Re: The Cricket Thread

Here is my prediction - Rohit Sharma will play the innings of his test career; India will win; Rohit will hang up his boots on a high.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Australia clearly had a plan to get to a lead of 300+ quickly and they managed to get 275. Now the biggest test for our batting will unfold - more than the question of winning, can we even survive 50+ overs given our recent dismal form with the bat?

Re: The Cricket Thread

Oh man, it’s a shame I have to be in office today, damn you WFO. I don’t think india will play for a draw either. A result is what we are looking at unless the real impact player of this match(rain ofcourse) decides to show up.

Bold decision by the Aussies but am sure our fragile batting order would have given them the confidence

Re: The Cricket Thread

In an ideal world, I would have been courageous of predicting India winning this match

Quick 30's from openers, 100 from Kohli in 90+ Strike rate, 100 from Rohit in 130+ Strike rate, winning the match in nail biter with rain interruptions. Kohli and Rohit retire after their heroic innings, we all forgetting every failure and praising them as absolute legends, whats-app statuses and what not!

But given current form of our batting lineup, I'm afraid another collapse is waiting and India to loose the match. A draw is also possible with help of rain.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The Australians have been ultra conservative in this match and very defensive.

1st innings - They over played in trying to get 400 runs. They should have declared around 350 and made India play in the evening of 2nd day. Rather they kept on playing till the 3rd day morning!

2nd innings - Setting India a target of 275 in the 4th innings and that too when so much of rain prediction around. 200 would have been more than sufficient!

Overall very very ultra defensive Captaincy by Cummins.

If they had set 200 target, Rohit and Jaiswal would have opened and gone all guns blazing as they did against Bangladesh last time. Aussies played smart and made sure they have a good target wherein they also hold a chance to win the game if rain did not interrupt. 50 0vers 275 target would be anybody's game but rain has played spoilsport now.

That is the reason I said it's a very very conservative captaincy by Cummins. At least Aussies would have had 30 overs to bowl at India and remember this is an Indian team very low on confidence with 3-0 drubbing at Home to NZ! and they have been all out for 36, 46 and what not!

And India have two walking wickets (Kohli and Rohit), so Aussies needed to take only 8 wickets and not 10!

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think Australia escaped in this case. Had rain not interrupted I am sure India would have chased this and won. India will not feel relieved but disappointed that they missed an opportunity.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Ashwin announces retirement from International current, that came out of no where.

Probably one of the sane cricketers who wants to go on a high rather then become a mockery, what a servant of the game he has been.

Second highest wicket taker for India behind legendary Anil Kumble, take a bow, along with ball in his hand, he saved us innumerable times with the bat as well.

I think with next tour of England a bit far away and we pretty much eliminated from WTC, it made sense to go on a high. He is anyway not first choice in Overseas condition.

I think it is not a right statement, he is a very thinking cricketer and as I wrote above with England series next, he might not have been picked or played so went out with head held high.

Absolutely, thanks a lot to him for all he did for Indian cricket, he retires as a legend with his head held high and on his own terms.

Also he could have easily said that next will be his last match and taken a farewell match, I am sure he would have played, but thought of team composition as Jadeja would be a better choice. Rohit and Virat will play on saying they are just a knock away.

There is no home test series scheduled in the near future, so that definitely would have been on his mind.
