me, India were always the underdogs going into the Adelaide Pink ball. Here's why:

1. Australia have been dominating Pink Ball tests for a while now and facing Starc and Cummins under lights is a different proposition!

2. Rohit's form has been a worry for a while now and has been getting out to full swinging deliveries. Kohli has also been blowing hot and cold of late. Sad that these two veterans are not helping the teams cause.

3. Rana's selection seems like a miss, Arshdeep might have been a better choice he pitches up and gives the ball a chance to swing.

4. Ashwin, despite the wickets , im afraid was not a right choice. His batting on pitches such as these is always suspect.

Hopefully normal service will resume in Brisbane. India need to ring in some changes. Take bold hard decisions. Doubt Gambhir and Co. will do that though.

Absolutely! Gambhir's biggest challenge is to improve Indian batting. I just felt it's too early to pass judgement on his tenure as a coach. I really don't mind his tu-tu-main-main style of media interactions in the hope that one of these days he will go off on Sanju Manju

Edit: Just read online that in the last few test matches, the only two good batting performances; Bangalore vs NZ & Perth vs Aus have come in the second innings. India have collapsed repeatedly in first innings resulting in defeat in the last 4 games out of 5.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Both of them are hanging around to try to win WTC and Champions trophy I think, looks like chances to get into WTC final are getting slimmer.

We will have to Endure them for one more time in Champions Trophy.

Thanks to South Africa who lost the T20I world cup rather then we winning it, or else these guys would have hung around till 2026 World cup also, sorry state of affairs.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I am absolutely astonished & dismayed by the kind of shots played by indian batsmen which lead them to getting out. It seems clear that they do not want to grind it out and instead they want to play T20 brand of cricket in test matches.

Currently, our batting unit is in complete shambles. Pujara, who is a test match specialist is currently benched. Why are the likes of Rohit Sharma in the test team, when clearly he is not a test match player, he is unable to handle a moving ball. Then Virat Kohli, though he has been the backbone of the team after sachin tendulkar & others, however clearly his time is also up and he is really weak for the past few years against the moving ball. We need to bring in new batsmen to the team.

The only good point about the test team is that we currently have very competent pace bowlers and good bench strength of pacers. Even the spinners part is taken care of with ashwin & jadeja and the reserve spinners.

Re: The Cricket Thread

You can write as much you want. But as long as the "hero" culture is not done away with, things will be as they are. There is absolutely no place for Rohit in the team based on his form, even physically he seems unfit. India has so much talent in the batting department and that is being wasted for no reason. Bumrah has a sound head and doesn't get bogged down by captaincy, may be performed better. He should have been continued with the same team and Rohit made to sit on the bench (let us say due to some bug). Sometimes, a small change messes up every thing. Cheers.

Re: The Cricket Thread

With today’s win against Sri Lanka, South Africa need just one more Test win to qualify for the WTC final!

Later this month, South Africa will play 2 tests against Pakistan at home.
