I think Pandya is not a good all-rounder. For me, a test all-rounder should be able to make it to a side based on 1 skill alone. Kallis(batting,) Ashwin(bowling) and Stokes(batting) are some examples of people I'd have in a side based on 1 skill alone.

England lost their way in the last few overs, else they would have managed 500.
Bairstow is simply the best English batsman now.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Got this message in a whatsapp group today, and I agree.

Quote:
Yorkshire is playing Hampshire in the 4 day County game starting today. Pujara gets out for a duck !! All that white ball form means nothing. I think he will be left out of the Tests. Rahul will play at 3 !!

9 dismissals for 100 runs. 6 of those were either bowled or lbw. Pujara's weakness against the incoming ball is coming to the fore. Broad used to target him that way in 2014

Pujara is really struggling. Dale Steyn got him bowled.

I think we should play Rahane at 3, Rahul and Vijay opening.

For Pujara to have any sort of a score, the openers need to have played decently - if they do, then he might just have a chance; else I really do not see him making any sort of impact. I have been a big supporter but I just don't see this working anymore.

We should play KL Rahul at 3, irrespective of his results, lets just give me a longer rope. Else, we should look at Karun Nair or Shreyas Iyer.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Most likely Pujara will get 2 Tests in England to prove himself. If he fails, he'll be dropped! But you never quite know with Virat, he dropped the vice captain in SA & then brought him back for the 3rd test just on the basis on how well he looked in the nets.
What is worrying is M Vijay hasn't had any match practice all these months. He was the drinks boy in the entire IPL, a stint in county cricket would have been helpful instead.

Re: The Cricket Thread

ICC has announced the Future Tours Programme (FTP), The Test Championship is the highlight of this FTP. The nine top-ranked Tests sides will play six bilateral series (3 home, 3 away) against opponents of their choice over 2-year cycles. The inaugural edition is scheduled between July 15, 2019 and April 30, 2021. The top two teams during this period will qualify to play the final which is most likely to be held at the Lord's in June/July 2021. The winning team will be declared as The Test champions.

There are a total of 72 Matches over 27 series. England play the most with 22 matches followed by Australia at 19 and India at 18. Srilanka and Pakistan play the least with 13 matches each. One other interesting point is that it has fifteen 2-match series, eight 3-match series, two 4-match and 5-match series. As expected, there is almost nothing during April-May to accommodate the IPL

Re: The Cricket Thread

#SLvsWI should be associated with "which team plays the worst cricket?"
I never expected WI to give SL so much competition. This series has been rather interesting, with some ugly incidents on the field too.

Re: The Cricket Thread

It's been Yadavs' day today.
U Yadav 4ovrs, 2-21
K Yadav 4ovrs, 5-24
Restricting England to 159 in 20 overs considering their top 2 batsmen together hitting 99 runs in 66 balls on a good batting pitch.
Kuldeep Yadav was simply not picked by the English batsmen.
Surprisingly Bhuvaneshwar bowled 4 ovrs 0-45.
Good start to the tour-Something that Indians are not known for.

We're a very competitive team in limited overs, whatever the conditions.

And it helps that we've play 'warm-up' games against Ireland.

Re: The Cricket Thread

KL Rahul is having a ball out there.
Guy is in serious form. Good for us if he carries this forward to the ODIs and tests as well.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think Rahul is overshadowing others since IPL. It helps that he is good in all 3 forms. Becoming quite a run machine with great strike rate. Virat Kohli has been overdue for a long time now and not sure if he has lost his aggressiveness or he doesnt feel the need.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The month of June has been the warmest & driest in England in the last 100 years! So lets hope these conditions continue.

Absence of Bumrah is a big blow but it gives an opportunity to Umesh Yadav to play a few games. Kuldeep Yadav needs to play in the test matches as the English batsman are all at sea reading him, he'll certainly be more effective than Ashwin & Jadeja! If KL Rahul continues with his form in the ODI's we could see him play at no.3 in the tests as well.
I wonder how Dinesh Karthik must be feeling right now after those heroics a few months back.

After a month or so of being invincible against a fragile Aussie team England had a reality check. I believe the white ball matches will be contested fiercely by both teams.

I think Rahul will open in tests. Dhawan will be dropped. Pujara will surely play the first two tests, irrespective of performances.
I'd say that the best batting lineup is:
1. Vijay
2. Rahul
3. Rahane
4. Kohli
5. Puajara
6. Nair/Pandya
7. Karthik/Saha
8-11: Bowlers

Rahane is a natural opener and sometimes struggles against spin- so I'd have Puajara and him switch spots.

I still think he has a place in the limited overs sides. I think this should be the batting line up for ODIs and T20Is:
1. Dhawan
2. R Sharma
3. Rahul
4. Kohli
5. Dhoni
6. Karthik
7. Pandya
8-11: bowlers.
