Re: The Cricket Thread

This match is as good as gone.

PS: The last successful 100+ chase for us outside Asia was 2003 against Australia !

Stat courtesy BBC Sport: India's highest run chase in England is 174, for their first ever win on English soil back in 1971.

though i am an optimistic, when our seamers can get 7 wickets, i dread to fear how good jimmy, stokes and curran can bowl!

Still not over till we get the last 84 runs (or England gets 5 more wickets before that), day 4 will be a good battle hopefully.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Report on Cricinfo says - "Kohli just refuses to lose the Edgbaston Test!"
And I agree. It's almost as if it's Kohli vs England at least from the batting perspective. What the hell happened to others?

I guess Puraja will come in next match. But who goes out? Vijay, Dhawan, Rahul and Rahane - all have been equally woeful in this match. Rahul it seems has completely forgotten how to play a test match - prodding at balls outside the off stump!!

This match now solely rests on Kohli's shoulder.

Oh yes and I think Pandya should sit out next match in favor of a proper batsman. No point in playing him if he doesn't bowl.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a knock by Kohli followed by a spell by Ishant! Has proven a great game so far. England really need 1 wicket to win, while for India to win Kohli almost needs to see it off.

I don't see how Dhawan would keep his place with his atrocious batting and slip catching. Not that most of us did not call that before but it has become routine the way he gets out in challenging conditions. Vijay & Rahul got good balls, you couldn't do much with those.
Another case is Rahane, I just cannot fathom what's wrong with him? He will usually come up with one good innings in an away series and we seem to forget that he has had a woeful series.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I hope all batsmen will start batting in the second test. I think Rahul should open and should be asked to play his natural game without fear of losing his place.
I agree Pandya is a misfit when proper batsmen are failing and when we have enough bowlers to take advantage of the conditions.
I still think we will win this match.

Rahane got only one test match in South Africa, and he played a terrific innings there on one of the most difficult batting wickets I have ever witnessed. Ok he had a bad game here, but that does not warrant a sacking.

Rahul is getting out chopping the ball to his stumps way too often, needs to slow down a bit. Between Vijay and Dhawan, I will take Vijay any day. Also, Pandya needs to be replaced with Jadeja.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Between Jadeja and Pandya, I'd take the former every weekday and twice on Sunday. He's capable of a game-changing contribution in a test, Pandya isn't.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Test Cricket at its very best. Should be an exciting finish around lunch time.

Surprisingly, after Virat its only Karthik whose looked confident at the crease in his short stay with him making a conscious effort to get the front stride all the way forward forcing the England bowlers to bowl short to him.

Rahane is going through a lean patch since the last 6-7 matches, if this continues Ashwin should be made Vice-Captain.

Everyone is calling for Dhawan's head & rightly so but Vijay should also be put on notice as he's failed to get any decent score in quite a few games now!

Ajinkya Rahane's last ten TEST innings:-
4, 0, 2, 1, 10, 9, 48, 10, 15, 2.

He is becoming a baggage now.

Oops, loose shot from kohli.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Stokes gets his man!

With Kohli's wicket I think this match is gone

I thought it was a chance to make history with a winning chase but looks like this game will toe the line of the past history with India losing.

Edit: Shami goes for a duck.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India very rightly lost the match. This is what happens when you go into a test match with just one decent batsman in the team.

Re: The Cricket Thread

1. DK cannot keep, and is useless with the bat. Pant needs to debut at Lords.

2. Pandya needs to be replaced with Jadeja. Pandya's game awareness and ability to read match situations is pathetic. How can you expose the tailenders to a leg spinner? He was taking singles earlier in the over as if he wanted to finish not out.

3. Dhawan's drop catch of Sam Curran basically proved to be the difference in the end. And he was giggling like a girl after dropping the catch. He needs to be kicked out for this attitude alone.
