Make what you will of that

Also, I don't think yo-yo test was ever a problem for him. He has always passed it.
A travesty if it's True. Quite shameful from bcci and selectors if they allow this. Look at Aussie mentality and structure. Steve Smith who is in better form and better fitness quietly announced his retirement because Australia will field the best possible 11 to lift the cup. They don't care about names and reputations. Accountability is the primary reason Australia has most of the trophies.

Anyways, our current ICC nemesis meets us again in Finals. For such a small nation and cricket board, NZ have to be applauded for always punching above their weight.

Jadeja also retired with RoKo last year, so if he bows out on Sunday too...

Just realised that they haven't groomed a new captain all these years....
Shreyas IMO is the best candidate but he is not even in the probables. Then who will it be? KL? Axar Patel?
I really doubt, Rohit will retire on his own. A nudge will be required for him. His ODI and test form have sharply dipped. And if we win the CT, no one is going to bell this cat. Imagine a media leak that someone dared to oust an ODI WC Finalist and T20 WC, CT winner!

Kohli still makes the ODI team, IMO. He still plays and delivers consistently when others fail.

- As will happen with Bumrah.
- Next, SKY for T20I: Honestly, I don't see this happening long term.
I think, it'll be Bumrah for ODIs/ Tests and Sky for T20s (for now). Pandya is the reason we play 4 spinners in ODIs/ T20s, so he's a guaranteed start in those teams and in future he'll be mostly captaining the side.

Completely agree. As much as Rohit has done and captained amazingly, a CT win should be the high that nudges him to retirement (which I'm sure won't happen). He simply isn't fit enough to play ODI WC'27.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think Steven Smith retiring from ODI and saying that he is still available for T20s is an irony in itself. Why would Cricket Australia pick Steven Smith for T20s? Shouldnt he have retired from T20s too? Actually he should have retired from T20s too and focused just on Tests.

Anyway, from an indian cricket standpoint, I think Rohit should retire from Tests, his high risk style will not pay off in Tests, especially in overseas conditions. And its time to bring in some youngsters who can learn with time. Rohit is still good in ODIs, i think we cannot deny that. His quickfire 30-40 runs in the first 5-6 overs always releases pressure for the middle order. But the other side of the argument is that would he be the right option for WC 2027? Im someone who does not think that everything should be planned keeping the WC in mind. It cannot be when it’s still 2 years ahead. And being a top team which does consistently well across the world is more important than winning the WC.

I would rather have a team that is able to match up to Australia, England and South Africa in their home conditions than an occasional world cup winner who cannot perform overseas.

Anyway, lets see how the Champions trophy final pans out.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India will surely win the Champions Trophy today as New Zealand team is not good enough to beat India on spinning tracks. I doubt if Rohit will retire after the Champions Trophy as he has already told that he would like to play in 2027 WC.

Re: The Cricket Thread

KL has completed his Redemption arc.

Last game or not Rohit is a Fantastic Captain and player in ODI.

AXAR, Jaddu and Pandya the clutch Allrounder's.

3 ICC white ball tournament finals in a row.

Winning two of them being UNBEATEN.

What a Fantastic Ride

Re: The Cricket Thread

That was a well-fought victory, certainly not something that was handed to India.

Kudos to the NZ team for some excellent fielding!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Congratulations everyone!

A brilliant chase. The pessimist in me was fearing the worst when we lost quick 2-3 wickets!

This tournament was a complete team effort.

Last ODI for Rohit, Shami & Jadeja? I think so.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Great match, thought it was in the bag initially but batters took it slow later on which made me doubt my thoughts. Outcome is positive, which is all that matters.
As Eddy mentioned, this will probably be the last match for Shami, Jaddu and Rohit. They will be missed.

Congratulations to all of us

Re: The Cricket Thread

I’m not someone who has short term memory but Rohit still has at least one year’s worth of cricket left in him but he won’t get an high like this to retire on. I for one will miss him in white ball cricket

Re: The Cricket Thread

So no PCB representatives for presentation ceremony, sorry state. The debate of India having an advantage will go on for long and taint this victory a bit.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Congratulations to Team India.

They were consistent and everyone played their part well.

I think ICC/BCCI should have been magnanimous to allow the host nation representative to be part of the presentation ceremony. How long and how far will ICC/BCCI keep rubbing its shoes on Pakistan's face?

All I can say is that Time and tide changes for everyone.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Congratulations, Team India!

Rohit Sharma got going in the final and it was almost as if India would cruise to a victory at 105-0, but suddenly New Zealand turned the tide with 3 quick wickets and the match got a bit interesting, however, the middle order stepped up and got us over the line.

Congratulations on a well-deserved victory!

Re: The Cricket Thread

Kiwi superb you fought for every run, didn't throw away the finale.

Well done Hardik you turned the match around. Kuddus to our Kanpuriya Kuldeep for giving us those crucial brakes. Overall a great team effort.

Re: The Cricket Thread

2 highlights -

# India have won 22 of 23 completed matches across last 3 ICC white ball events.

# 15 consecutive tosses lost by India, longest steak for a team in men's ODIs. India won 10 of these matches.
